Band Notes

Band Sleep Over Last weekend the Friends of the Band held the Annual Band Sleepover. Students from both the Junior and Concert Bands were given the opportunity to participate in the two day event and participated in tutorials and rehearsals that would help them develop their talents and musical abilities. The event also provided students the opportunity to build friendships and enjoy the company of other likeminded musicians. I would like to thank the Friends of the Band Committee for their organisation and also to the parents who willingly gave up their weekend to assist with the running of the event. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the tutors and conductors for nurturing and developing the talents of our students. Your expertise and commitment to our program is greatly appreciated. The weekend was a huge success and that is in no small part, due to the outstanding behaviour and commitment displayed by all of our students who attended. I was very proud of the way that all students participated and made the event so enjoyable, and the end of camp performance was sensational! Well done and thank you. I am sure that next year’s camp will be even bigger and better. Market Place Performance Next Friday the 31st of July, our Concert Band will be the final performance of the Education Week Celebrations in the Wagga Market Place. A note will be sent home with students later this week, informing parents of times and details of the event. Sydney Festival of Music Notes are now overdue for the Festival of Music that is to be held in Sydney on the 8th and 9th of August. Could I please ask that our Concert Band members return their notes to school as soon as possible? If you did not receive a note and your child is attending, please contact me at the school. A final reminder that Junior Band will be rehearsing on Tuesday mornings and Concert Band will be rehearsing every Wednesday morning. Tim Harris, In-school Band Coordinator

CHILD PROTECTION LESSONS YEARS K-6 As part of the Personal Development/Health/Physical Education curriculum all children will participate in Child Protection lessons this term. The Child Protection lessons have been developed by the Department of Education and they are an important priority for schools.

DRUG EDUCATION LESSONS As part of the Personal Development/Health/Physical Education curriculum students will participate in Drug Education lessons. The Drug Education lessons have been developed by the Department of Education and Communities.

If you DO NOT give permission for your child/ren to participate in these lessons please notify your class teacher.

Maths in 4-5 Somme

We greatly enjoy learning activity games in our Maths lessons. In these activities we are: using a dice to create a large number for place value activities, we then place these

numbers in ascending and descending order using a dice to make numbers to multiply, we check our friends’ calculations then use

the inverse operation to write division facts playing ‘Roll and Multiply’, if we correctly multiply the two numbers we place a counter

on that number, we beat the opposing team when we have 3 counters in a row

Thank you A huge thank you to Mr Harris, the Friends of the Band Committee, and the Conservatorium for a great weekend of music.
