after all these invitations and outings, we felt it was about time to gather back at the club for a change. as we arrived there at the end of March, we realised that even here we were going to get spoilt: on the sideboard were platters of cold meat, cheeses, swiss-type bread and homemade cakes, and we soon learned that Margrit Kilchenmann and claudine Maager were treating us to this lovely surprise as they had celebrated their birthdays during the month of March. thank you very much ladies, we do love such tasty surprises!

However, that was not the end of birthday treats as we could celebrate again at the end of april. this time it was agathe trengrove who had just reached a big round number, namely 80! and just look at the awesome cream cake that pick n pay plumstead had donated for the occasion!! after card and gifts had been presented, we could tuck into the open sandwiches that agathe had brought as well as theres’ speciality, a delicious cheese cake – many thanks to

both of you!

as usual, we really enjoyed the time spent together over coffee and yummy eats and we would once again like to encourage all you swiss ladies out there to join us on the last wednesday of every month – you’ll never know what surprise might await you!

I think I can confidently say that we had a great Mother’s Day lunch, very realxed atmosphere, good food and good company. the giggles and laughter from the guests were definetly music to the „kitchen ears“.

Dear Members,

according to the latest crime bulletin, Jsra, there has only been one burglary reported in the past month. we had an extended camping season due to the beautiful weather in May. i was in Jonkershoek last weekend and always enjoy the transition we experience in Jonkershoek with the beautiful autumn colours on the trees and the rest covering the ground. My wife found some edible mushrooms as well.

with winter upon us, our prayers are that we'll have lots of rain, remember Jonkershoek is still beautiful during this season, have a blessed one.

regards

rené bützer and the Jonkershoek team.

PIGGY SHOOT: We had a long-time record attendance for juniors at this year’s Piggy Shoot! Almost a dozen juniors and a dozen ladies, as well as 24 men competed for the ham and sausages on a lovely autumn day at the WCSU range near Atlantis. Best Lady shooter was Margrit Kilchenmann with 49 points (out of 60), the men’s winner was Daniel Siegenthaler (57 – 3x10, 3x9) and best junior Christian Matusik with 50. The outright winner of the Piggy’s Tail Shoot was junior Madison Bützer, who would even have won with her 2nd and 3rd best shots! She also came 2nd in the main Piggy Shoot! Congratulations! We also had 5 shots standing at a 50 metre ‘gong’ or ‘swinger target’ for bragging rights. Juniors were permitted to shoot this event from the bench, and full scores were made by Theo Mahnke, Caitlin and Travis Goode, Rachel, Iris, Christian and Sarah Matusik. It was a truly enjoyable family day, with parents competing against their sons and daughters, and siblings against each other. Every competitor won a ham or sausage, with the lowest scorers earning a pig’s tail as compensation! Swiss Bratwurst, Cervelat and Fleischkaese with rolls and mustard were enjoyed by all. ABSENDEN: On Friday 4 May almost 40 club members and guests attended the annual prize-giving dinner at the club. As has been the case over the last few years, Eric Fraser won most, namely seven of the competitions! Well done! Paul Schweizer gained the Metzgerstich ham and the Wymann Weinstich. Other double champs were Fridolin Lenz (F. Schweizer & Pres. Mettler Cup) and Gert Behrendt (Berner Oberland & Feldstich). The rest of the shoots were won by Fritz Kuhn (Bundesprogramm), Peter Hostettler (Appenzeller), Derek Ohland (Intertown) and Graham Butler won the year-end shoot, the Vier Hürden trophy sponsored by Thomas Henke. SHOOTING RANGES: We have received approval for the remainder of the year at the Navy’s Klawer range, but had to re-apply for permission to use the Military’s Good Hope range at Atlantis. The shoots were cancelled, and we will be advised when our application is approved.

Dear Members, as we slowly approach the winter days, we know that time spent at the club dwindles and the visits to Jonkershoek are few and far in-between. as such, the club opening times have been reduced to 2 evenings per month (the last & first Thursday of the month) – please watch out for those newsflashes to stay in touch with the exciting, cosy evenings as arranged by our “bischof” catering team.the Easter egg hunt in Jonkershoek was onceagain a lovely day enjoyed by both young and old. this year we were very blessed to be spoilt with some lindt eggs and 2 HuGE Easter bunnies which were raffled on the day. Thank you to all involved in making this day a success!the club looked beautiful and food was delicious on Mother’s day. always good to catch up with friends and family in such a serene environment.the committee has already started the background work much needed to ensure that we have a blast on the 28th July and 1 august as we celebrateour National Day. the success of these two days rely very much on the “number of helping hands available”. we trust to have many volunteers– please watch out for the newsflash.
