Dear Parents and Carers,
What a ‘wow’ week we have had. It started on Saturday – although officially the new week
doesn’t start until Sunday, we won’t mind about that!
What an amazing turn out by parents and children for our first ‘Working party’. Despite the
weather being a bit miserable at first, and the total downpour later, everyone worked their
socks off—clearing, sweeping, cutting and drilling. It was one of those ‘OH’ moments when
you are a little over whelmed by the generosity and good spiritedness (if that’s a word) of
everyone who came together to make our school an even better looking place than it already
is. We can only say the biggest THANK YOU to you all. You were all absolutely brilliant!
I have to say one special thank you amongst all the wonderful volunteers to Mr Amos who
scared the life out of me on Wednesday night. Imagine a cold and stormy night...It’s raining
hard and pitch black...You hear banging in the night...What can it be? Is a child locked in the
new building? What has happened? How could they have got locked in? You turn the corner
and there…….hammering away is Mr Amos! - dripping wet, putting together our wooden
storage box! What wonderful dedication to the cause!
Please make sure you take a good look around the school to see the fabulous work that was
done, as sometimes things become a little familiar. If you spot something that you think
needs a little tender loving care please let me know as I am sure we will have another
working party in the future, and we all miss things.
Our Book Week is in full swing today with lots of wonderful costumes. I must say a big thank
you to those who responded so quickly to the plea to man the Book Fair. If you haven't
already visited please take the time to look around—there are some fabulous books available.
The book fair will be open again after school today until 4pm.
Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend and enjoy reading all those lovely new books. Kind regards, Lenia Greenaway
CHRISTMAS CARDS DEADLINE

OPEN MORNING The children have been fantastic this week. On Wednesday we had a large number of visitors come to our first open
morning of the year. The children were beautifully behaved, as always, and many of the prospective parents commented
on the way the children answered their questions enthusiastically and with great detail. Well done to everyone for making
this a really good morning. I think it came across clearly that we are very proud of our school. Thank you to everyone who
helped put this morning together, not least to Mrs Frost in the office who spent a day putting our up-dated prospectus
together. She can now make them in her sleep. Our next Open Morning will be held on Wednesday 19th November.

BUSY BEES
Busy Bees have been enjoying all the exciting activities surrounding book
week this week. We have been thinking about rhyming words and sounds
and have written a wonderful class poem about Autumn together.
We have also been learning about the disciples being friends of Jesus and
thinking about our friends in Busy Bees.
LADYBIRDS
Ladybirds were looking at nursery rhymes this week. We have been reading
and performing our favourite rhymes and talking about our favourite books.
In geography we have been thinking about the weather and the different
seasons and we wrote a lovely poem together about Autumn.
DRAGONFLIES Dragonflies have been preparing for our class collective worship on Diwali
next week. We also did some super story writing that is on display in the
entrance to the library area. We have been learning about time in our
maths lessons and had a fantastic trip to the Surrey Outdoor Learning
Development Centre yesterday where we spent the morning learning
woodland skills and orienteering.

DRAGONFLIES TRIP TO S.O.L.D. CENTRE, DORKING When we arrived we had to be squirrels and we were given 5 nuts to hide in the glade. We then had several other
activities—a scavenger hunt, pretending to be birds of prey using mirrors and we all made a ‘journey stick’ as we explored
the woods. We had to find small sticks to make fairy houses as the flat bottomed dragon had destroyed them! We all had
a really fun day out and learned lots about nature, and about ourselves!
MORNING MILK If your child would like milk next term please let the office know before half term so it can be ordered in advance. Milk for
the rest of the term to Christmas will be £7.35. Cash or cheques payable to “St Peters C of E Infant School” please.

BOOK WEEK 2014
This week we have had ‘Book Week’. The book fair, as I am sure many of you will already know, has been an enormous
success. As I say time and again ‘you can never have too many books’. The children love them. It inspires their love for
reading (or building – as those with the infamous ‘Mine Craft’ book have found, or will find, out! If anyone doesn’t want
their copy any more, I’ll have it! They sold like hot cakes!).
When the book fair was delivered we were lucky enough to have Karen come in from the Travelling Books company to
give the children a little taste of the books on offer and read a story to each of the classes. It is always lovely for others to
come in and share their love for reading with the children too. Nigel Shaw from Oxted Library also visited us today to
share a few stories, rhymes and poems with the children and was our VIP guest for lunch.
LEST WE FORGET…
The children will be bringing home a template of a poppy this week.
We would like all of the children to colour in the poppy and bring it
back to school – if possible with £1 for the British Legion. We will
laminate each poppy and tie it to the front fence at the top of the
school. We hope this will show that we have thought carefully about
those people who died for our country in one of the world wars,
fought for, or are fighting for us in wars across the world. If you have
a relative or friend who died in one of the
World Wars you might like to write their
name in the centre of the poppy to show
that they are not forgotten. We hope to
fill the whole of the front fence with our
poppies.
PARENT CONSULTATIONS
I’m sure you won’t, but don’t forget parent consultations this Tuesday and Wednesday. Please be considerate to those
who are waiting after you by sticking to the allocated time slots. If you need additional time please arrange another
appointment with the class teacher. Thank you.
GOVERNOR’S MAINTENANCE FUND
Many thanks to all parents who have so far supported the Governor’s Maintenance Fund. A letter was sent out in
September and we appreciate the donations already received. Over recent years the Fund has supported the refurbish-
ment of the Busy Bees classroom and the office area and the installation of a new heating system. If you have not yet
replied, and feel that you are able to do so, we would be very grateful if this could be done before half term. A copy of
the letter and form can be found on the school website or, alternatively, please ask for a copy in the school office. If you
have any queries please do not hesitate to contact myself, Mrs Mesher or Miss Greenaway.
Thank you for your continuing support. Linda Weight – Finance Governor.
