A Note from Our President
Good evening members and guests,
I am so excited to have you all here for our evening of "The Movies inQuilts". Please enjoy the popcorn and our feature presentation by AmyWinsor. A special "Thank You" to all the members who have contributed to thewonderful evening we have in front of us.
Vance Quilts R' Us may be a small guild, but we are large in talent. We havemembers who excel in all aspects of quilting, from hand piecing to machine quilt-ing! They are also generous with their time and talents. Members have beengiving back to the community over and over throughout the 23 years of our quilt-ing fellowship.
I don't think there is a better way to spend a Friday evening than meeting, greet-ing, discussing, and sharing with fellow quilters!! Thank you all for coming tomake our evening a huge success.
On with the Show!

IN THE GUILD
Leslie Perry Library was the setting for the founding of theVance Quilts R Us Quilt Guild.
Two strangers, Georgia Darnell and Peggy Stocks, met at the
library looking for books about quilting. This meeting led to
the placement of an ad in the Henderson Daily Dispatch
seeking women who want to learn about quilting.
Twenty women answered the ad and the first meeting was
held in October 1990. Meetings were held the 2nd and 3rd
Mondays of each month at the Senior Center on Garnett
Street.
During the early days, quilting techniques were taught byPeggy Stocks and Priscilla Hair using the book Quilts! Quilts!
Quilts!!! by Diana Leone. Peggy Stocks taught hand piecing
and Priscilla Hair taught machine piecing. Georgia Darnell
served as the President, providing organization to the early
days.
With a growing membership, teaching transitioned to dem-
onstrations and guest speakers and presentations.
A significant project and contribution to the Vance County
Senior Center is the Flower thro the Window quilt which
hangs in the Dining Room of the center. The quilt is a com-
pilation of blocks made by guild members and hand-quiltedby the membership also.
During our 23 years, the Guild has had a proud history of
charity work. Regularly visiting the Ronald McDonald House
to give the children quilts, making pillow quilts for abused
women, and providing quilts, pillow cases, and tote bags to
various charities. Today, the guild holds a monthly charity
workshop to focus on community outreach projects.
Dues started at $1.00 per month and now are $25.00 annu-
ally. Our memberships has grown to 42 with four of these
members being charter members of the association: Georgia Darnell
Janelle Jackson
Betty Jo Pernell
Peggy Stocks
Our membership remains strong with talented quilters visiting
and joining each month.
We invite youto join theVance Quilts R Us
Guild for itsmeetings on the
2nd Monday of eachmonth in the
Fellowship Hallof the
First Presbyterian Church,Henderson.
