What do you do when you fear that your nation is not just backslidden but pretty much apostate? What do you do when the divorce rate is so high that lasting marriages are almost in the minority? What do you do when your own Prime Minister declares that the nation is ‘sick?’ Prayer would be a good idea, right? Well, the ladies of Deeper Life Bible Church and those invited from other churches who held a seven hour vigil on the night of Friday 9 th September 2011 seem to think so. Inspired by the praying women of the Bible, women such as Hannah who waited on God and got results, women of all ages gathered from 10pm to 5am to stand in the gap and intercede for our nation. They prayed for single parents, young people, marriage, and the salvation of the people of Merseyside and the nation at large, among many other things. And of course there was a lot of singing and worship. In his short exhortation titled “The Destiny Changing Prayer”, Pastor Ayo challenged the over 100 ladies gathered for the Spirited-Powered Ladies Prayer Night to see themselves as the destiny shapers of the hour. He said- ‘The hour of prayer ahead of you can translate into a defining moment in retrospect because of the incredible things that happen when women pray. I am convinced that the next pages of history may well be written as God responds to this and similar prayer summits.’ At the end of the night, the ladies were challenged to continue praying. Who knows, we might just begin to see a move of God across our land that will transform or nation and our communities for the better! This weakness affects not only the matter of our request but also the manner of it: “for we know not what we should pray for as we ought”. The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities in the word (which contains many promises); in our hearts as the Spirit of grace and of supplications; by praying through us; and by channeling our prayer according to the will of God. The Hope of Soul-winners in Preaching Ephesians 6:18-20; Colossians 1:27-29; Romans 1:16; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15,16; Luke 24:47-49; Psalm 126:5,6 Although some will not listen to us when we preach the gospel, we must keep at it for the sake of those who will. When we live a prayerful life our soul winning efforts will be powerful and more productive. Our preaching is made more effective when we tarry and get the power prior to preaching. As we sow the seed of the gospel with the tears of travailing prayer the Lord will give us the harvest of souls. The Harvest of Souls in Power Ephesians 6:10,12,18; Isaiah 49:24,25; Matthew 12:29; Luke 10:17,19; Acts 1:8; 4:31-33; Romans 15:18,19; 1 Corinthians 4:20; 1 Thessalonians 1:5,9 The purpose of the power of the Holy Spirit is to make evangelism more effective and enable us to win souls. The enemy is a strong man and if we are to take souls out of his captivity we cannot be powerless. The anointing of the Holy Spirit is essential if we are to confront the forces of darkness, ransack their domain and spoil the kingdom of darkness. The church is mandated to engage in power evangelism, winning souls with signs following.

Deeperlife Ladies Prayer Night What do you do when you witness the kind of riots that our nation has witnessed recently? Friendship

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24).

Have you ever heard of the statements, “Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are,” and “birds of the same feather flock together”? I’m sure at some point in your life, such statements have registered in your ears. Having met my best friend ‘Jesus Christ’, I fully comprehend the logic behind these statements. We all have mutual attributes with the people we consider our friends regardless of our age, gender and race. So allow me to ask you this simple question: what qualities do your friends possess? And what does this say about you?

Jesus; A faithful friend Proverbs 18:24, talks about a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Jesus is that friend that sticks closer than a brother; He is the one that loved you so much that He died on the cross for your sins. John 15:13 says “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Who else could lay down their life for you? Jesus is the perfect example of a faithful, loyal and loving friend. This is why when it comes to your relationship with God, remaining faithful is NOT an option but a priority, and the process of choosing friends is not one to be over-looked. Your friends should truly love and fear God. Simple! You cannot afford to have friends that offend God in anyway shape or form, because loyalty to God is everything. Not every person that puts in an application to be your friend should be accepted, because the company that you keep could make or mar your relationship with God. In Hebrews 13:5 the bible tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us”. Is this not the definition of a faithful and loyal friend? So I encourage you to start looking for friends that have similar qualities to Christ. Jesus is the perfect example of what a true friend should be like, and if your friends fail to reach this standard then, politely show them the door and start praying for Christ-like friends.

A divine checklist

☐Do you share Jesus Christ as a mutual friend with your friends? They must be born again! ☐Are your friend’s practicing Christians? We all know that going to church does not make us Christians, so make sure that your friends carry their cross every single day. ☐Can you depend on your friends to pray with you? ☐Do they help you grow spiritually? We all know it’s easier to pull someone down than it is to pull them up. So make sure the friends you keep pull you up. ☐Galatians 5:22 – Do they possess the fruit of the spirit?

Benefits of Christ-like friends The main benefits of having Christ-like friends include mutual agreement, encouragement and growth in christlikeness. These benefits will provide you with an incentive to stay in obedience, love and commitment to God. After choosing our ‘Christ-like’ friends we must not neglect the great commission, therefore we must also work on being friendly to unbelievers with the intention of winning them for the Kingdom of God.

The Importance of Communication

According to the Oxford English Reference Dictionary, the word ‘communicate’ means to “transmit or pass on by speaking or writing,” and communication is “the art of imparting.”

Looking at everyday life we see the great importance and the necessity of communication. In Genesis 11 we saw its importance when God stopped the construction of the tower of Babel by disabling communication.

In modern times, communication goes beyond the transmission of information from person to person, and is extended to electronic equipment. Our quality of life is enhanced by the communication between our sky box and our television, or our refrigerator and the electronic wall socket; but our lives would be endangered if our car brakes failed to communicate with our car engine. As a formula 1 sports fan, communication between the driver and his engineers can either win or lose the race e.g. the engineers putting on the wrong set of tyres which could either slow down the car or lead to an accident.

Communication in any relationship is equally important. As with electrical gadgets, which break down if communication is broken, relationships too will breakdown if there is a lack of communication, or if there is improper communication.

To communicate effectively both parties must first of all speak the same language and they must speak this language clearly. If one party isn’t clear, this easily leads to conflict. For example, in the Korean language the word ‘porridge’ and the word ‘die’ have the same pronunciation, so you can just imagine the possibilities with regards to a misunderstanding occurring at the breakfast table.

Another important thing about communication is the need for honesty and sensitivity. Hiding things can cause unnecessary harm, while leaking secrets can also be highly detrimental to trust.

Communication is an art, therefore it is not only limited to just speaking and writing, it includes our posture, emotions, actions and more. Like an art it needs practice to be perfected. When the art of communication is performed beautifully it makes any relationship wonderful, be it parent-child, friend-friend, husband-wife, and most importantly God-adopted sons.

Do you know? Experts tell us that when it comes to communication, words only account for 7% of the overall message. The tone of voice with which those words are said account for 38% of the overall message; and body language accounts for 55% of the overall message.

For those who were not around, the Lodge Lane Lunch took place on Sunday 4th September 2011. The idea for the Lunch was born on January 1st 2011. Back then, what turned out to be a great success was only a passing comment, a nonstarter, a nice but unrealistic idea. But God had other plans.

In those few short months we made plans, got funding, found a location and the Lodge Lane Lunch became both a reality and a testimony. The vision for the event was to bring local people from the community together, have fun and provide people with an opportunity to engage with local groups, including the church.

Under the sunny blue sky, people from different generations came together to eat, chat, play and just get to know each other. Feedback from the event was very positive and reached an exciting climax when a satisfied attendant phoned in to the Roger Philips show on BBC Radio Merseyside and praised the event. He was joined by many others in his commendation of the food provided by Kebabish Original, Rehoboth Food Store and of course the DCLM project itself. In addition to food, people enjoyed the friendly and warm atmosphere that has led to many requests to make the event an annual programme.

We thank God for the divine favour, faith, fervent prayer and renewed strength that was required to make the event a success. The DCLM Project has lit a fire in the community and we now have both an opportunity and a responsibility to ensure that it burns more brightly in time to come.

Key facts you may not have known about the Lodge Lane Lunch

•At 3 p.m. there were about 400 people at the event.

•Despite the current period of economic recession, we were able to raise £1, 370 to fund the event.

•There was heavy rain the night before the event but uninterrupted blue skies throughout the day. Rain began to fall after everyone had left and we were packing away the last tables and chairs.

•Some of the people who came to the Lodge Lane Lunch have since attended Youth group and the Y Course

We also received some very good entries from Faith Zabila and Glory Imahia.

The challenge this month is to study 2 Timothy Chapter 2 as there will be a live quiz on Sunday 23 October during Sunday school. The names of the members of the winning team will be published in next month’s newsletter.

Last month we asked you to get creative and write a poem about God that incorporated colours. We received some very good entries, but the winner is Jesus’ Red Blood by Deborah Nquot:

Still, silent and calm. Hanging from a wooden tree He died to save from sin; he died for you and me. How red the blood that dripped from his skin So pure and holy, it’s free from sin. His blood bright red, so red it draws a shark, Mans blood is not bright, but you see it is dark. Pink, orange, yellow and gold The power of God is heavy to hold. Purple, black, brown, and green The darkest colours you’ve ever seen. Reminding me of all the old times Just thinking of the colour of limes Still, silent and calm. Hanging from a wooden tree He died to save from sin; he died for you and me. How red the blood that dripped from his skin So pure and holy, it’s free from sin.

Image, Beauty and Self-Worth – What has God got to say It's super-fun being a Lady! Amazingly, it's also stupidly expensive and kind of unbelievable to find out how much ladies spend each year to make themselves beautiful. Research revealed that women in the USA spend an average of $12,000 annually on beauty products and grooming, etc. In an article titled "Why Vanity Keeps Us Poor," the Siren Magazine, reported that the cosmetic and toiletries industry is now big business worldwide and is worth $45 to $66 billion each year. A poll of 3000 women, conducted by GE Money, revealed that they make an average of 301 shopping trips per year, lasting a total of 399 hours and 46 minutes. Women also dedicate 90 trips a year to keeping up their appearance: shopping for clothes 30 times, shoes 15 times, accessories 18 times and toiletries 27 times. In a 2010 edition of the Daily Mail, the newspaper reported that the average woman spends £9,000 on make-up in her lifetime.

Some ladies spend almost the cost of a car each year to keep themselves “beautiful”. The question is – What has God got to say about a woman’s image and beauty? In the Bible, I Peter 3: 3, 4 explains that true feminine beauty is not dependent on the outward adorning of expensive jewellery and fashionable clothes but resides in outward modesty, inner loveliness and the enduring charm of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. “Meek” implies a gentle and unassuming disposition that manifests itself in a loving concern for others, while “Quiet” refers to a disposition that is not boisterous. This reveals very clearly that true beauty, from God’s perspective, is a matter of character and not a matter of decoration. The truth is- the beauty of holiness needs no adorning!

For a Christian woman, beauty cannot be bought; it is not something that is obtainable from a plastic surgeon or purchased where the latest styles are sold, neither is it tied to a perfect figure. Rather, it is found in the hidden woman of the heart, as stated in 1 Peter. Perhaps this is why many women still do not find fulfilment no matter how much they spend on image and beauty. The state of perfect beauty can only be realised through the grace that comes with new life in Jesus Christ. It can be realised only through the work of Christ in the heart of a woman.
