Inspiring our Teachers!A Stunning Display!

Our facilitators were welcomed back after their summer break with a week long Faculty Development Program designed to help them grow professionally and to keep them inspired with best practices from across the world. Our facilitators enjoyed sessions in their respective Wings that focussed on strategies to foster collaboration and innovation in our classrooms. Our PYP facilitators attended sessions such as 'Making Thinking Visible' and 'Approaches to Teaching', that helped them revisit the core pedagogical beliefs and practices around which the IB curriculum revolves. Our teachers in the Secondary Wing too had sessions on Metacognition and maximising the use of tech tools in the classroom, among other sessions. Meanwhile, our DP Facilitators revisited IBDP Standards and Practices to reect on how closely they align with our practices. The FDP certainly helped our facilitators look at learning and teaching anew and equipped them with a sharper set of tools, ideas and concepts to make the rest of the academic year more innovative!

A delegation of eight U.S. Universities visited DRS International School, Hyderabad on the 13th of April, 2018, as part of an interactive counseling workshop conducted by the school's University Placement Cell in conjunction with KIC UnivAssist. Saint Anselm College, Earlham College and Full Sail University. The workshop, titled, 'Higher Educat ion Landscape and Emerging Careers ' helped students evaluate two very dening questions- 'where' and 'what' to study. The university representatives shared insights about global mobility trends and looked at the strengths of different systems. In addition, the delegates shed light on the changing world of careers focuss ing on the increasing 'convergence' across subjects and how careers would be like in the future.

Our School Behavioural Counselor Ms Sangeetha and Assistant Coordinator Ms Rekha, attended the Regional Summit of School Principals on 'Dealing with Fa i l u re s – Deve lop ing Resilience in School Children' organized jointly by ICTRC and Foster Billabong High International School on the 27th of June, 2018.

The IB Diploma Programme is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education which requires continuous support and understanding between the teachers and parents. To start the two year journey, the IBDP staff conducted an orientation session on the 23rd June 2018.The orientation was facilitated by the staff members to set expectations as well to address a number of questions the parents had in mind on day one of the Diploma Programme.

Our little explorers of Grade II investigated nouns around the campus and enhanced their communication skills as part of the paperless week celebrations. They learnt Math concepts using their interactive smartboards. As a part of their Inquiry, they explored their favorite food through presentations and also made a visit to the school cafeteria and cold storage where they interacted with the

They explored about the different types of diseases through videos and also saw videos on health and hygiene to learn to protect themselves from diseases. They also enjoyed a unique nature walk to explore the microbes that cause diseases in plants using a magnifying glass.

Students of Grade V marked the week in style, beginning with an exciting activity on learning styles. Students were asked to close their eyes and visualize the scenario of smoke in the movie theater while watching an i n t e r e s t i n g m o v i e . There’s no respite from the summer heat like a getaway trip to a hill-station. Our students of Grades IV- VI made the most of their summer break by heading off to Coorg, ‘the land of a million hills’, for an adventure-lled trip this summer. A stay at the campsite meant students experienced the excitement and thrill of living in tents in the outdoors, experiencing the elements of nature rst-hand.

The highlights of the adventure trip included long leisurely morning nature walks, team-building activities, trekking, splashing about at the waterfall and magical campres at night at the campsite. Students also visited the Dubare Elephant Camp where they fed elephants and even bathed and played with a baby elephant, all of which were experiences which they truly cherished. The KRS Brindavan Garden too, was a breath of fresh air. The famous bird sanctuary and the majestic Chamundi hills also made for scenic tours.

The trip was also a historical treat, with sites like the culture-rich Golden Namdroling Monastery, the historic city of Sri Rangapatna and the grand Mysore palace inspiring our students to travel back in time. The visit to St. Philomena's Church and the famous Rail Museum were also memorable visits. The trip ended on a high note with a thrilling afternoon at Wonder La, one of the best amusement parks in India!

DRS International School rmly believes that learning is for all. As part of this larger goal, the school conducted a Training Program for our Support Staff in Spoken English and etiquette. The main aim and objective of this four day session was to educate our support staff by developing their speaking skills and communicative English. Our Liaison Ofcer, Mr. V. K. Aaron Levis and Mrs. S. Shailaja, our Learning Support Specialist helped them to learn the basics of speaking English. In these classes our non-teaching staff learned to greet people, basic etiquettes, introduce themselves, phrases in terms of contextual conversation and the usage of pleasantries in daily contexts.

Every year, the International Council on Monuments and Sites, in conjunction with the UNESCO celebrates World Heritage Day on the 18th of April. The secondary school celebrated World Heritage Day at DRS International School with a special morning assembly. The assembly was hosted by Grade X, who, used a poster presentation to highlight the need for people and communities across the world to recognize the rich role of our cultural heritage, including historical sites and monuments play in shaping our sense of collective identity and history. The posters featured some of our most loved heritage sites and encouraged students to deepen their understanding of the signicance of these sites. The assembly also emphasized on the need to acknowledge our collective ownership and responsibility for maintaining and protecting these invaluable heritage sites and monuments. Our students walked away from the assembly with a sense of renewed pride in our country's heritage, as well as a sense of determination to preserve their richness and glory.

Communicating under pressure isn't easy! Our residential students of Grade VIII proved their mettle in a fun session designed to challenge their communication ski l ls. The session had our students work as teams to build and replicate ident ical block models to compete against each other. The reection session that followed the activity, saw students reect on how the activity helped them communicate effectively.

Our amazing parent community took some time out to be a part of their children's lives at school through the Parent Involvement Activity held recently. Parents were assigned to groups to work their way through activity stations set up in corners around the school. While activities like thread-painting brought out the creative sides of our parents, games such as 'Live Chess', 'Skip the Box' and 'Treasure Chest Matching' challenged parents and children to work together and tap into their competitive sides. Without doubt, the highlight of the day was the 'Showstopper' segment, a platform for parents and children to showcase their talent together. Dancing, singing and a dash of theatre put the spotlight on our parent community's hidden talents and left both students and teachers alike amazed by their involvement.
