NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES.

By Samantha S.

• The newspaper was designed to be read in 20 minutes.

• The features section contains a mix of articles on travel, homes, style, health and so on, as well as extensive arts coverage and entertainment listings.

• In its first five years, it achieved a readership of over 1 million daily readers, making it the UK's fourth largest daily newspaper.

Officially has around 3.5m readers.

Page 3: Newspapers and magazines pp2

METRO• Cost- £2,536

• Size- 10x2

• I chose to put the advert at the bottom of a page because generally this is the last thing a person will read before changing the page.

• This newspaper would also be good for my documentary because a lot of people pick it up as its free newspaper.

• It’s given out in undergrounds so a different variety of people will pick it up.

• Kerrang! is a rock music magazine published by Bauer Consumer Media in the United Kingdom.

• The magazine's name is onomatopoeic and refers to the sound made when playing a

power chord on an electric guitar.

• Kerrang’s genre of music is scremo/rock.

• There target audience is for 16-36 years.

Front cover of a man getting tattooed shows interest in tattoos.

KERRANG • Cost- £9,092

• I chose this magazine to put my double page spread of my documentary on because Kerrang is about musicians who generally have tattoos which links to my documentary topic.

• The magazine is targeted at people who areinterested in rock/punk/grunge and indie music

who are attracted to tattoos.

Heat and Kerrang Magazine.

-I never chose heat because it is more of a gossip and lifestyle magazine.

-I chose to put my documentary double page spread in kerrang because the target audience is 16-36 years old which is generally the age people are deciding to get tattoos.

Channel 4

• Channel 4 is a British public-service television broadcaster.

• It is a "publisher-broadcaster", meaning that it commissions or "buys" all of its programming from companies independent of itself, and was the first broadcaster in the United Kingdom to do so on any significant scale.

• Viewers turn to Channel 4 both to be entertained and educated with ABC1 16-44s rating Channel 4 as the best terrestrial channel for documentaries, original and best reality TV and mould breaking comedy.

CHANNEL 4 ADVERT.Typography is in big bold font so that the advert is eye catching.

Logo of chosen channel

An eye catching image in the background which connects to the title to show visually what the program in about.

Details of the name of the program and time at the bottom

Channel 4 use a continuous theme to put their headings in front of white rectangles.

NEWSPAPER ADVERT.

They use volume symbols in the heading which is a good idea because they are advertising a phone.

Logo for the makers of the phone put on the bottom right because normally this is the last thing a person will read so that they will remember who the phone is by.

They use the colour grey for the background so that the phone stands out and I would like to use this technique in my advert.

Picture of the product they are advertising right in the center of the advert.

NEWSPAPER ADVERT.

The picture of a bed in the middle of a field shows that the subject is not normal. Also they used a sheep because of the idea to count sheep to fall asleep and the documentary is about Insomnia.

Title in bold of the name of the series so it’s the first thing the reader will see. I also includes the title of documentary with also the time, date and channel to inform them.

Channel logo

I like how they put the title, time, date and channel in front of large rectangles and I would like to use this in my own advert.

NEWSPAPER ADVERT.

A rhetorical question in big bold letters to stand out and get the reader thinking and it has also been placed on the left top corner because generally that is the first thing someone will read.

Also in bold letters but in slightly smaller letters states the name, date and time.

Image is taken from a low angle to show his power, also the fact that he is holding a gun shows he is in control.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

A whole page used for a picture of who the article is about.

Title shown at the top of the page so the reader reads it before anything else.

Sub title used to give a brief description about the article.

The layout of the double page spread is that the image is on the left and the article is on the right.

The background of the image is white so the band stand out as they are wearing black.

Page 13: Newspapers and magazines pp2

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Title uses alliteration and rhetorical question to get the reader involved.

Image of who the article is about. One member is highlighted more as the other members are faded in the back.

Page number put on the top left corner.

The layout has the image on the left and the article on the right. I would like to use this for my double page spread because I like how the image continues onto the right page.

They have used the background to be the colour white so the one member stands out even more.

Page 14: Newspapers and magazines pp2

DOUBLE PAGE SPREADThe title style is cut outs of letters from magazines which relates to the article because it is in a magazine.

The background is white so that the reader focuses on the text and image.

I like how the title is a quote that Lily Allen said and I would like to use this in my double page spread.

I like how they have put Lily Allen on the right page as if they are trying to say she is right in what she is saying in the title. I also like how she is looking directly into the camera showing she is demanding attention.

The layout is clear and easy to the eye. I like how the text is on the bottom of the page as its easy to read.

Page 15: Newspapers and magazines pp2

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD In the title I like how they have highlighted the word rock to captivate the reader into thinking the article is fun to read.

I like how they have kept a similar colour scheme to the DVD cover and I would like to do this with my newspaper advert and double page spread.

You can tell that this magazine is targeted at a young age group because there are many photos.

The language used is very chatty and friendly “hello campers!” shows they want to make the reader feel welcome.

This image dominates the article as they want to attract attencion as the Jonas Brothers are extremely popular.

Page number on the bottom left or right of each page.

Page 16: Newspapers and magazines pp2

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

The image is used mostly as the whole background of the article. Also the article is mostly focused on the picture.

The colours used are attractive because the yellow is used to represent the sun which reflects to the woman wearing sun glasses while the blue represents the sky.

The title is in italic font to show that the article is quite a feminine topic.

There is hardly any text which shows they want to focus more on the image.

Page number near to the center of the page.

The lighting of the page is coming from the top right of the page as if the yellow colouring is a sun.
