NEWTON FAULKNER

Newton Faulkner is known for his unique style of guitar playing where he taps and hits his guitar's body. He first emerged in 2007. He graduated from Guildford Academy of Contemporary Music, the then-22-year old kid from Surrey had a million-selling, Number One hit with his debut album Hand Built By Robots. Singles, Dream Catch Me and I Need Something were the festival sound of 2007 and 2008.Other songs came into life on a studio on a boat in the Thames, and – in the case of the gripping Longshot – in a house outside Leeds. And yet more were worked, then reworked, at the series of pop-up gigs which would take place in houses, schools and village halls.

ABOUT NEWTON FAULKNER

Faulkner made appearances in 2006 on BBC Radio 1 and he secured a Publishing deal with Peermusic UK who asked the Independent on Sunday to tell its readers to "watch this face". Faulkner performed at the 2006 South by South West music festival and at Guilfest 2007.In 2007 Faulkner debut studio album Hand Built By Robots was certified double platinum in the United Kingdom. Hand Built By Robots made No.1 in the UK Album Chart in August 2007. He released three singles from the album, “Dream Catch Me", “I Need Something" and “Teardrop".Faulkner released his second studio album, Rebuilt By Humans in 2009 which made Number 3 UK Albums Chart. On a video blog streamed live from Newton Faulkner's website on 22 June 2009, he stated that the new album would be called Rebuilt By Humans. The reason for this was that in December 2008, Faulkner slipped on some ice and badly injured his wrist, into which doctors fitted a metal plate. He then said that effectively, he had "been put back together again by humans”.He has played in venues including the 02, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight Festival and T in the Park.

MUSIC CAREER

He signed with Sony BMG records and in July 2007 he released his début album Hand Built By Robots. Sony BMG Music Entertainment began as the result of a 50–50 joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment and Bertelsmann Music Group, completed on March 4th 2004. It is one of the Big Four music companies, and includes ownership and distribution of recording labels such as Arista Records, Columbia Records, Epic Records, J Records, Jive Records, RCA Victor Records, RCA Records, Legacy Recordings, Sonic Wave America, and others. The merger affected all Sony Music and Bertelsmann Music Group companies worldwide except for Japan, where it was felt that it would reduce competition in that country’s music industry significantly.
