School Mission and Vision
We will empower all learners to be self-motivated, internationally-minded participants in a global society.
All About Me…..I am married with three children. My
husband’s name is Jason and my three kiddos are Ashton 19, Chance 12, and Lizzie 5.
I graduated from UNT in 1999. I love Denton and teaching at an IB school.More information is on the bulletin board in
the hall way.
What is IB?In international education we are guided
by 3 level of relationships:How human beings relate to each
otherHow they relate to a cultureHow they relate to their shared
humanity.
“It is making sense of these relationships, the personal, the cultural and the universal, that is the challenge to international education.”
-George Walker, 2003

The Learner Profile
AttitudesThe attitudes
are what we want the
students to feel in order to become
more like the student profile.
ActionHow do we want the students to act?
Programme of Inquiry
The programme of inquiry (POI), together with the
Denton I.S.D.’s subject-based scope and sequence, provides
a comprehensive, well-balanced curriculum.
Key ConceptsForm: What is it like?Function: How does it work?Causation: Why is it like it is?Change: How is it changing?Connection: How is it connected to other
things?Perspective: What are the points of view?Reflection: How do we know?Responsibility: What is our responsibility?
Transdisciplinary SkillsWhat transdisciplinary skills
do we want the students to possess?

“Above all, in summary, a PYP classroom is an
intelligent place. It is a place where the
easy option is seldom sought and where expectations are
high. It is an environment in which
learning knows no limits.”
Making the PYP Happen, 2007

Parents /volunteers must have a background check to accompany their child on a field trip – should do so ahead of time, as it can take awhile to go through
Classroom Management For classroom management, I will be using the stick system,
students will get 5 sticks on Monday. Sticks will be taken from them for breaking rules, that will be established on the first day of school, not following the procedures discussed.
Loosing a stick mean you will walk the track for 5 minutes of recess.
If all five sticks are lost in a week, then there will be a conference with the student and an action plan developed, parents will be called if needed.
Discipline is handled on a individual basis, so everything won’t look exactly the same.
Students will be asked to write a reflection of what happened.
SnacksStudents will be allowed to have a healthy snack after
special areas(granola, yogurt, fruit etc.).We ask that students not bring chips, candy or sodas. We
also do not allow students to share snacks unless it is for the whole class.
We have healthy snacks available for $.5o if your child would like to purchase one here.
If you would like to donate a class snack that would be great. Sometimes students forget their money and/or snack and I love to have back up for them.
Homework/ GradingBe Organized Binder will come home nightly,
containing all homework.
Reading Homework will be nightly. Math homework will be limited, problem
solving will be our focus. Computation practice will come home on a as needed basis.
