1st Law of Motion

• An object will maintain its state of motion unless an outside force acts upon it.

• The only way to cause acceleration is with an outside force

• The “law of inertia”

• The energizer bunny law

2nd Law of Motion

• Force= Mass Times Acceleration (f=ma)

• Allows you to calculate force based on mass of object and how quickly (or slowly) it accelerates

• Mass (kg) times Acceleration (m/s/s) gets you units of “kg m/s/s” (which defines a Newton)

3rd law of motion

• Forces come in pairs that are equal and opposite.

• You can’t push something without it pushing you back

• Forces NEVER act alone!
