From the President
As Posted in AzFRW Winter Newsletter
Editor’s Note: President Bonnie submitted this for inclusion in the AzFRW Winter meeting information. As not all members will be attending the meeting, she is posting for all here.
Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “The great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.” Arrowhead Republican Women continue to stand for the conservative principles and objectives of the Republican Party and move to promote an informed electorate through political education. We are blessed to have several Arizona elected officials as members and associates. Not only do they attend our meetings when they are not in session, when we had a scheduled speaker cancel at the last moment, they kindly offered to take his place and talk about the current bills and legislation in our state. Our members were overwhelmed by the information with which they left that afternoon. Additionally, our members were eager to have an update regarding the current state of our public education controversy. We were delighted that Superintendent of Public Instruction and ARW member, Diane Douglas, attended a meeting to discuss her point of view.
In our efforts to raise awareness of combat veterans in need, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, in full regalia, spoke of their volunteer organization of veterans helping veterans. We continue to support My Nail Friends, a group of women who polish the nails of those in retirement homes. To touch a hand is to touch a heart. We continue to collect black and white crew socks for our troops and for the homeless veterans who gather each year in February at the Arizona Stand Down. Our members say that volunteering at the Stand Down is the most heartwarming and gratifying experience they’ve ever had.
Our membership theme for 2016 is an updated theme of 2015’s “Plant Yourself in ARW,” “Refresh, Renew, and Replant Yourself in ARW,” to keep in touch with members who have not renewed but need a bit of persuasion. Our February membership tea will be hosted by new member, Gherrie Rhoutzhan. Another eager Arrowhead member! Our December luncheon/meeting was Bling Bingo. Several guests attended and were so delighted by the afternoon, they joined. Happy guests, eager new members.
Get ready for Arrowhead's fundraiser on March 19th, a fun filled, fabulous fashion show featuring Dillard's fashions. The theme is "Desert Jewels," a tribute to our wonderful and hardworking members, the 'jewels' of our Republican Party. A delectable luncheon, themed baskets, music, and a guest performer who will leave you laughing. Please join us. Tickets will be available after January 13th.
On June 11th, Arrowhead will host a Candidates’ Forum. Thus far, we have commitments from approximately thirty candidates. A large number of attendees is expected. Arrowhead is certainly moving in the RIGHT direction.
From the First Vice President
Pretend to Be Christians – Wear A Cross Before Committing Terror
In a twisted new set of guidelines, leaders with the Islamic State terrorist
group are urging its followers in the West to be Christians before
committing lone wolf terrorist attacks. Our Brothers in the West need to
know some important things about safety in order to ensure success in
their mission.
A 58 page terror manual titled “Safety and Security Guidelines for Lone Wolf Attacks”
instructs its followers to trim their beards, wear Western-style cloths, aftershave and
pretend to be Christian by wearing cross necklaces in order to not arouse suspicion.
After revealing some of the “best places” to carry out terror attacks—such as
nightclubs—the guide provides a few disturbing tips for future jihadists. Avoid wearing
Islamic tunics, using teeth cleaning twigs, and having a booklet of prayers and
devotional acts with you. It is permissible for you to wear a necklace showing a
Christian cross. As you know, Christians, or even atheist Westerners with Christian
backgrounds, wear crosses. But don’t wear a cross if you have a Muslim name on your
passport as that may look suspicious.
This new manual, which was released on ISIS linked Twitter accounts and social media
sites, is the latest in a series of twisted English-language propaganda, used to recruit
more lone wolf attacks.
This should comfort you. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the United
States relies on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to make first
selections about who has the potential to come to America, as well as carry out the pre-
screening process. Americans should be encouraged to question this opaque system. I
think it is time for the United States to get out of the United Nations. It costs us too much
and they do us more harm than good!

Ladies, I am enjoying attending your luncheon meetings
and getting acquainted with more of you each time. You
are an active and supportive group – so important to the
success of the Federation. Your Membership Tea is fast
approaching and I look forward to attending this annual
event. I encourage each of you to try to bring a guest. It is such a nice way for like-
minded women t to become acquainted with other members and learn more about the
Club and its activities.
Once more, I encourage you to attend the Winter State Meeting to be held the week
end of February 25th in Tempe. Arrowhead is one of the few clubs in the state that
actually pays for members to attend and participate. There are numerous workshops
that are of benefit to our members.

From America’s Mighty Warrior Founder, Debbie Lee
The History Channel did a documentary on my son, Marc Lee, this month. It is called "Live to Tell" and they did an amazing job. If you missed it, you can watch it by going to the History Channel and watch the episode from Jan 10th.
I saw the successes made by our troops in Ramadi on my first trip in 2008 and then again in 2010 when I returned to Iraq. The Iraqis told me how grateful they were to have their city back. An Iraqi general told me that his people would never forget what the American people have done for them, and that they will “tell our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren and for generations to come what America has done. There is American blood poured out on our soil.”
Marc’s wisdom was revealed in his last letter home. In it, he predicted that it would take “longer than most think” to get security in Iraq, but that “we will get Iraq to stand on its own feet.”
To see the evil black Islamic State flag torn down over the government buildings in Ramadi last week brought justice and hope to my heart. It reminds us that good does triumph over evil. To learn that the Iraqis are taking the fight to the enemy shows our success of the training our troops are conducting.
I would never want another mother to have to experience the loss of a child in combat, but we are facing an evil and destructive enemy. They must be stopped before more Americans experience the loss of the innocent life in America of their son, daughter, husband, wife, mother or father.
Marc ended his last letter home with some thoughts on his mission and what American means.
“What I do over here is only a small part of what keeps our country great,” he wrote. “I think the truth to our greatness is each other. Purity, morals and kindness passed down to each generation through example. So to all my family and friends, do me a favor and pass on the kindness, the love, the precious gift of human life to each other so that when your children come into contact with a great conflict that we are now faced with here in Iraq, that they are people of humanity, of pure motives, of compassion.”
What a contrast to the way the enemy thinks. While we celebrate the victory of Iraq and coalition forces over the Islamic State in Ramadi, we must never forget the cost of our freedom and our troops who pay that price. Many, like my son Marc, made the ultimate sacrifice.

ICE – In Case of Emergency
In an emergency situation, when those you love are not with you,
or you’re suddenly unable to speak for yourself,
emergency personnel will see your cell phone and wonder
WHAT number do I call??
You can help them by listing your Emergency contacts in your phone
with “ICE” before the name – like ICE John Smith.
If you have multiple potential contacts and a certain order, try
ICE1 John Smith, ICE2 Suzy Smith, ICE3 Harold Jones.
(meaning – ICE1 your-family/friend’s-name)
This will help emergency personnel know WHO to call for YOU!
Thank you, Jan Martinson, for this very important safety idea!
