Purpose of the SHARP Grant Funding opportunity
By 2020, it is projected that there will be more than 12,000 acute and community hospital beds in Singapore. The combination of a rapidly ageing population and the rise of chronic disease will also mean a higher demand for healthcare services. To meet this growing demand with dwindling manpower resources, assistive and robotics technologies will play an increasingly crucial role in public healthcare institutions.
The SG Health Assistive and Robotics Programme (SHARP) Grant is organised by MOH’s Smart Systems Programme Office (SSPO), administered by National Health Innovation Centre Singapore (NHIC), and supported jointly by MOH and the National Research Foundation’s (NRF) National Robotics Programme (NRP).
The SHARP Grant aims to catalyse research and innovations that will
Support delivering quality care by extending human capabilities and assisting in care activities Improve health and clinical outcomes by enabling timely monitoring and management of
patient’s health and needs Enable productivity gains by improving efficiency and optimising limited healthcare resources
in the “General Nursing Ward 4.0” Support healthcare staff in the delivery of operational services related tasks which are
physically demanding but lower value-adding Empower elderly population to age-in-place in the community Alleviate demands on community-based healthcare staff and caregivers in provision of
healthcare
Through this Grant Call, MOH seeks novel, practical and impactful game-changing solutions. Marginal improvements or changes to human resource (HR) practices or the physical workplace which can be addressed using other funding sources will not be considered.
The applicant will have to explain in detail how the SHARP Grant will be used to develop and implement Assistive and Robotic technologies within the institution/cluster. The plans should include the scopes of system development & integration, validation of effectiveness and subsequent scaling of the developed system.
Purpose of the AI Singapore Grant Funding opportunity
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has potential to realise the transformation towards value-based healthcare; via more precise and faster medical diagnosis and processes. Clusters are invited to bring forward healthcare related problem statements which no existing commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions exists, but for which AI technologies and solutions could be built to solve it effectively.
The applicant will have to elaborate the problem statement(s) and the desired outcome(s) which impact productivity and healthcare outcome in detail.
Through this Grant, AI SG aims to match healthcare institutions to top AI minds in Singapore to solve AI problem statements. AI SG will draw upon their researchers in its ecosystem, consisting of NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SUSS, SIT and A*STAR. Qualified researchers will work with the healthcare institutions to craft the proposal to be evaluated for funding at a later stage.
