NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE(NHL)

History• League was founded in 1917

• It started with 6 teams and through a series of expansions, contractions, and relocations; the league is now composed of 30 active franchises.

• The original six teams are the Detroit Red wings, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadians and Toronto Maple Leafs

Teams

• The NHL has 30 teams that make up the league

• 23 Teams are American and 7 are Canadian

• The league is split into 2 conferences which are the eastern and western conferences

• From there the teams are split into divisions

• Wayne Gretzky is widely considered to be the greatest player to ever play hockey

• He won 4 Stanley Cups in his career and has numerous NHL records to his name

• He has the record for most goals, most goals in playoffs, most assists, most assists in playoffs, most points in career
