TRANSCRIPT
Dear Families of Nichols Elementary, Our second semester of the school year is underway, and this will be a very busy time for our teachers and students as we continue to monitor our progress toward achieving our goals for the 2015-16 school year. Possible placement/retention letters will be going home this week, and we need your help in making sure your child meets the state and district ex-pectations in order to be promoted to the next grade level. You can help by reinforcing at home, the skills taught at school. Reading should be a nightly activity, as well as practicing the appropriate basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division facts. If you have any questions or concerns about how your child is doing or need advice on what you can do at home to help, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a confer-ence. Your support is greatly appreciated by the faculty, and your child will certainly thrive from your participation in the learning process. We are thrilled to announce Mrs. Joy Bosquez as our Educator of the Year for 2015-16. She was selected for her leadership on the campus, leadership in the District and education profession, outstanding classroom performance, and outstanding community involvement. Mrs. Bosquez will be honored at the District celebration on Tuesday, March 1. As always, the faculty and I are honored to work alongside you and your exceptional children. Yours in education, Mrs. Sonya D. Kirkham, Principal

The Northside ISD Council of PTAs awards scholar-ships each year to outstanding graduating seniors from each NISD high school. The scholarship fund was named after Jack C. Jordan in 1988. Mr. Jordan served this district for 35 years, including as Superintendent from 1982 to 1993, and remains committed to Northside as an active member of the Northside School Museum Association. In order to be considered for a Jack C. Jordan Scholar-ship, a student must file the application according to the procedures outlined in the application packet and must meet the following criteria:
Be a graduate of a NISD high school
Attend a regionally accredited two/three/four-year college or university

The 2016 NEF 5K Run/Walk and Family Wellness Fair, pre-sented by CHRISTUS Santa Ro-sa Health System, is Satur-day, May 7 at SeaWorld San Antonio. The 5K has become one of the largest, local non-profit 5Ks in San Antonio. In 2014 and 2015, almost 5,000 people participated each year. Similar to the San Antonio Spurs chasing a 6th champion-ship, NEF has a "Race for Seis" of its own. The Founda-tion's goal is to have 6,000 participants this year. Help NEF be a champion for
NISD students!
On this day, competitive runners, NISD students, staff and their families, community and business partners will come together to support NEF's mis-sion to generate more re-sources needed for innovative educational programs for the District's 105,000 plus students. After the race, the fun contin-ues with lunch and a day at SeaWorld. Visit the NISD web-
site and register for the
NEF 5K today!
Coach Bertsch is our Team Captain for Nich-ols. Please contact him

What is Generation TX?
It is a movement.
It is a vision, an idea, a dream.
It refers to a culture of college and career readiness that leads to the
most successful generation ever.
It’s what’s next for Texas.
Generation TX is about passionate belief. It’s students, families, friends and educators who believe that all Texas students belong on the path to
education beyond high school. It’s about believing that the future depends on our success.
In observance of Generation TX Week, we are asking students and staff at Nichols to participate as we
learn about different colleges and how important following your dreams can be!
National and NISD’s School Counselors’ Week is February 1st-5th.
School Counselors’ Week is an opportunity for counselors to share who they are and what they do!

sees classrooms at a regularly scheduled time for guidance lessons?
conducts lessons to improve motivation and positive self concept?
talks with girls and boys when they are happy?
talks with girls and boys when they are sad?
talks with children about themselves and others?
helps groups of boys and girls in a variety ways?
suggests ways students can improve their school work?
is a FRIEND?
For 5th grade parents: 5th grade students will get to choose an elective to take in 6th grade. Please refer to the Stevenson Middle School
website for more information.
Important Dates: February 9th- Stevenson counselor will meet with 5th graders at 9:00 a.m. Course cards will be sent home for students
