Second hand Uniform
We are setting up a facility to Buy, Swap or Sell
preloved uniforms. Thanks to Melissa Chadwick for
proposing this idea. If you are interested in helping to
set this up could you please contact the office. If you
are happy to donate some preloved uniforms to get
the ball rolling, you can bring these in to the office.
Worm Food
The Grade 3 students are looking after the worm
farms this year. A worm food station is set up outside
rooms 14 and 15. All school families can donate
food. Worms are great recyclers but they are a little
fussy, no citrus, onion, bread, dairy or meat. Thanks.
Walk to School, Healthy Breakfast, Nude Food Day
and Farmer’s Market
On Thursday 30th March we will be holding a
‘Healthy Eating Day’. The day will commence with
walking to school, followed by a healthy breakfast.
We are encouraging all students to bring a healthy
snack and lunch with no packaging. We will then
hold our Farmer’s Market at the end of the day. We
would love some donations on the day of fresh
produce: fruit, vegetables, herbs and plants.
Gardening Group
We are looking for volunteers to join our Gardening
group on Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:15pm. If there are
any parents or grandparents interested in helping to
plant, weed, develop new garden areas and work
with our students, please contact the office and
leave your name and number.
Camps Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF) 2017
The Victorian Government will be providing a CSEF
payment to all eligible families to assist with the costs
of school trips, camps and sporting activities. Please
contact the office to get an application form. The
School will need to sight and copy the concession
card to ensure that the parent’s name and
Centrelink Reference Number (CRN) matches the
Centrelink database. Applications close 23rd June.
Further information can be found later in the
newsletter.
JSC Report
In Week 5 the Junior School Council held their very
first meeting as a group. Each of the grades were
asked to hold a class meeting in the week prior to
identify one idea that they believe would help the
school be a better place. The Grade 6 students then
met on the following day to collate all the ideas.
Our Grade 6 students will be doing all the fundraising
in 2017 as part of their involvement with Leaders of
Evolution and building a stronger community. We
look forward to combining the ideas from the Junior
School Council and Leaders of Evolution throughout
2017.
RI
RI classes will commence on Monday 20th March. Di
Eagle will hold classes after school (3:15pm - 4:00pm)
on Monday afternoons. There is an expression of
interest form in this week’s newsletter. Please fill in the
form and return as soon as possible.

PADDLE POP FUNDRAISER As part of a Leaders of
Evolution community project
four girls Indi, Mercesdez, Ava
and Caitlin will be coordinating
a paddle pop Thursday which
will raise money for new
basketball backboards, rings
and nets. We have decided to
offer three paddle pop flavours
which are Rainbow, Chocolate
and Banana. We will be selling
Paddle Pops for $1 each. This
will happen on Thursday the
23rd of March.
Orders must be in by Tuesday
the 21st of March.
An order form is at the back of
the newsletter
BUDDY BENCH
We are planning on building a buddy bench in
the yard. This will improve our school yard
because students that have no one to play with
can go to it. People that pass the buddy bench
and see someone on there can go and play with
them or find someone for them to play with. This is
going to be done by having a school fundraiser.
We have planned to have teachers slide into a
freezing pool. Students get to vote on what
teacher they want to see go down. To vote
students can bring money (every dollar is a vote).
The top three teachers that get the most votes
will have to go down the slide into the freezing
pool. Voting will be happening on the 27th, 28th,
29th and the 30th of March. The top three
teachers will slide down in to the water and ice
pool on the last day of Term 1, which is the 31st of
March.

NUDE FOOD
On Thursday March
30th we will be
having a Nude Food
Day.
Please bring a
healthy snack and
lunch with no
packaging.
We are trying to
reduce the amount
of rubbish around
the school and we
are encouraging
everyone to make
healthy choices.

I wanted to become environmental
captain because I am very passionate
about the environment, I am
approachable, and I am a good listener,
and I think that they are very important
qualities to have when representing the
students of Irymple South Primary School
for 2017. Students can approach me, and
I can listen to what they want, and with
my passion and ideas can help make that
happen.
Being the environmental captain for 2017
means that I can share my passion for
animals and show I am not afraid to get
my hands dirty. As a Captain, I can
represent the students at our meetings by
contributing their Ideas and my own.
I look forward to learning from teachers
and other students on ways that we can
help our Environment and most
importantly how our school can
contribute to making our world a happier
and more sustainable place to live.
I have a passion for the environment and
animals. I love to help people, I love to
work as a team and I love to teach other
students about the environment so they
can help to have a clean school/home
town.
Jack
Being an Environmental Captain for ISPS in
2017 is a great achievement for me. I
wanted to be able to make a positive
impact in our environment as well as the
other students at our school.
I would like to work collaboratively with
other Captains and Environmental leaders
on different projects to try and reduce our
carbon footprint, reduce waste and I
would like to see the wetlands opened at
our school. I would also like all students to
be aware of the impact we all have on
our environment.
I am developing my leadership skills in this
role. I have the courage to lead a group,
encourage them to share their ideas and
learn from the different ways we
approach tasks.

Grade 3 & 4 Inquiry On Friday, Willy Hannah visited the Grade 3 and 4 students as part of their Inquiry. He
spoke to the students about the indigenous community and showed and explained
about the artefacts that he brought along. The students had lots of interesting
questions for Willy and enjoyed learning about all the artefacts on show.
Willy showed us how aboriginal people hunted food with spears and
boomerangs. He also showed us how they found turtle eggs using boomerangs
and sticks. I had a go at playing the didgeridoo but it didn’t sound like it
should. It helped me with my inquiry because we have been learning about how
aboriginal people lived before the First Fleet arrived in Australia in 1788.

ART
with Mrs Lord Lego Art has been very popular! Students
are loving drawing and creating patterns
with the Lego. Students have collaborated
to create some wonderful group pieces.
