5 yearsDear readers, friends and colleagues, this month represents amajor milestone for us: we are celebrating out 5th anniversary and havebeen working hard the whole winter to present you a renewed Night&DayMagazine. Unfortunately, things do not always go as planned. I’m referringto our collaboration with Gaiakraft, a mineral, organic, completely “tree-free” paper, which has been postponed for corporate reasons. Hopefully,everything will be solved as soon as possible because I want to continueto give my wholehearted support to a revolutionary product such asGaiaKraft. But let’s turn for the moment... From this issue, the magazinehas a renewed graphic, soon we will have a new website, together with theguide and application for iPhone and iPad. Meanwhile, you can enjoy ourisland and celebrate with us our 5 years. From next month you canparticipate in Night&Day Awards, the event of the year, and vote for thebest in each category. Behfar Zoueshtiagh,mix of tradition and modernism “A painter creates not only in bad times, butalso when he is happy” Behfar Zoueshtiagh started drawing when he was veryyoung in his hometown Tehran; he used to draw on schoolbooks while teachers taught the lessons. Soon he realizedthat art was his passion and that’s when he started pain-ting, first at home without a teacher. Only after some yearsBehfar met Aidin Aghdashlo, became his student andlearnt various painting techniques. In 1996 he had hisfirst exhibition at Mansoreh Hosini in Tehran, where heshowed modern, naive and surreal paintings. Until 2001he continued to exhibit his oil paintings in various Iraniangalleries and had great success. He became nationallyrenowned thanks to an exhibition of innovative works ma-de of carved wood and painted with markers. “On thewall of the gallery there were 500 different pieces and Isold them all” - the artist says. His works are also presentin several galleries in London and Paris. Living in Ibiza for11 years, he combines his work as a cook (“Cooking is al-so an art” – Behfar says) while still paints in his studio. Ta-king Dali and Miro as references, Behfar creates acrylic andoil paintings, drawing his inspiration only from his ownideas and mixing themes of his native Persian culture withmodernism. Combining colors and styles, his paintingsperfectly convey his passion for life and art.

Behfar Zoueshtiagh,mezcla de tradición y modernismo “Un pintor no sólo crea en los momentosmalos, sino también cuando está feliz”Desde muy joven Behfar Zoueshtiagh empezó a dibujar ensu Teherán nativo; en clase solía dibujar en los librosmientras los profesores impartían las clases. Se dio cuen-ta muy pronto que lo suyo era el arte y fue entonces cuan-do empezó a pintar, primero en su casa, sin la ayuda denadie. Sólo después de algunos años conoció al maestroAidin Aghdashlo, se convirtió en su alumno y estudió conél distintas técnicas pictóricas. En 1996 hizo su primera ex-posición en la galería Mansoreh Hosini en Teherán, don-de exhibió cuadros de estilo moderno, naif y surrealista.Hasta 2001 continuó exponiendo sus óleos en distintas ga-lerías iraníes llegando a tener un excelente éxito. Empe-zó a tener renombre a nivel nacional gracias a una expo-sición de obras innovadoras hechas con madera tallada ypintada con rotuladores. “En la pared de la galería había500 piezas distintas y vendí todas”- nos cuenta el artista.Sus obras están presentes también en varias galerías lon-dinenses y parisinas. Establecido en Ibiza desde hace 11años, compagina su trabajo de cocinero (“La cocina tam-bién es un arte” – afirma Behfar) mientras sigue pintan-do en su taller. Teniendo a Dalí y a Miró como referentes,Behfar crea acrílicos y óleos, inspirándose solo en susideas y mezclando temas de su cultura persa con moder-nismo. Combinando colores vivos y distintos estilos, suscuadros transmiten su gran pasión por la vida y el arte.
