The film industry contains a numerous amount of distribution and production companies across 3 main areas:

• Hollywood• British• Local

Hollywood includes massive studios such as Sony, Disney and Universal, British get their money from companies like BBC, Film 4 and BFI and local are on a much smaller scale with independent institutions such as Candi Studios. The largest companies with a high money input hold the most promising rewards however success is just as dependent on the film itself.

Studio Canal

We chose Wild Horses Film company to produce our thriller. It is an independent British production company which has produced six films so far including ‘My Brother the Devil’. This prompted us to use them as ‘My Brother the Devil’ is a gritty movie filmed in a local area (Hackney) with a similar target audience to ‘Manquant’. I thought it would be best to use as my production company as they possess a low budget which is affordable for our independent film. This means there will be lower cheaper production values.

WILD HORSES FILM COMPANY

For our distributor we chose Studio Canal, a French-based production/distribution company which has distributed many independent films including ‘Attack the Block’, a British production. As my thriller can be classed as both Art-house cinema and localised viewing, Studio Canal is very suitable. Using a smaller company ensures that prices are cheaper since digital projection is more widely available and budgets are lower. ‘Attack the Block’ is also a locally filmed film therefore it is more likely that this distributor would distribute my thriller compared to a big American institution.
