San Food

They eat ostrich eggs and when they have eaten

them they put them on sacred sites or when

they traveled they put valuable water inside

the eggs. They also eat Hippo meat. They also eat

fish. They used canoes, nets and spears to hunt

fish. The women were the gatherers, the men

were the hunters. The children did not do

anything, they stayed at home. The San traveled

to find other good places to live and to be near

water and different animal homes so they

could hunt Hippo and other kinds of animals.

San Shelter

The San built their homes with dry grass and

sticks. They always lived in villages. They

travelled all around Africa . Some San stayed in

their villages forever. If their homes broke

they had to go to another place. Sometimes they

never moved to another place because they had

enough water, materials and other stuff they

could use from the environment. The San always

lived by water and trees.

San IntroDUCTION

The San have lived in Africa for 30,000 years and

some tribes are about 50,000 years old. Many of

those older tribes have died out. The San never

pollute or damage the environment. The San have

always beEN a peaceful people. Today some San still

live in the deserts and these tribes that still live

in the KhalaHari desert still travel and hunt liketheir ancestOrs did. Some san also have jobs in wild

life parks and ON farms.

San Clothing

The San dress like their ancestors did in the past.

They wear shawlS called a karosS. this was made

out of antelope skin. And they usually wore it

European style. The used the koross to carry food

or babies.

San Religion and Traditions

The San traditions were dancing until dawn. The

San liked to tell stories, however they could not

tell a story until the owner of the story said

yes. If the owner of the story did not say yes the

storyteller could not tell it.

San Art!! !!The San paINTED on rockS to tell their

history. This history also tells how they came

to Africa. They used bones and fingers to paint

with. they also used sticks, quills and

feathers to paint. People who were artists

spent their whole lives painting on different

objects. The San made colors by crushing

colored rocks and different items. A sharpened

bone was usually used to maKe a small line and

a stick made a line and a finger made a middle

thick line. San people did paintings on big

walls but these were faraway from their

villages. Pantings were put on big walls up high

so it must have been beautiful art. They also

drew on rocks and burned them so that it would

encountered Europeans?

When outsiders came in the British came from THE

south and the Bantu from the north. Then the

African San people needed to move further into

the deserts. The San African people dIDn’t want

to fight but when the British came further in

they had to fight. Many San people were poisoned

or killed When the settleRs came in. the San saw

the Europeans AND they let them in their country.

when the British attacked the SAN they couldn’t

match the fighting skills of the British. The Sanlost to the British and many had to be slaves.
