Dear Parishioners, this week on the 14th
is the feast day of a beloved polish saint, St. Maxi-millian Kolbe. He was born Raymund Kolbe on January 8, 1894, in the Kingdom of Poland, part of the Russian Empire. He was a Polish
Conventual Franciscan friar and a martyr in the German death Camp of Auschwitz during World War II. He is the patron saint of drug addicts, prisoners, families, and the pro-life movement. St. Maximilian Kolbe was very active in promoting the Immaculate Virgin Mary and is known as the Apostle of Consecration to Mary. Much of his life was strongly influenced by a vision he had of the Virgin Mary when he was 12 years old.
"That night I asked the Mother of God what was to become of me. Then she came to me holding two crowns, one white, the other red. She asked me if I was willing to accept either of these crowns. The white one meant that I should persevere in purity, and the red that I should become a martyr. I said that I would accept them both."
St Maximillian, pray for us.
On Thursday, August 15th
, we celebrate the Assump-tion of the Blessed Mother being taken up into heaven. Catholics worldwide meditate on the Assumption of Mary when praying the glorious mysteries of the Rosary on this day. The prayer below can help put you in a fitting frame of mind when reflecting on this wondrous event:
Almighty and eternal God, who hast taken up into the glory of Heaven, with body and soul, the im-maculate Virgin Mary, Mother of thy son: grant us, we pray, that we may always strive after heavenly things and thus merit to share in her glory. Amen.
Immaculate Mary, pray for us.
God bless you all, Fr. Sylvester

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
“For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” (Lk 12:34)
Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heaven. The world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate, investments, and material goods. How much time are you investing in building up a worldly treasure? How much time are you investing in building up a heavenly treas-ure? To invest more time in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of the things of this world.
