NJ Statewide Network for Cultural Competence presents Achieving Equity in Maternal, Child, & Family Health: A Call to AcCon Overall Conference Goals: To increase par,cipants’ knowledge about: na,onal, state and local ini,a,ves designed to help eliminate dispari,es and foster equity in maternal, child, and family health the importance of “upstream approaches” in addressing the biopsychosocial and environmental determinants of maternal, child, and family health best and promising prac,ces for improving maternal, child, and family health outcomes in diverse popula,ons Overall Conference ObjecCve: Explain how collabora,on between Federal and state partners can improve health outcomes in maternal and child health in the state and across the na,on. At the end of the Conference, parCcipants will be able to: 1. List prac,cal sugges,ons for effec,ve communica,on when working with interpreters. 2. Discuss the causa,ons of fatherlessness in America. 3. Describe the components in conduc,ng screening for au,sm in families from culturally & linguis,cally different backgrounds. 4. List three basic components of a genogram. 5. Use a genogram as a tool to explore complex family paOerns that influence behavior. 6. Describe the model for training women of childbearing age to be peer leaders. 7. List specific services and supports for women aimed at improving preconcep,on, prenatal and interconcep,on care. 8. Iden,fy ways that providers, educators and family members can create safe space for LGBTQ youth survivors of sexual violence. 9. Discuss cultural beliefs and its impact on the use of Early Interven,on services in Asian Indians living in the U.S. 10. Iden,fy interac,on skills that are culturally appropriate when providing care to Asian Indians. 11. Explain strategies used to support diverse militaryconnected children with special health care needs and their families. 12. Describe ini,a,ves occurring in New Jersey that improve health outcomes for children and their families.
