INTRODUCTION The development of any region or state or country depends on the growth of

different sectors of its economy. The Industrial development of any region, in turn,

depends on the resources, skills, infrastructure etc. available in the area and the

demand for goods and services. However, the latest potential for growth may not be

apparent at first sight and therefore, it may not be able to plan properly for the

development of Industries in the absence of reliable data regarding existing Industries,

the availability of recourses, skills, infrastructure facilities and so on.

RESOURCES ANALYSIS Agriculture

Since Tapioca, banana and Jack fruits are the major agricultural produces in the

Municipality, there is huge potential in the production of food products like flavoured chips,

processed Jackfruit by using these as Raw-materials.

Plantation Crop This Municipality is one of the major producer of natural Rubber in Pathanamthitta

District, there is ample scope for more Rubber based units such as Rubber bands, Surgical

gloves, Tread Rubber etc.

Surface water resources;

Even though major rivers or any other water source is located in the municipal

plenty of potable pure water, which is very essential for Food based Units is available in

the municipal area. There is ample scope for Packaged Drinking Water units and Aerated

Water units.

Irrigation project :

Kallada Irrigation Left Side Canal is passing through the Centre of the Municipality . So Irrigation facility is available for Agricultural Purpose.

Tourism

Considering the advantages of Pilgrim Centers nearby the places the Municipality has

many potential in the Pilgrim based unit like Eco friendly carry bags, Paper covers and cups,

Candles, Camphor and Incense Sticks.etc.

Animal Husbandary:

Animal husbandry plays an important role in generating employment and income to

the weaker sections of the population. Veterinary facilities are available in the Municipality.

Diary Production Milk Production in the Muncipality Area

The upward trend of Milk production shows that an average of 70% of the total milk

production is available for value addition and can be used for manufacturing of Dairy food

products . So we can suggest units like Milk Products, ice creams and other milk based sweets

unit. These items has a very good demand in the local area.

Infrastructure 1. Road Transportation :

Road connectivity is considerably fair in the Municipality. Total length of roads under various

categories are as follows National Highways - Nil State Highways - 5 km Major District Roads - 18 km

Other - 96.53 Km Railways

Even though there are no railway network connecting the interior parts of the

Municipality, Kayamkulam is the nearest railway station in the Trivandrum –Ernakulam Route

which is well connected by roads.

Communication 2 Post Offices and 1 Telephone Exchanges are functioning in this Municipality

area. Also almost all the mobile service providers have wide network in this area.

Therefore adequate communication facility is available in this area.

No vacant Industrial Shed or Land is at present available in the municipal area at present.

The Adoor Municipality is generally considered as industrially backward. The statistics as on 31.3.2017 shows 555 industrial units registered under SSI/ MSME Act in the Municipality in the tune of total Investment of Rs.1,465.91 lakhs and generated 1975 employment opportunities. Banking

Even though technically and skilled labour force is available in the municipal Area due to the lack sufficient land available for setting up the industrial units is the main problem for upcoming new industries in the area. But there are numerous chances for setting up units in service sector. Adequate transportation facility is available in almost all the paces of the Municipal area.
