FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Wishing all our students, staff and parents a happy holiday.

Please enjoy a well deserved break after an industrious term.

School recommences Monday 15th July.

Reading over the holidays

Check out the ideas below for allowing kids to

1. Visit your local library

It’s free and children love choosing their own books to

read. Libraries often have free storytelling events and

competitions so look out for those too.

2. Cubby house reading

Build a cubby house or hideout with your child out of dark

blankets or sheets. Ask your child to choose some of their

books to take into the den to read. Don’t forget the torch –

it’s exciting to read a book by torch light!

3. Out and about

When travelling, encourage your child to help when

reading directions, looking out for road signs and talking

about how long they have to travel or how far they have

left.

4. Cooking

If your child likes to cook, encourage them to read the

instructions in recipes and plan for what is needed.

5. Shopping

When doing your weekly shop, encourage your child to

help with the shopping by writing and reading the list as

well as finding products in store or online.

6. Reading to other members of the family

Children love to share reading skills with family members

so if you are visiting family then take reading books with

you so someone different can say how proud they are

hearing your child read. It’s a good chance to show off!

Report Cards

Report cards have been emailed home to parents today. If you

did not receive your child’s report card please contact our

office. Parents who do not have an email address recorded on

our database will be printed a paper copy which will go home

with students early next term.

School Colour Run

Congratulations Northview State School on raising $15 876 for our school P&C

through the school colour run. Students can now log into their online profile

through schoolfundraising.com.au and order any fundraising prizes they have

accrued. A reminder that sponsorship money (cash) must be returned to the

school office by tomorrow.

Robb Kidd visits Northview

Robb Kidd from STAR 101.9 visited our year 6 students

yesterday to speak about bias in the media and how

journalists decide what questions to ask when interviewing.

His visit is all part of the year 6 English unit examining

news articles. Rob also spoke about the life of media

personality and fielded questions from students for at least

30 mins after his presentation. Thanks very much Rob and

STAR 101.9 team for coming along.

Sporting Wheelies Visit

Peter Sumpter from Sporting Wheelies Association visited Northview School Wednesday afternoon to

teach some of our students how to play Bocce. Lots of fun was had by all.
