Editor’s Note – Busy Hands at OFRA! There seems to be no rest at OFRA during the dog days of summer. We have plenty of news again in this issue. Our CEO, Paul Belair brings us up-to-date on OFRA, Heidi Schell shares the latest photos of Uusi Koti and we have extensive cov-erage of our Therapeutic Recreation and Activity group’s events. Dear OFRA Residents, Members and Supporters: Thank You / Kiitos – We are Grateful for your Ongoing Support!! The Ontario Finnish Resthome Foundation has had a busy spring and the summer/fall seems to be just as active. Thank you to all that participated, volunteered or donated to the Walk ‘n Roll Event held in May. It was the first time we had this type of event – over $6,000 was raised for all areas of OFRA and despite the weather (yes, there were a few flurries in the air), everyone had a good time. We are on the homestretch of the Uusi Koti Campaign with our final event – see below for details. The Campaign may be winding down but as with our other buildings and projects, designated donations to Uusi Koti will continue to be welcome. Just as a reminder, ALL donations of $1000 or more, a single or an accumulation of monetary or in kind donations of $1000+ to any building or area of OFRA, will be acknowledged on one of our new donor recognition features! We are currently finalizing the design of our feature wall for Uusi Koti donations. Please contact the Fundraising Office at Suo-mi Eesti Maja for more information.

The Harvest Fest OFRA and The Foundation are hosting our Grand Finale event for the Uusi Koti Campaign. The bricks and mortar of the building are almost complete but the interior needs some help. We still need to raise additional funds to assist in the purchase of furnishings for the common spaces as well as to purchase therapeutic and accessible equipment and sup-plies that will make Uusi Koti a home for its residents. The event will take place on September 9, 2016. Doors open at 6:00pm at the Algoma’s Water Tower Inn & Suites. For a cost of $55 attendees, will be treated to a Traditional Family Style Dinner and entertainment by Twin City & Sounds Entertainment. You will also have the chance to win many prizes from a variety of Penny Raffle and Silent Auction items as well as a 50/50 Cash Lottery. Discounted tickets are available for OFRA Members and those who purchase a table of ten before if purchased before August 29th 2016. Get your tickets early and choose your table!

Hyvät OFRAN asukkaat, jäsenet ja kannattajat. KIITOS! Olemme kiitollisia jatkuvasta kannatuksestanne! OFRAN säätiöllä on ollut kiireinen kevät ja tuleva syksy näyttää myös vilkkaalta. Kiitos kaikille jotka osallistuitte Walk'n Roll tapahtumamme toukokuussa, osallistujille, vapaaehtoisille sekä lahjoittajille. Foundation Farewell It is with great sadness that the Ontario Finnish Resthome Foundation says fare-well to our board member, Allan Konka. Allan passed away on June 2nd after a brief illness. Allan was recruited in 2006 by Eini Tuomi and Sylvia Cady. At our June board meeting, many of the longer-term board members shared that Allan was a gentle soul and hard-worker. Both Allan and Jean (Allan’s wife of 34 years) helped at many events over the years – garage sales, bake sales, socials, silent auctions and the list goes on. The greatest achievement around that time (in 2008) was the purchase of the OFRA bus – it is still in use by our residents for their excursions in and around the Sault. Thank you Allan for your service. We will miss you dear friend.

Valitettavasti joudumme ilmoittamaan lautakuntamme jäsenen menehtymisestä. Allan Konka nukkui pois kesäkuun toinen päivä, sairastuttuaan. Allan liittyi joukkoomme Eini Tuomen ja Sylvia Cady'n vaikutuksesta. Kesäkuun kokouksessa monet pitkäaikaiset jä-senet muistelivat Allania ahkerana työntekijänä ja hyväsydämisenä. Allan ja hänen Jean vaimonsa (34 vuotta avioliitossa) olivat mukana auttamassa monissa tapahtumissamme vuosien varrella . Heidän työnsä panoksesta on muistona edelleenkin OFRAn bussi joka on vielä käytössämme, ja jolla kuljettama asukkaitamme eri tapahtumiin kaupungissamme.

News from the CEO’s Desk: Summer is here and the activity at OFRA shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, things really look like they’re heating up (pun intended).

For this installment of Around the Pond I’ve selected some news items I think everyone will be interested in. First, let’s talk about OFRA’s facilities, which as you are all likely aware, have been going through some significant changes recently.

Uusi Koti continues development at a very fast pace… so fast in fact that our builder SalDan has recently confirmed that progress is several weeks ahead of schedule! This is due in large part to the very mild winter we had this year, but perhaps even more due to Sam Biasucci himself, who is a driving force for progress in his own right. It is no easy task to coordinate the myriad of trades and materials needed to accomplish this project, and Sam with his team are doing a masterful job of it. Right now, the external cladding of the building is being installed, and inside the drywall installation is proceeding quickly. Over a very warm weekend in mid-June, OFRA’s super-star Heidi Schell coordinated a “sneak-peak” tour for all the tenants of Uusi Koti so that everyone could get a sense of the space and make final decisions about next steps. As a result, a small number of apartments have once again become available, so if you were waiting for such an opportunity, I would encourage you to connect with Heidi quickly, as these vacant units will not be available for long.

In addition to the massive undertaking of completing the Uusi Koti project, OFRA continues to move forward in mak-ing best possible use of space in the existing facilities. Over the last few months, spaces within OFRA’s Long Term Care facility Mauno Kaihla Koti (MKK) and Assisted Living facility Kotitalo have been reorganized, with the desired outcome being to develop a space within which to dedicate the provision of quality palliative care services. A great debt of thanks is extended to MKK’s Family Council for raising awareness of this need, and the Council itself is part-nering in the completion of this goal through their own fundraising efforts.

The utilization of space is a concern outside as well. Over the last several weeks, shortages in staff, resident and visi-tor parking have been addressed. When visiting OFRA, visitors can expect additional parking spaces in the Kotitalo lot, due to the creation of roughly 30 additional spots along Uusi Koti Rd. (i.e. the driveway to the new building). While the new parking is still gravel presently, once the heavy machinery has been removed from the site this fall, it will be paved to create a permanent parking area for staff so that parking spaces closest to the main entrance to Ko-titalo can be dedicated to residents and their guests.

Of interest to Around the Pond readers that are also volunteers for OFRA, you will be interested to know that the Government of Ontario has introduced changes to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) which came into effect July 1, 2016. The most significant change that affects OFRA is the requirement that all volunteers, regardless of role, be trained on the AODA’s Customer Service Standards. Heidi Slotegraaf, OFRA’s Activities Manager and Volunteer Coordinator is currently developing a communications and training strategy to comply with the new legislation. If you are a volunteer, you can expect to hear from Heidi soon with next steps.

Work continues to convert all lighting within OFRA to LED. LEDs are light emitting diodes, small electronic devices that give off far more light per unit of electricity than traditional incandescent or fluorescent lights. They are typically more expensive than older methods of providing light, but the money they will end up saving means the expense pays for itself. We expect an approximate 20% savings in electricity costs going forward once the conversion is com-plete. Other advantages include: LEDs last longer than incandescent/fluorescent lights; LEDs reduce carbon dioxide emissions; and, OFRA may be in a position to take advantage of rebates/incentives by completing this conversion.

In previous Around the Pond updates, I wrote about leveraging technology OFRA already has to make the work being done across every department of OFRA more efficient, and ultimately more effective in terms of service delivery to residents. Most recently, people calling OFRA may have noticed that OFRA’s phone system was updated. Now, you call OFRA, the system defaults to auto-attendant, with simplified menus. This relieves the call pressure at the front desk, and gets callers to their intended contacts faster.

We’ve also begun leveraging OFRA’s scheduling system to communicate with Kotitalo residents about available events/activities every day. The estimated time savings for staff is approximately 2 hours per day, or 40 hours per month. This is a one-year pilot project, and we plan to re-evaluate once the pilot is complete to determine feasibility of permanent adoption.

And finally, we have begun the process of updating SEM’s laundry facilities. Currently, residents of SEM need to load a prepaid card for laundry by visiting one of the staff located in that building, which is fine so long as laundry is being done Monday to Friday each week. We realize, for many, that just isn’t practical. So, to allow SEM residents to ac-cess card reloads 24-7, we’ve obtained a proposal from Coin-o-matic for self-serve card re-loaders. It is currently be-ing reviewed, but appears to be a favourable option.

On jälleen kesä ja OFRA'lla ei ole merkkiäkään työn hidastumisesta. Itseasiassa vauhti senkun kiihtyy.

Tähän numeroon olen koonnut uutisia aiheista joista uskon mahdollisimman monen olevan kiinnostunut. En-simmäiseksi haluan kertoa OFRAn tiloista, jotka ovat käyneet läpi merkittäviä muutoksia.

Uusi Koti valmistuu nopeaa vauhtia, rakentajamme Sal Dan, on todennut projektin olevan muutaman viikon etuajassa. Tämä johtuu osaltaan leudosta säästä talven aikana, mutta myös Sam Biasussin kyvyistä ohjata työtä taidolla eteenpäin. Tällaisen projektin koordinointi rakentajien ja materiaalien saapumisen välillä on haasteellista, Sam ja hänen tiiminsä ovat onnistuneet erinomaisesti. Ulkovuorausta asennetaan parhaillaan ja sisätiloissa seinien asentaminen edistyy nopeaa vauhtia. Kesäkuun puolivälissä Heidi Schell järjesti tule-ville uusille asukkaille mahdollisuuden tutustua uusiin tiloihin. Näin kaikki saivat tilaisuuden tehdä heitä koskevia päätöksiä, ennen seuraavaa vaihetta. Tämän seurauksena muutama asunto on nyt vapautunut ja on tarjolla vuokrattavaksi. Jos olet toivonut tällaista mahdollisuutta, kehoitan sinua toimimaan , sillä nämä asunnot menevät nopeasti.

Sen lisäksi, että meneillään on Uusi Koti projekti, OFRA jatkaa vanhojen tilojen tehokkaan käytön suunnit-telua. Viime kuukausien aikana OFRAn, MKK ja Kotitalon tiloja on jälleenorganisoitu. Toiveenamme on saada tila laadukasta palliatiivista hoitoa varten. Kiitos MKKn perheneuvostolle tämän tarpeen esille tuomis-esta. He myös osallistuvat keräyksellä tämän tavoitteen saavuttamiseen.

Jatko….Uutisia Pääjohtajalta:

Myös ulkotilan käyttö on ollut huomioitavana. Viime viikko-jen aikana olemme kiinnittäneet erityisesti huomiota parkkitilat puutteellisuuteen. OFRA'lla vierailevat saavat lisä parkkitilaa Kotitalon parkkipaikalta. Uusi Koti Dr. varrella tulee olemaan 30 uutta parkkipaikkaa, joka näin ollen vapauttaa tilaa Kotitalolta. Uusi alue päällystetään heti, kun raskas työkoneisto on saatu alueelta pois ja sen päällystäminen on mahdollista. Uusi alue tulee olemaan työntekijöiden parkkitilaa ja vapautuva tila Ko-titalolla jää näin ollen asukkaiden sekä vierailijoiden käyttöön.

Haluan myös ilmoittaa muutoksista Ontarians with Disabilities Act'iin , joita Ontarion Osavaltion hallitus on asettanut voimaan heinäkuun 1, 2016 , nämä muutokset koskevat OFRAn vapaaehtoistyöntekijöitä. Suurin muutos OFRA'lla tulee olemaan kaikkien vapaaehtoisten , riippumatta heidän roolistaan, kouluttaminen AODA'n Customer Service Standardeihin. Heidi Slotegraaf OFRA'lla kehittää parhaillaan koulutus ja kommu-nikaatio strategiaa uuden lainsäädännön noudattamiseksi. Jos olet vapaaehtoistyöntekijä saat varmasti pian uutisia Heidiltä seuraavasta vaiheesta.

Työ OFRA'lla jatkuu myös kaikkien valaisimien muuttamiseksi LED valoiksi. LED valot ovat tehokkaampia ja taloudellisempia , kun vanhat loisteputket tai perinteiset lamput. Niiden hankinta maksaa jonkun verran, mut-ta säästö tulee takaisin niiden vähäisen käyttö kustannuksen vuoksi. Oletamme 20% säästöä sähkönku-lutuksessa, kunhan olemme saaneet muutoksen valmiiksi. LED valot ovat pidempi ikäisiä, vähentävät hiilidi-oksidi päästöjä ja tulevaisuudessa voimme käyttää hyväksemme alennuksista jotka koskevat meitä muutoksen tehtyämme , joten tästä on OFRA'lle ja ympäristöllemme monenlaista etua.

Aikaisemmissa numeroissa olen maininnut teknologiaa koskevista uudistuksista ja muutoksista , jon-ka tarkoituksena on kehittää tehokkaampi tapa palvella asukkaita. Viimeaikoina OFRA'lle pu-helimella soittaneet ovat ehkä huomanneet muutoksia. Toivomme , että automatisointi nopeuttaa ja helpottaa asiointia ja saa tavoittelemanne henkilön langan päähän nopeammin.

Olemme aloittaneet pilotti projektin jonka tarkoituksena on säästää henkilökunnan aikaa 2 tunnilla päivässä , 40 tuntia kuukaudessa. Projekti on yhden vuoden kokeilu ja arvioimme kokeilun lopussa onko sen toteutta-minen tulevaisuudessa kannattavaa. Projektin aikana kommunikoimme Kotitalon asukkaiden kanssa heille tarjolla olevista harrastuksista ja aktiviteeteista päivittäin.

Olemme aloittaneet SEM pyykkitilojen käytön tehostamisen . Olemme tietoisia nykyisestä käytännöstä , joka koskee " pyykkikorttien lataamista" . Tämän hetkinen tilanne ei ole kovin toimiva ja näin ollen asukkaiden toi-vomuksesta yritämme parhaillaan hankkia itsepalvelu konetta pyykkitilaan , jolla voi ladata kortin 24/7 , mil-loin vain. Tämä tuntuu olevan mieluinen vaihtoehto. Asiaa käsitellään parhaillaan.

Fairies and Other Garden Delights Have you been for a walk along Mailan Polku behind Suomi Eesti Maja lately? Fairies, gnomes and yes, even flowers are in abundance! There are obviously many Green Thumbs at work. Gail Sheppard’s Fairy Garden has kept her busy all spring and summer.

Barbara Burzese loves to putter in her garden. Mir-jam Rissanen is often found digging and planting around SEM and Kotitalo—it’s her passion! Anna Gabrylewicz looks after the Rose Garden and fusses with the flowers outside Kestitupa. There are so many residents around OFRA that enhance their (and our) surroundings with plants and flowers—apologies upfront for not

naming all of you Green Thumbs but know that we all appreciate your efforts! We have lost one special gardener this spring—Nuala Jalak. Nuala could often be found tending to the garden outside of the side entrance to SEM. Thank you to her friends and family for continuing to keep this space beautiful.

Keijuja ja muita puutarhan iloja

Oletko ollut kävelyllä Suomi Eesti majan takana, Mailan Polulla ? Paikka vilisee keijuja , tonttuja ja kuk-kia runsaudessaan. Viherpeu-kalot ovat olleet ahkerasti työssä. Gail Sheppard'in Keiju Puutarha on pitänyt hänet työntäyteisenä koko kevään ja kesän.Barbara Burzese pitää omassa puutarhassaan puuhailusta. Mirjam Rissasen löytää usein kaivamasta ja istuttamassa SEM ja Kotitalon ympärillä, se on hänen intohimonsa! Anna Gabrylewicz hu-olehtii ruusutarhasta sekä kukkasista Kestituvan ympärillä. OFRA'lla on useita asukkaita jotka kaunistavat ympäristöämme kukkasin ja kasvein. Ar-vostamme myös kaikkien tei-dän nimeltämainitsematto-

mien ahkeraa työtänne!

Menetimme tänä keväänä yhden arvokkaista puutarhureistamme- Nuala Jalak. Nuala Jalak huolehti kukkasista jotka ovat SEM sivusisäänkäynnillä. Kiitos hänen ystävilleen ja perheelle, sillä he huolehtivat nyt kukistamme.

News from the Ladies Auxiliary

Making Coffee Making coffee is one of those daily activities that most people enjoy. For most people it's a morning ritual. And coffee in the morning just smells so good! And coffee made outside on the fire has the most wonderful aroma. Making coffee should not be very complicated, but that's not always so. Before coffee makers we had to add the grounds to the pot. Some would add the coffee to the boiling water some into cold. A friend of mine would mix three different brands of coffee to get just the right flavour. Some would add cold water into the coffee to get it to settle in the pot. I remember my mother buying coffee and roasting it herself. During the war we would even use barley and peas for making coffee, when we could not get the real thing. I can remember a ship , " Hercules" , bringing coffee from Brazil. What joy! I wonder how many can still remember that? Here in Canada, in many Finnish homes there is still an old copper coffee pot that came from the old country. They are valuable mementos. Many of today's modern coffee makers seem very complicated. I'm not even interested to try them. Percolator used to be a very popular coffee maker, now most makers have a filter. This type of maker should be easy to use, but accidents happen. What a mess if you forget the filter. It also is very easy to forget to add the coffee to the filter or to place the pot into the maker and, well you can guess the end result! Who remembers the coffee grinder? Children would sometimes grind the coffee to help mom or just for the fun of it. Sometimes salt was added to the coffee. And the grandparents would drink the coffee of the plate with the sugar cube between the lips. And one more thing: the coffee at the Finnish Restohome’s Kestitupa is great coffee and served several times weekly. Let's go for a coffee and support a good cause!!!

Naisjaoston kuulumisia—Soile Vuotilainen

Kahvinkeitto on yksi niitä hauskoja tehtäviä, johon jokainen yleensä ryhtyy mielellään. Se on monessa kodissa niitä ensimmäisiä aamutoimia , melkein kuin velvollisuus. Ja kuinka hyvälle kahvi hetkenkuluttua tuoksuukaan. Oletko huomannut , että ulkona keitet-tynä, etenkin nuotiolla, kahviin tulee aivan erikoinen aromi? Teknisesti kahvinkeiton pitäisi olla hyvin yksinkertainen toimitus: vettä pannuun ja porot mukaan! Vaan eipä olekkaan. Toiset laittavat kahvijauheen kylmään veteen , toiset taas kiehuvaan. " Näin tehtiin ennen. " Minulla oli ystävä, joka sekoitti kolmea erilaista kahvia, ennenkuin sai kahviinsa sen oikean "flavourin". Joillakin on tapana lisätä lopuksi pienimäärä kylmää vettä valmiiseen kahviin, että se selviäisi nopeammin. Minä muistan näitä kahvinkeiton rituaaleja ihan sellaiselta ajalta, kun äitini osti "pööniä" kaupasta ja sitä sitten paahdettiin itse "prännärillä " hellan päällä. Sota aikana paahdettiin jopa ohranjyviä ja herneitä, kun oikeaa kahvia ei saanut kaupoista. Kahvin tuska oli kova, jotain piti keksiä. Oli korviketta ja vastiketta. Sitten tuli kahvilaiva "Herkules" ja toi kahvilastin Brasiliasta!!! Voi sitä ilon päivää! Kuinkahan moni vielä muistaa sen ajan? Täällä Kanadassa monessa suomalaisessa kodissa on vielä koristeena " vanhasta maasta" tuotu kuparinen kahvipannu, ehkä useampikin. Ne ovat varmasti muistorikkaita esineitä. Nykyaikana on pannuja ja keittimiä vaikka minkälaisia. Jotkut näyttävät niin moni-mutkaisilta etten edes uskaltaisi niitä ruveta kokeilemaan. Ei ole kauaa, kun vielä oli käytössä sellainen pannu, jossa vesi pulputti kiehuessaan put-kea pitkin ylös ja saatoit katsella sitä kannen lasinupissa. Tavallisin kahvinkeitin tällähet-kellä taitaa olla automaattinen laite, jossa tarvitaan "filtteri" (suodatin). Tällaisen keittimen käyttö pitäisi olla hyvin helppoa, vaan onkohan? Tiedän tapauksia, kun "filtteri" on unohtunut ja porot ovat tukkinet aukon, josta valmis kahvi valuu kannuun. Arvaatko seuraukset? Se ei myöskään ole harvinaista , että kahvi unohtuu suodattimesta ja pannuun tuleekin vain vettä. Niinkin voi käydä, että pannu unohtuu keittimen viereen ja kahvi valuu pitkin työpöytää. Sekös harmittaa! Siitä tulee iso sotku ja siivoaminen. Onpa sekin koettu joskus. Muistaako joku vielä kahvimyllyn? Se oli käsinpyöritettävä ja lapsetkin saivat sillä joskus jauhaa kahvia omaksi ilokseen ja äidille avuksi. Joskus lisättiin sikuriakin kahvin jouk-koon. Sitä en kyllä muista miltä se maistui. Jotkut laittoivat jopa ripauksen suolaa kahviinsa. Mummot kaatoivat kahvinsa "tassille" ja siitä se sitten hörpittiin sokeripalan läpi. Sitten vielä: Lepokodin pannuissa valmistuu HYVÄÄ KAHVIA MONTA KERTAA VIIKOS-SA!!! Mennäänpä kahville ja kannatetaan hyvää asiaa.

Uusi Koti Update

Kesä on saapunut ja Uusi Koti valmistuu nopeaa vauhtia! Olen hyvin innoissani seuratessani edistystä vieraillessani rakennuksella viikottain. Kesäkuussa järjestimme tuleville asukkaille tilaisuuden tutustua heidän uuden kotinsa valmisteilla oleviin tiloihin. Voi vain todeta, että upealta näyttää! Kuvittele viimeistä teknologiaa omaa rakennus oderneine turvajärjestelmineen, vesijakelujärjestelmä joka takaa tasaisen vedenpaineen kaikille asukkaille, elegantin sisääntuloaulan jossa on suihkulähde seinällä ja viihtyisä seu-rustelutila. Uusi Koti tarjoaa asukkailleen todella paljon ja tulee olemaan elämäntyyli. Niin kuin kuvista näet ulkorappausta laitetaan parhaillaan, istutuslaatikot puutarhassa ja hissit, alkavat kaikki olla paikallaan.

Ensikerralla, kun ylität kansainvälisen sillan joen yli, hiljennä vauhtia takaisin tullessasi ja näet kuinka Uusi Koti seisoo mäellä puunlatvojen yläpuolella (kuva oikeassa yläreunassa). Todella hieno rakennus! Onnit-telut kaikille jotka luottavaisina ovat varanneet asunnon! Uskon sydämestäni, että tulette Sault Ste. Marien parhaimpaan paikkaan!

Summer Greetings from the OFRA Theraputic Recreation /Activity Depart-

ments!

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Social was held back in April and approximately 115 of our won-derful volunteers attended. As an update, OFRA is blessed with 275 volunteers, of which approximately 165

help every month between all 3 buildings!! “Volunteers are priceless” to us here at OFRA and we thank you again for all of your time and efforts throughout the year! Thank you as well to the following businesses/individuals who donated items we gave as door prizes – we truly appreciate your support!

Vuosittainen Vapaaehtoistyöntekijöiden Juhlatilaisuus pidettiin huhtikuussa ja noin 115 työntekijää osallistui tilaisuutemme. Tällä hetkellä meillä on joukos-samme 275 vapaaehtoista,joista 165 auttaa kuukausittain kolme ra-kennuksemme välillä! Vapaaehtoiset ovat meille korvaamattomia ja kiitämme jälleen kaikkia heidän panoksestaan kuluneen vuoden aikana. Kiitos myös seuraaville liikekumppanilleen ja henkilöille heidän lahjoituksistaan.

ENTOMICA was here again!! The Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival held at the end of April, brought their “Science for Seniors” presentation and dis-play for us a second year to enjoy! Many residents from all 3 buildings, as well as staff and OFRA BOD’s, came to the KOT lobby and were able to view, hold, and learn about several exotic bugs from around the world.

Thank you to Science North and John Dedes, and his volunteer crew, for all their efforts to promote life-long learning!!

ENTOMICA kävi jälleen esiintymässä. SSM Tiedetapahtuma oli huhtikuun lopussa, meille järjestettiin "Tidettä senioreille" tilaisuus jo toista kertaa. Asukkaat sekä kiinnostuneet työntekijät kaikista rakennuksistamme saivat mahdollisuuden osallistua ja tutustua erilaisiin hyönteisiin joita oli esillä eri maista ympäri

maailman. Kiitos Sience North, John Dedes ja hänen apulaiselleen heidän työstään elinikäisen op-pimisen puolesta.

Sharron Valli played her accordion for our Vappu celebration – thank you to her and to the staff who came out to dance! John Gearey, author of “East of Superior” came to do a book reading in early May and the “Senior Singers” came to entertain for our Mother’s Day party. We have had several other choirs as well – the “Elks and Royal Purple Singers”, the “Algoma Festival Choir”, as well as the “Algoma Trad” - come and sing for us in the past few months – thank you to all of them, as these groups are quite large in numbers! Our last pub until

Sept. was held on May 26th – thank you to Northern Superior Brew-

ing Co. for their sponsorship!!

Lauri Monto and the Ki-wedin Kids (SK/Gr. 1) are done their KOT inter-generational visits until Sept., and they and the residents, really enjoyed the magic show we had for them in June, by Aardvark the Magician!!

But the Jessie Irving Daycare children plan on join-ing us all summer long, hope-fully for outdoor fun with the nicer weather!!

Lauri Monto ja Kiwedin Kids pitävät taukoa vierailuistaan syyskuun alkuun asti. Järjestimme heille taikatemppu esityksen kesäkuussa, esiintyjänä Aardvark the Magician. Esitys oli kaik-kien mieleen. Jessie Irwing Daycare lapset käyvät ilahduttamassa meitä myös kesäkuukausina ja toivottavasti voimme pitää hauskaa ulkona sään salliessa.

JUHANNUS säämmme oli jälleen upea! Emme olis voineet toivoa hienompaa päivää! Ehkä hieman viileämpää , mutta emme voi valittaa. Kiitos, kiitos, kiitos taas kaikille vapaaehtoisille.

Koristelijoille , lipunmyyjille, grillaajille, viihdyttäjille ja kaikille jotka osallistuivat omalla panoksellaan! EMME SELVIÄISI ILMAN APUANNE!!! Suurkiitos myös henkilökun-nalle joka osallistui avullaan. Kesäkuun 24 on päivä, jolloin me kaikki erityisesti ponnistelemme asukkaittemme viihtyvyyden eteen.

JUHANNUS was again, and thankfully, blessed with beautiful weather!! We could not have asked for a better day – maybe cooler though – it was warm, but we won’t complain! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the volunteers – from the morning & evening decorators and un-decorators, the ticket sellers, BBQ’ers, entertain-ers, costume wearers, and booth operators, etc., etc., etc. - WE CANNOT DO IT ALL WITHOUT YOUR HELP!!!! A big thank you again to all staff, in all departments, who helped out today – if ever there is a day where we ALL come together for the residents, June 24th is definitely one of them!
