Honoring their legacy in 2014...

His name was Houston. Her name was Morgan. They were twin

brother and sister, born three months prematurely September 7,

2011, to Birmingham couple Seth and Elizabeth McCoin. At birth

Morgan weighed 1 pound 5 ounces; Houston weighed 2 pounds

1 ounce. Their lives are measured not by the number of days or

months they lived—Houston, four days; Morgan, nine months—

but by their lasting impact. Their parents shared the babies’ jour-

ney through an internet blog, Our Miracle Morgan, and they were

stunned and moved as people from 20 countries began reading

the blog. Many reported how the babies’ lives inspired and changed

them, gave them hope. In 2012, the UAB School of Nursing Junior

Board of Visitors (JBOV) decided to establish a graduate pediatric

nursing scholarship in Houston and Morgan’s memory with pro-

ceeds from the annual No-Show Ball event. The challenge was met

with overwhelming support from the Birmingham community, and

we are well on our way to reaching our ultimate goal of $250,000.

To date $180,000 has been raised in Houston and Morgan’s mem-

ory, which sets our fundraising goal for 2014 at $70,000. Please

join in supporting No-Show Ball 2014 and honor the lives of the

precious McCoin babies while positively impacting our community

for generations to come.
