FMS 6.1 Program Updates

• Issue

– Thousands of procedures have been removed from the

FMS navigation database as a result of incorrect turns

performed by the FMS

• Actions

– Pull procedures from the Nav Database

– Provide fix in software in the FMZ6.1 software only

– GCC requests that Honeywell provide a solution to solve FMS procedure

removals without doing a FMZ6.1platform upgrade

• One of the main reason's for this is not all NZ2000 platforms (i.e. IC-615) will be

able to upgrade to NZ6.1

• Key Features of FMS 6.1• WAAS-LPV, lower minimums

• RNP capability

• VNAV Temp Compensation

• Vectors to Final Approach

• Improved crossload /download time custom DB

• Circling Approaches

• Multi RNAV Approaches per Runway

• TAP records (output for chart linking)

• Magnetic Variation Update

• Auto HA Sequencing

• En route Holding Patterns

• Barometric VNAV Correction

• GPS Seconds display

DUAL Mode Failure – FMZ6.1

• Issue

– NZ6.1 will drop into SINGLE mode when operating in the

Hong Kong region. Occurs when in DUAL or INITIATED

XFER, and appears to only occur when specific terminal

area procedures are loaded

• Corrective Action

– Limited to flight plans that contain RNP procedures (either

requiring approval or standard) and one of the following

waypoint types: arc legs, holds, procedure turns

– FMS will recover to DUAL once the waypoints/procedure types are not in the flight plan

– Determine root cause

– Document via a SIL

– Provide solution

• Status

– Root cause confirmed to be software anomaly in NZ6.1

– SIL D201403000110 released to document issue (May 2014)

– Bombardier has documented via Advisory Wire AW700-34-0468 (March 2014)

– To be addressed in a future NZ6.1 certification

scratchpad messages even though the IRS was within the position error limitations

• Corrective Action

– Determine root cause

– Document via a SIL

– Provide solution

• Status

– Root cause confirmed to be software anomaly in NZ6.1

– SIL D201402000085 released (March 2014)

FAA SAIB HQ-14-58

• Issue

– SAIB HQ-14-58 released August 26, 2014 to notify

operators that some approach procedures are coded

with a descent angle of ‘0’ (zero) resulting in unexpected

FMS behavior

• Corrective Action

– Review all Honeywell FMS systems for impact

– Provide solution if any impact is found

– Provide SIL to document results of investigation

• Status

– EPIC and FMZ2000 system will disregard the ‘0’ and use the default angle.

Research is ongoing to verify if this has any negative consequences. SIL

expected 4Q2014 to document results

Inmarsat SGSN Upgrade

• Issue:– Last year Inmarsat announced a change in the “Serving

General Packet Radio Service Support Node” (SGSN) of the

I4 satellite system for SwiftBroadBand (SBB). Done to

improve data efficiency and to enable roll-out of new services

– Once activated, the SBB systems will not be able to

conduct simultaneous Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP)

calls and Internet browsing. When attempted, the High

Speed Unit will refuse the second connection and “lock-up,”

requiring a power reset

• Action:– Customers are encouraged to download the SB and then

order the Customer Product Kit (CPK) associated with the

SB to obtain software on CD-ROM and the required label

• Status:– SGSN Upgrade Update: Honeywell has released the Service

Bulletins (SBs) for all Honeywell Inmarsat Swift Broadband

(SBB) High Speed Data Terminals. The SBs and Software

are available for download on the Satcom Support Portal at:

https://ads.honeywell.com/webforms?application=EMS

Alphasat Update

• Honeywell has released Service Information Letter (SIL)

D201310000093 regarding the introduction of the Alphasat Satellite

over Europe and its impact on the function of our Satcom Systems

• Satcom Service Providers may also be publishing communications for

their customers, such as the one from Satcom Direct® : SIL-ISA-002-R2

available on their support site

• Alphasat will replace the original I4 Satellite currently covering Europe,

the Middle East, and Asia

• Alphasat will improve SBB throughput in the busiest regions of the

North Atlantic by means of improved digital signal processing

• An additional 7MHz of L-Band spectrum allows future feature

enhancements not currently provided by Inmarsat

• Operators not using I4 services need do nothing to their Satcom

Systems, however, some Terminals will require ORT/software changes.

• The HSD-400 and Aspire 200 Satcom Systems do not require updates

to utilize Alphasat

Page 20: No Slide Titleapp.compendium.com/uploads/user/1426dd69-f9a2-42a2-9845-c74cc946e1...Inmarsat SGSN Upgrade • Issue: – Last year Inmarsat announced a change in the “Serving General

Alphasat Update, Continued

• Below is a Table of the Terminal equipment affected, and specific SB required

for each:

• The “go live” date for Alphasat “Classic Aero” and SBB service has been

pushed to March 2015, allowing operators to perform the necessary upgrades

to support operation.

• Honeywell recommends operators contact their Satcom Service Providers for

the latest information, and an updated ORT, if required, for Alphasat

implementation.

Beijing SAS Update

• The last official date for activation of the Beijing Satellite Access Station

(SAS) was mid-July 2014

• Inmarsat will force route SBB traffic through the Beijing SAS when flying

in Chinese airspace

• Upon entering, or departing Chinese airspace, the Satcom Terminal will

respond by logging off then back onto the SBB network, and

applications will re-establish context

• Tests performed using the London SAS indicated our Terminals will

accommodate the Beijing SAS, once activated
