Second line:The date of the SW release.Third line:NHE-8 has something to do with the type of phone you are dealing with.Is it GSM 900 (standard), GSM 1800 (DCS1800) or GSM 1900 (PCS1900)?Nokia 2110, 3110, 8110(i) are all NHE types. The only thing that vary is the code after NHE- ("8").NHE = GSM 900, NHK =GSM 1800 - The number in the end = the model (2110i = 4 etc.)The 5110 and 6110 is called NSE-1 and NSE-3...this may be because it supports EFR (?)Software update, how?I have been asked a lot about how to update the software in Nokia 3110.The only thing to do (for you and me) is for us to go to the nearest Nokia

*#746025625# [*#sim0clock#] to check if the Sim-Clock can be Stopped(Sim-clock-stop is a kind of standby mode which will save battery time)

*#92702689# [*#war0anty#] Warranty code.Menu:1: Displays Serial Number.2: Displays the Month and Year of Manufacture (0997)3: Displays (if there) the date where the phone was purchased (MMYY)you can here set the Purchasing Date (Warning: You can only do this once -so be careful what you write...)4: Displays the date of the last repairment - if found (0000)6: Does anyone know if this is for upgrading the phone's EEPROM?? The Service provider (SP) lock is used to lock the cell phone to theSP's SIM card. Once the cell phone is locked to a specific operator, if oneinserts a SIM card from a different operator the phone will refuse to accept it!The cell phone will however accept another SIM card from the same operator. All Nokia phones (2110 and newer) have four different SIM locks which can be usedto lock the phone for upto 4 different providers. But most phones with restriction onlyhave one lock activated. ( lock 1)The main code used in Nokia phones is:#pw+(master code)+Y#This code is able to check, activate or remove Sim card restriction (SP-lock).Use the * key to get the p, + and w chars.'Y' has to be 1,2,3 or 4 - depending of what lock you what to deal with.#pw+1234567890+1# for Provider-Lock status#pw+1234567890+2# for Network-Lock status#pw+1234567890+3# for Provider(???)-Lock status#pw+1234567890+4# for SimCard-Lock status(master code) is a 10 digit code, based on the phones IMEI number.(I can NOT give you the master code - SO DON'T ASK ME FOR IT !!!!!!!)

Ex: To remove restriction on lock 1 type following code:#pw+(master code)+1#If you just want to check your phone use 10 random numbers Eg. 1234567890as the (master code)eg. To check if phone if restricted on lock 1 type the following code:#pw+1234567890+1#

Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR):On: Enter *3370# and EFR will be activated after a reboot of the phone ( consumes more power )Off: Enter #3370# and EFR will be switched off after a reboot of the phone.Half Rate Codec:On: Enter *4720# and Half Rate coded will be activated after a reboot of the phone ( better standby time )Off: Enter #4720# and Half Rate coded will be de-activated after a reboot of the phoneEnhanced Full Rate will give you much better sound quality when you enable it. The new Enhanced Full Rate CODEC adopted by GSM uses the ASELP (AlgebraicCode Excitation Linear Prediction) compression technology. This technology allows for much great voice quality in the same number of bits as the older Full Rate CODEC. The older technology was called LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13 kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more) - Talk-time is reduced with about 5%Half Rate will give you bad soundquality, which gives the serviceprovider the opportunity to have more calls on the network, and you might get a lower charge from them. - Will give you 30% longer talk-time.

Tips & infoPower Button Tip:If you press the button for a short moment, the menu with the profiles is shown on the display. If you press one more time, the mobile turns itself off. You can use the up and down cursor keysto scroll and enable a different alert setting. The 54# Tip:

Smartmassaging with Nokia 6110.With the tone 36 you can get another ringing tone via Smartmassaging ( 8110i )First you must have a 8110i, next order a new ringington with your SIM-Cardin the 8110i, select one and order via SMS, if your SMS was send succesfullyou must turn off your 8110i. Take your SIM from the 8110i into the 6110 andswitch it on. After a few seconds you receive a SMS (The new ringing tone).Read the SMS and you can hear your new tone in the menu as tone 36.Another way of doing it (the easy way when it comes to all...)As far as I know, this perticular procedure only works with the 6110.Also note that some network operators does not allow you to makeinternational calls without first paying a deposit, and this system isin Finland. Before changing the SMS Centre number, you also might want to writethe old number down.In "short" here's what you do. Looks complicated, but once you've gotthe message template, you're rockin'.1) Change the SMS Centre Number from whatever you've got now to+3584052029992) Send an SMS message with word TONES to number 99999Have a very small cup of coffee while waiting for TWO messages to bereceived by your phone (There'll be more if you've got deliveryreports ON). These messages are two parts of a list of melodies, andthe first message is used as a template to request a melody. Keying itin manually takes forever, and never worked for me. You could lookthrough both of them and write down all the melody names and thenerase the second message.3) Trim the first message down. When you receive it, it'll looksomething like this:tones><Vconf:beeps.conf><Vnumber:+441234567890Select ringtone>.filename.>figaro1>*flute>*hungaria>*hungary2>*jbells>*larry>*liberty>*mozart3The message ca be trimmed down to:tones><Vconf:beeps.conf><Vnumber:+441234567890Select ringtone>.filename.>figaro1..and saved it. ("+441234567890" above is just an example number. Onyour phone it'll be your number)4) Now that you have this saved template, all you have to do is openthe message, edit it and replace the "figaro1" melody name withwhichever melody you want to download.5) An example message to send for requesting the Monthy Python' FlyingCircus Theme which is the "libery" melody would be:tones

Page 5: NOKIA PHONES Secret Codes

><Vconf:beeps.conf><Vnumber:+441234567890Select ringtone>.filename.>liberty6) After you've sent this message and gone back to the main screen, you should be notified that the phone has received a ring tone, andyou can listen to it, save it or discard it.7) If you saved it, it'll appear as ring tone number 36 in the list(to not include this in the name!List of melodies:______________________________________figaro1          (Probably something from Figaro's Wedding)flute              (Misc from Mozart's Magic Flute)hungaria        (Not tried it)hungary2       (Not tried it)jbells             (Jingle Bells)larry               (Leisure Suit Larry)liberty            (Monthy Python theme)mozart3         (Not tried it)nacht             (Not tried it)nutchin          (Not tried it)nutfair            (Not tried it)nutmarch       (Not tried it)nuttrep          (Not tried it)nutwltz          (Not tried it)sonatac         (Not tried it)star               (Stars'n Stripes?)washpost       (A march :-)Listen to the melodies (in mp3)before Download the tone with your Nokia Mobile...(The files are missing at the moment..but they will be here soon, sorry!)Figaro1(131 Kb) NutChin(58 Kb)Flute(122 Kb) NutFair(105 Kb)Hungaria(174 Kb) NutMarch(88 Kb)Hungary2(97 Kb) NutTrep(87 Kb)JBells(101 Kb) NutWltz(116 Kb)Larry(167 Kb) Sonatac(137 Kb)Liberty(113 Kb) Star(131 Kb)Mozart3(145 Kb) Washpost(115 Kb)Nacht(124 Kb)Get the best Mp3 Player here: WinAmp NullSoft,Inc.THANKS goes to Espen Lyngaas --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Other new Ringing tones.Send an SMS to +27833215111 (MTN Subscribers) or +27823215111 (Vodacom Subscribers)in the following format: (Subscribers outside South Africa can send to either number)Format: RT*NAME eg. It also seems that theSMS volume is linked to the ringing volume. i.e. if the I set ringing level 1the SMS alert is quiet and so on.An improvement: The 'No Service' areas between cells seem to have disappeared. When the phone does go 'No Service', it will very quickly log onto a new cell, usually within a few seconds. A great improvement from the last. (1 - 2 minutes)Because of this I hope to see an improvement in battery life as the phone is not goingon to full power to try and find a cell to log on to.Ever the less: The buzzing in the earpiece is still present. The desktop charger now works correctly when the phone is inserted with thebattery connected.A bug: when editing a sms the cursor is one character more to the right on

the display! In other places, e.g. the phonebook, everythingis normal! thoughA problem with Nokia Data Suite 1.2 (NDS). The infra red function has nowgone intermittent. I have confirmed this by using a V3.14 phone whichworks perfectly with my installed version of the NDS. Basically if I connect the phoneusing the RS232 cable the NDS works fine. If I then disconnect and re-connedctusing IR, also no problem. If I then disconnect and re-connect a 2nd time using Ir I getno connection. The Ir symbol on the phone flashes, then goes static, then flashes again.Nokia are looking into this for me.Thanks goes to Dody Soehardy and some other guys. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tips & infoThe 54# Tip:T
