Important: Do not use a mini-UICC SIMcard, also known as a micro-SIM card, a micro-SIM card with an adapter, or a SIM card thathas a mini-UICC cutout (see figure) in thisdevice. A micro SIM card is smaller than thestandard SIM card. This device does notsupport the use of micro-SIM cards and use ofincompatible SIM cards may damage the cardor the device, and may corrupt data stored onthe card.

Your device may have internal and externalantennas. Avoid touching the antenna areaunnecessarily while the antenna istransmitting or receiving. Contact withantennas affects the communication qualityand may cause a higher power level duringoperation and may reduce the battery life.

General information


i) You can send text messages that are longerthan the character limit for a single message.Longer messages are sent as two or moremessages. Your service provider may chargeaccordingly.

Characters with accents, other marks, or somelanguage options, take more space, and limitthe number of characters that can be sent in asingle message.

ii) To listen to the radio, you need to attach acompatible headset to the device. The headsetacts as an antenna.

iii) Do not shine the flashlight in anyone'seyes.

iv) Sending and receiving messages in somelanguages is a network service. Foravailability, contact your service provider.Send messages only to devices that supportthe selected language.

Network services and costsYour device is approved for use on the (E)GSM900 and 1800 MHz networks.

To use the device, you need a subscriptionwith a service provider.

Using network services and downloadingcontent to your device requires a networkconnection and may result in data traffic costs.Some product features require support fromthe network, and you may need to subscribeto them.

Take care of your deviceHandle your device, battery, charger andaccessories with care. The followingsuggestions help you protect your warrantycoverage.• Keep the device dry. Precipitation,humidity, and all types of liquids or moisturecan contain minerals that corrode electroniccircuits. If your device gets wet, remove thebattery, and allow the device to dry.• Do not use or store the device in dusty ordirty areas. RecycleAlways return your used electronic products,batteries, and packaging materials todedicated collection points. This way you helpprevent uncontrolled waste disposal andpromote the recycling of materials.

Crossed-out wheeled-bin symbol

The crossed-out wheeled-bin symbol on yourproduct, battery, literature, or packagingreminds you that all electrical and electronicproducts, batteries, and accumulators must betaken to separate collection at the end of theirworking life. Batteries and chargersBattery and charger informationYour device is intended for use with a BL-5Jrechargeable battery. Nokia may makeadditional battery models available for thisdevice. Always use original Nokia batteries.

This device is intended for use when suppliedwith power from the following chargers:AC-3. The exact Nokia charger model numbermay vary depending on the plug type,identified by E, X, AR, U, A, C, K, or B.

The battery can be charged and dischargedhundreds of times, but it will eventually wearout. When the talk and standby times arenoticeably shorter than normal, replace thebattery.

Battery safetyAlways switch the device off and disconnectthe charger before removing the battery.When you unplug a charger or an accessory,hold and pull the plug, not the cord.


When your charger is not in use, unplug it fromthe electrical plug and the device. Do not leavea fully charged battery connected to a charger,as overcharging may shorten the battery’slifetime. If left unused, a fully charged batterywill lose its charge over time.

Always keep the battery between 15°C and25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme temperaturesreduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery.A device with a hot or cold battery may notwork temporarily.

Accidental short-circuiting can happen when ametallic object touches the metal strips on thebattery, for example, if you carry a sparebattery in your pocket. Short-circuiting maydamage the battery or the connecting object.

Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they mayexplode. Dispose of batteries according tolocal regulations. Recycle when possible. Donot dispose as household waste.

Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush, bend,puncture, or shred cells or batteries. If abattery leaks, do not let battery liquid touchskin or eyes. If this happens, immediately flushthe affected areas with water, or seek medicalhelp.

Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt toinsert foreign objects into the battery, orimmerse or expose it to water or other liquids.Batteries may explode if damaged.

Use the battery and charger for their intendedpurposes only. Improper use, or use of

unapproved batteries or incompatiblechargers may present a risk of fire, explosion,or other hazard, and may invalidate anyapproval or warranty. If you believe thebattery or charger is damaged, take it to aservice centre for inspection beforecontinuing to use it. Never use a damagedbattery or charger. Only use the chargerindoors.

Implanted medical devicesManufacturers of medical devices recommenda minimum separation of 15.3 centimetres (6inches) between a wireless device and animplanted medical device, such as apacemaker or implanted cardioverterdefibrillator, to avoid potential interferencewith the medical device. Persons who havesuch devices should:• Always keep the wireless device morethan 15.3 centimetres (6 inches) from themedical device.• Not carry the wireless device in a breastpocket.• Hold the wireless device to the earopposite the medical device.• Turn the wireless device off if there is anyreason to suspect that interference is takingplace.

Operating environmentThis device meets radio frequency exposureguidelines in the normal use position at theear or at least 1.5 centimetres (5/8 inch) awayfrom the body. Any carry case, belt clip, orholder for body-worn operation should notcontain metal and should position the devicethe above-stated distance from your body.

To send data files or messages requires aquality connection to the network. Data filesor messages may be delayed until such aconnection is available. Follow the separationdistance instructions until the transmission iscompleted.

VehiclesRadio signals may affect improperly installedor inadequately shielded electronic systems inmotor vehicles such as electronic fuelinjection, electronic antilock braking,

Certification information (SAR)Your mobile device is a radio transmitter andreceiver. It is designed not to exceed the limitsfor exposure to radio waves recommended byinternational guidelines. These guidelineswere developed by the independent scientificorganisation ICNIRP and include safetymargins designed to assure the protection ofall persons, regardless of age and health.

The exposure guidelines for mobile devicesemploy a unit of measurement known as theSpecific Absorption Rate or SAR. The SAR limitstated in the ICNIRP guidelines is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10 grams oftissue.
