The following students represent the December Boomerang Youth Recognition Award district-wide recipients for Asset #17 Creative Activities. Young person participates in creative activities which have a direct positive impact on him/her and others. Their creative activity can take a variety of forms- music, drama, art, writing, or any other creative activity.

Congratulations to these students and ALL the students who were nominated for this Asset. January’s Asset is #9 Service to Others. Young person values service to others, in their family, school, or community. He/she commits to meaningful and caring actions.

Nominations are due to the student’s school by Friday, January 17th.

High School: High School: High School: High School: Jamie Kassa, 12th grade

CB South.

Jamie is the epitome of creativity as she is an active member of two activities/clubs at South-the high school literature and art magazine and the creative writing club. She uses various forms of the writing “medium” to craft and develop her skill. She has created several online writing communities that have hun-dreds (one with thousands) of followers. She encourages other students to develop their writing - she supports them as they draft their work, offering helpful suggestions, while en-couraging them to participate in the creative offerings at South. The students in her creative writing class often ask her to share her work with them, while seeking feedback on their own work. She never turns them down for either request. In addition, she does not hesitate to combine her beautiful singing/voice with her writing; many have been fortunate to witness this talent.

Middle School: Middle School: Middle School: Middle School: Aubrielle Kratz, 8th grade

Lenape MS

Aubrielle is involved in a variety of creative activities with her intent “to be an instrument” to encourage, inspire, lift up, and help others in their everyday lives—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She is strongly committed to her ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance classes several hours a week. Her dance school performs original ballets and musicals which are incredibly uplifting and also raise money for people in need; an example is “Come-Unity” which digs fresh water wells in Africa. She has performed in several church musicals which encouraged children in handling life struggles and learning about their individual worth and value. She continually invites others to come to her Youth Group; she truly cares about others and wants to see them make good healthy choices. Aubrielle uses her strong faith and talent to encourage others through dance, acting, singing, and personal interaction.

Elementary: Elementary: Elementary: Elementary: Liam Petersen, 2nd grade,

Barclay Elementary

Liam has used art as a way of letting his loved ones know how he feels since he was very young. He especially enjoys making cards, pictures, and paintings. He also uses his love of drawing as an outlet when he is feeling especially excited, sad, or anxious. This past summer, Liam invited family members to an art auction at his home which raised funds for Toys for Tots. Liam and his younger sister made sketches and paintings on canvas and titled and signed each work of art. They carefully thought about the subject they painted so they would interest their guests. Family members viewed and purchased the works of art. Liam was able to raise $250.00 for Toys for Tots thanks to the generosity of family members. Not only did Liam enjoy creating the pieces of art, but he loved how he felt after making a difference in the lives of less fortunate children.

National Drug Facts Week Launched in 2010 by the

National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the

National Institutes of

Health. To counteract the myths that young people

get from the internet, TV, movies, music, or from

friends, NIDA scientists encourage local communities to SHATTER THE MYTHS about drugs and drug abuse.

The facts are these: About a third of high school seniors report using an illicit drug sometime in the

past year; more than 10% report nonmedical use of

potentially addictive prescription painkillers, and more than 20 % report smoking marijuana in the past

month. Many teens are not aware of the risks to their

health, to their success in school, and the dangers while driving under the influence. When teens are

given the scientific facts about drugs, they can be

better prepared to make good decisions for them-selves, and they can share this information with

others.

Why not have a conversation about the facts, with

teens you know and love? Visit www.drugabuse.gov for more

Y2C performers were out and about in December, performing at Wesley Enhanced Living , The Central Bucks Family YMCA, The Zen Den Coffee Boutique, The Doylestown Bookshop, the Plumstead-ville Inn, and Pine Run. We are so proud of “one of our own,” Aubreylyn Zazyczny, who had her CD Release Party in Philadelphia at a very well-known performance venue. Congrats Aubreylyn! We are looking forward to students performing at our MLK Day of Service Opening Ceremony on Monday morning, January 20th, between 8:30-9:30 a.m. Please do come out and join friends and neighbors as we remind ourselves of the importance of serving others in our community.

Our monthly performance at The Plumsteadville Inn
