Alex Fraser Bridge Responsible for the geotechnical input for the Alex Fraser cable- Vancouver, BC stayed highway bridge over the main arm of the Fraser River, including site investigation, evaluation of subsoil conditions, pile driving and loading tests, analyses, and recommendations for the foundation design of the bridge, including underwater and shoreline densification of soils to minimise the risk of liquefaction due to earthquakes.

Fairview Terminal Port Extension Responsible for the geotechnical aspects of site selection, preliminary and Prince Rupert, BC final design, and response to geotechnical queries during construction of a 200Dm long concrete caisson wharf extension for ocean-going ships and associated back oup lands, including assessment of seismic effects on the various structures.

Queensborough Bridge Directed and reviewed detailed geotechnical evaluation of the expected New Westminster, BC performance of the Queensborough Bridge foundations under seismic shaking as part of a seismic retrofit study. The study included recommending foundation retrofit measures to reduce the risk of seismic damage and also making foundation recommendations for widening the existing bridge or, alternatively, building a new bridge alongside the present bridge.

Cassiar Highway Tunnel Responsible for the geotechnical investigation, analysis, recommendations Vancouver, BC for foundation design, and periodic construction services of the 750-m long cut and cover highway tunnel in dense glacial drift. The design included consideration of seismic effects on the structure.

Squamish Terminals Deep Provided geotechnical investigation, analysis, and design recommendations Sea Dock for a 200-m long, single berth, piled ship dock constructed on deep deltaic Squamish, BC silts, sands, and gravel. The design included consideration of the effects of seismic forces on the facility, including liquefaction potential.

Vedder Canal Bridges Reviewed the geotechnical investigation and analysis of seismic response of Chilliwack, BC five Highway No. 1 bridges in the vicinity of Vedder Canal, including recommendations for remedial measures to enhance bridge foundation performance in a seismic event.

Second Narrows Bridge Reviewed the geotechnical appraisal of the response of the foundations of Vancouver, BC the Second Narrows highway bridge to a seismic event as part of a seismic retrofit study. The main portion of the bridge is founded on piles on the

Kemano Completion Switchyard Reviewed the detailed seismic response analysis of the subsoil conditions at Kitimat, BC the proposed switchyard for the Kemano Completion Project under both the 475Dyear return and the maximum credible earthquake (MCE) scenarios.

Delta Municipal Hall Provided geotechnical investigation and review of the seismic implications Delta, BC on the foundations of this 1960s two-storey building built on loose to compact Fraser River sands.

Hydroelectric Transmission Tower Provided geotechnical investigation, analysis and review of the seismic Kitimat, BC response of the piled foundations for a new hydroelectric transmission tower founded on the deep sediments of the Kitimat River delta.

Alaska Highway Conducted a preliminary geotechnical assessment of anticipated seismic Yukon Territory effects on four existing 1940s and 1950s bridges along the Yukon section of the Alaska Highway. The bridges were the Hyland River Bridge, Nisutlin Bay Bridge, Teslin River Bridge, and Slims River Bridge.

Donjek River Bridge Geotechnical review for the replacement of the existing Donjek River bridge Yukon Territory at km. 1822 on the Yukon section of the Alaska highway. The bridge is located on a wide braided river in a high seismic area.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE - BRIDGES:

Alex Fraser Bridge Responsible for the geotechnical design input including site investigation, Vancouver, BC evaluation of subsoil conditions, pile driving and loading tests, analyses, and the provision of recommendations for the foundation design of the bridge, including underwater and shoreline densification of soils to minimise the risk of liquefaction due to earthquakes. The project is a major, high-level, six-lane, cable-stayed highway bridge (465-m long main span) over the main arm of the Fraser River.

Confederation Bridge Participated as one of three persons on Golder Associates’ internal New Brunswick to geotechnical review committee on the foundations of the 12.9-km long, Prince Edward Island multi-span Confederation Bridge across Northumberland Strait between Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Second Narrows Bridge Reviewed the geotechnical appraisal of the response of the foundations of Vancouver, BC the Second Narrows highway bridge to a seismic event as part of a seismic retrofit study. The project was a multi-span road bridge across the Thompson River at the Lafarge Cement plant site, 20 km east of Kamloops, BC.

Arthur Laing Bridge Responsible for the geotechnical investigation and study for a seismic safety Richmond, BC retrofit for the 1970s-era Arthur Laing four-lane, multi-span highway bridge over predominantly soft sediments on the approach to Vancouver International Airport on Sea Island, Richmond. Improvement of the foundation soils was carried out using driven timber compaction piles and installation of vibro-compaction stone columns.

Bridge B1/40 Geotechnical review of foundation movement and river bank instability on Trinidad highway bridge B1/40 under construction at Pierreville in eastern Trinidad in the West Indies.

Okanagan Bridge Input to the geotechnical aspects of the anchor system for the Okanagan Kelowna, BC floating bridge.

Semarang Bridges Geotechnical advice and foundation recommendations provided for ten Indonesia highway bridges on four ring roads being constructed near the City of Semarang in north central Java, Indonesia.

Coal River Bridge Review of design recommendations for a replacement bridge over the Coal Alaska Highway, BC River at km. 823 on the Alaska Highway in British Columbia.

Trout River Bridge Geotechnical investigation, analysis, and foundation design Alaska Highway, BC recommendations for a new bridge to replace the 1940s-era bridge over Trout River on the Alaska Highway in British Columbia.

South Channel Bridge Geotechnical advice on the cofferdam considerations for a replacement Unalaska Island, AK highway bridge on Unalaska Island, southwest Alaska.

Mission Bridge Participated in a two-day value engineering appraisal of the proposed Mission, BC seismic upgrade of the existing multi-span highway bridge across the Fraser River at Mission, BC.

Arrow Lakes/Needles Bridge Provided geotechnical advice from the owner’s point of view during the Needles, BC preliminary and final design of the proposed 1 km. long two lane highway bridge across the Arrow Lakes at Needles 60 m south of Nakusp in south central British Columbia.

Pitt River Bridge Replacement Reviewed geotechnical aspects of replacement of the present two low level Vancouver, BC (swing) bridges across the Pitt River between Coquitlam and Pitt Meadows, BC (Highway No. 7) by a single high level bridge.

Port Mann Bridge Conceptual geotechnical input to a proposed twinning of the existing Port Vancouver, BC Mann highway bridge over the Fraser River in Vancouver, BC.

Thompson River Bridge Provided geotechnical investigation and analysis, foundation Ashcroft, BC recommendations, and periodic review of foundation construction for a highway bridge across the Thompson River at Ashcroft, BC.

Needles Bridge Conducted a site investigation for a proposed bridge structure across the Needles, BC Columbia River at Needles, BC. Detailed pile loading tests on long pipe piles were carried out on both river banks, and final recommendations were made for the foundation design of the bridge and also for stability measures for both banks. Artesian pressures occurred in the deep sediments at the crossing site.

Columbia River Bridge Carried out a subsurface investigation, analysed subsurface conditions, and Revelstoke, BC made recommendations for the foundation design of the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline bridge over the Columbia River at Revelstoke, BC.

Grimshire Road Bridge Conducted a geotechnical investigation, analysis, and foundation Merritt, BC recommendations for the Grimshire Road Bridge over the Coquihalla Highway near Merritt, in south-central British Columbia.

Marpole Bridge Responsible for site investigation (onshore and overwater boreholes), Vancouver, BC analysis of subsurface conditions, and recommendations for the foundation support of the swing bridge and approach spans for the Canadian Pacific Railway bridge over the north arm of the Fraser River, from Marpole to Richmond, BC.

Chilliwack Road Bridge Responsible for the detailed geotechnical investigation, analysis, and Chilliwack, BC recommendations for the foundation design of the bridge, including earthquake considerations. Field geotechnical services provided during construction of the bridge foundations and approach embankments including vibro-densification of the subsoil. The project was for an overpass to provide a four-lane, seven-span road bridge into Chilliwack, over the CN Rail mainline.

Highway Bridges Responsible for the geotechnical investigation and foundation Ethiopia recommendations for a number of small highway bridges on the 80-km long Awash-Miesso and the 300-km long Awash-Tendaho highways in the Rift Valley section of eastern Ethiopia.

Highway Bridges Reviewed and made foundation recommendations for four major and four Nepal minor road bridges on the Hetauda-Narayangarh section of the main east- west highway in southern Nepal.

Queensborough Bridge Directed and reviewed detailed geotechnical evaluation of the expected New Westminster, BC performance of the Queensborough bridge foundations under seismic shaking as part of a seismic retrofit study. The study included recommending foundation retrofit measures to reduce the risk of seismic damage and also making foundation recommendations for widening the existing bridge, or, alternatively, building a new bridge alongside the present bridge.

Kaministikuia River Bridge Responsible for site investigation and foundation design recommendations Thunder Bay, ON for a high-level highway bridge over the deeply incised Kaministikuia River at the south approaches to Thunder Bay, Ontario.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE - PORT, HARBOUR AND SHORELINE DEVELOPMENTS:

Mr. McCammon has been involved in the geotechnical aspects of a wide variety of port, harbour, and shoreline developments in differing foundation settings in Canada and internationally, including seismically active areas. He has provided input and advice on over 100 projects. Typical project experience includes:

Centennial Pier Responsible for geotechnical investigation, analysis, and foundation Vancouver, BC recommendations for final design of a two-concrete-crib westward extension of Centennial Pier (Centerm) container terminal at Vancouver, BC. The project included development of 1.24 hectares of backup land. Golder Associates instrumented the extension to monitor performance and provided on-call services during construction.

Versatile Shipyard Provided geotechnical investigation to evaluate, and recommendations to Esquimalt, BC upgrade, the ship launchway at Versatile Pacific’s Esquimalt, BC Shipyard.

Ballantyne Pier Responsible for geotechnical investigation, detailed analysis, and Vancouver, BC foundation recommendations (including seismic considerations) for the rehabilitation of the 1920s Ballantyne piled deep sea pier in Vancouver as a mixed freight/cruise ship facility.

Bulk Loading Terminal Provided geotechnical investigation for a bulk loading iron ore harbour on Port Cartier, QC the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, 60 km west of the town of Sept isles, Quebec.

LNG Plants Provided geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design recommendations West Coast of BC for proposed LNG plant and ship loading terminals at Grassy Point (near Prince Rupert) and Bish Creek (near Kitimat), on the west coast of British Columbia.

Sewer Effluent Outfall Responsible for the geotechnical investigation, analysis, and geotechnical Kincolith, BC recommendations for a 1.2-km long marine sanitary sewer outfall from the Kincolith sewerage treatment plant on the west coast of British Columbia. Advice provided during construction of the outfall.

Stringer Creek and Review of geotechnical investigations and design recommendations for Tetsa River Bridges replacement of the existing Stringer Creek and Tetsa River bridges at km. Alaska Highway 639 and km. 588, respectively, on the portion of the Alaska Highway in northern BC.

Donjek River Bridge Geotechnical review for the replacement of the existing Donjek River bridge Yukon Territory at km. 1822 on the Yukon section of the Alaska Highway. This bridge is located on a wide braided river in a high seismic zone.

Smith River Bridge Geotechnical review for the replacement of the existing Smith River bridge Yukon Territory at km 792 of the Alaska Highway in the Yukon Territory.

From 1993 to 1999, Norm McCammon was a member of Technical Subcommittee No. 6 (Foundations) and Technical Subcommittee No.4 (Seismic Design) for the development of an updated Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code- CAN/CSA-S6-00. He gave lectures on the foundation section of the CHBDC at five cities extending from Victoria, BC to Winnipeg, MB.

Grain Export Terminal Conducted a detailed geotechnical investigation and provided foundation Prince Rupert, BC recommendations for a world-scale grain export terminal on the northwest corner of Ridley Island near Prince Rupert, BC. On-call and review services during construction of the facility.

Canada Place Responsible for geotechnical investigation for the Pier B-C Development Vancouver, BC Board for the 1980s redevelopment of Pier B-C as a convention and cruise ship facility (Canada Place), including seismic aspects of design.

Oil Transfer Terminal Conducted the geotechnical investigation for an offshore oil transfer Azore Islands terminal at Praia Bay, Terceira Island, in the Azores, approximately 1,200 km off the coast of Portugal.

Grain Export Terminal Responsible for the upgrading of grain storage tanks and rock-filled timber Sorel, QC crib dock facilities for the North American Elevators’ dock at Sorel, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River.

Su-Ao Coal Import Terminal Completed a geotechnical appraisal of a proposed coal unloading dock and Taiwan coal storage yard at Su-Ao on the northeast coast of Taiwan.

LNG Terminal Sites Conducted a preliminary geotechnical review of several alternative west British Columbia coast sites for an LNG terminal.

Iron Ore Transfer Dock Provided geotechnical input for proposed harbour facilities at Moosonee, on Moosonee, ON the southwest shore of James Bay. The purpose of this harbour was to provide transfer facilities for iron ore arriving by barge from the Belcher Islands and continuing south on the Ontario Northland Railway.

Cerro Colorado Export Dock Conducted a preliminary review of port facilities for the proposed Cerro David, Panama Colorado copper mining complex on the Pacific coast of Panama.

Fairview Terminal Responsible for preliminary geotechnical appraisal, preliminary and final Prince Rupert, BC engineering design for expansion of Fairview Terminal in Prince Rupert. On- call services during construction of concrete crib dock and back-up storage yard.

Marine Sewer Outfall Reviewed geotechnical investigation for a 1-km long and 660-mm diameter Barbados, WI marine sewer outfall extending out to sea from the southwest corner of the island of Barbados in the West Indies.

Coal Import Terminal Provided preliminary geotechnical analysis and recommendations for a Hong Kong proposed coal import terminal at Black Point in Hong Kong.

Woodfibre Dock Provided geotechnical investigation of lateral movement of the PECO timber Woodfibre, BC pile wharf at Woodfibre near Squamish, BC.

Pulp Loading Dock Responsible for geotechnical investigation and design recommendations for Squamish, BC the new, deep sea piled marginal wharf for Squamish Terminals Ltd., including seismic aspects of design. Provided on-call and review services during construction of the facility.

Caleta Coloso Dock Prepared geotechnical site investigation drilling specifications and input Chile during construction for the transfer facilities on the Pacific coast of Chile for ore from Escondida copper mine. The dock is located at Coloso, 17 km south of Antofagasta.

Plymouth Dock Evaluated a pile-driving problem at Plymouth dock on the island of Monserrat, West Indies Monserrat in the West Indies.

Coal Harbour Shoreline Geotechnical investigation, analysis, design recommendations, and Vancouver, BC construction inspection for the upgrading of the 1.2-km of shoreline between the Westin Hotel and Canada Place bordering Coal Harbour in Vancouver. The new shoreline dyke is designed to resist moderate to severe earthquake shaking.

Santa Marta Coal Terminal Responsible for geotechnical site investigation drilling specifications and Colombia preliminary foundation design recommendations for a 1.3-km long, offshore piled trestle and associated onshore storage yard for the La Lorna coal terminal near Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast of Col6mbia.

Port of Lirquen Conducted a geotechnical review of dock foundation piling, and of the Chile proposed 14-ha reclaimed log sorting/storage area on the shoreline (Patio La Tasca) near Concepci6n, Chile.

Naden Drydock Geotechnical investigation, analysis, and recommendations for modifera Esquimalt, BC naval dockyard at CFB Esquimalt, including construction of work pits in the floor of the dock.

Collahuasi Copper Export Terminal Responsible for geotechnical site investigation specifications for the Chile proposed Collahuasi copper export terminal at Caleta Patache, 65 km south of lquique on the coast of northern Chile. Site reconnaissance and periodic input on the geotechnical aspects of design and construction. Project completed in 1998.

Benete Port and Terminal Provided geotechnical input to the site investigation and detailed design for Indonesia the proposed Benete port on the island of Sumbawa in Indonesia. The port is being developed as part of the Batu Hijau mining project on this island.

Duke Point Ferry Terminal Responsible for preliminary and detailed geotechnical investigation, Nanaimo, BC analysis, and development of geotechnical design recommendations for the Duke Point ferry terminal near Nanaimo. Periodic input and quality assurance on geotechnical aspects of construction of both the offshore and onshore facilities.

Puttalam Coal Import Port Evaluation of a preliminary offshore geotechnical investigation for a Sri Lanka proposed thermal power station import coal dock near Puttalam, on the west coast of Sri Lanka, and development of a final geotechnical investigation program for this project. The facilities include a 4-km long access trestle to a deep sea coal unloading dock, and a near shore barge transfer dock.

Antamina Port Review of the preliminary geotechnical investigation for the proposed Huarmey, Peru Antamina Copper Concentrate export terminal in Huarmey, Peru, and development of specifications for the final geotechnical investigation. Geotechnical recommendations made for the design of the offshore port facilities, including a piled access trestle and berthing dolphins, and the foundation design of the onshore storage shed and other buildings. On call during construction of this project.

Puerto Bolivar Coal Export Recommendations made for the geotechnical aspects of expansion of the Terminal Puerto Boliver Coal Export Terminal on the Caribbean coast of Col6mbia. Col6mbia Project included dredging of the channel, piling for a second deep sea ship loading berth, and an earthfill/rockfill causeway link to shore.

Red Dog Port Review and advice input for a detailed geotechnical investigation and Alaska, USA design for proposed upgrading of existing Red Dog mine concentrate loading facilities on the Chucki Sea, in northwest Alaska. Project components included a dredge channel, deep sea berthing and loading facilities, and an access trestle connecting these facilities to shore.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE - WATER STORAGE DAMS:

W.A.C. Bennett Earthfill Dam Conducted stability analyses for the 165-m high W.A.C. Bennett earthfill Northeastern BC dam on the Peace River in northeastern BC. The analyses were carried out for regulatory licensing purposes.

Keenleyside Earthfill Dam Investigated reservoir shoreline stability and evaluated glacial till borrow South central BC material quantities for the 58-m high Keenleyside earthfill dam on the Columbia River in south-central BC.

Duncan Lake Reservoir Responsible for foundation investigation, design, and construction services South central BC for an earthfill causeway leading out to an island in the Duncan Lake reservoir in south central BC, and evaluation of the reservoir’s shoreline stability both before and following filling.

Spoliata, Messochora, Chief geotechnical engineer for major 3-year site investigation, analyses, Agios Georgios, and Sykia and design for 25 hydroelectric projects throughout western and northern Greece Greece. Four of these sites (Spoliata, Messochora, Agios Georgios, and Sykia) were taken to final design. Dam heights ranged from 20 to 200 m, and dam types included earthfill, rockfill, concrete gravity, and concrete arch dams. As well as dams, the project involved the geotechnical aspects of powerhouse foundations, tunnels, canals, and evaluation of shoreline stability in the proposed reservoir areas.

Cerro Colorado Conducted a preliminary review, including airphoto evaluation and a site Western Panama visit, of several alternative sites of water supply and tailings impoundment dams at Cerro Colorado near David in western Panama.

Fording River Dams Provided a stability appraisal of five dams in the upper Fording River area of British Columbia BC. Airphoto terrain analysis and a site visit were included in this evaluation.

Legedadi, Gafarsa 1, Provided a dam safety appraisal of three water supply dams for the City of and Gafarsa 3 Addis Ababa in Central Ethiopia. These were the 22-m high Legedadi dam Ethiopia (combined concrete buttress and rockfill dams), Gafarsa 1 (a raised and tied- down masonry gravity dam), and Gafarsa 3 (an earthfill dam).

Kloiya, Diana, Conducted a stability evaluation of the reservoir shorelines of Kloiya, Diana, and Rainbow Dams and Rainbow water supply dams near Prince Rupert, BC. This evaluation was Prince Rupert, BC part of a dam safety review.

Moresby Hydroelectric Reviewed the shotcrete-covered rockfill dam that forms part of the Moresby Queen Charlotte Islands, BC hydroelectric scheme in the Queen Charlotte Islands, BC.

Elsie Lake Hydroelectric Responsible for the geotechnical investigation and seismic stability review of Port Alberni, BC the 22-m high main earthfill and four saddle dams at the Elsie Lake hydroelectric scheme near Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, BC.

Waleach Hydroelectric Provided seismic review and considerations for raising of the 21-m high, Hope, BC zoned earthfill dam at the Waleach hydroelectric scheme near Hope, BC.

Maggie Creek Earthfill Dam Conducted a geotechnical review of the 30-m high Maggie Creek earthfill Carlin, NV water storage dam near Carlin, Nevada and for its subsequent raising to 40 m height.

Sooke Lake, Deception, Provided preliminary geotechnical evaluation of the old earthfill water and Goldstream Dams storage dams in the Greater Victoria Water District and subsequent detailed Victoria, BC study, including field drilling and test pitting, of the 9-m high Goldstream Dam. Development of an upgrade scheme to seismically strengthen Goldstream Dam.

Sawra Kuddu and Provided geotechnical input to the feasibility study for the dams for these Baspa I Hydroelectric Dams proposed hydroelectric projects in the Indian Himalayas, in the State of India Himachal Pradesh. Sawra Kuddu is planned to be a 15-m high barrage, while Baspa I is to be a 180-m high earthfill dam.

The design included consideration of seismic effects on the structure. Recommendations were also made for an associated cut and cover bus loop.

Awash-Miesso Highway Geotechnical engineer responsible for the investigation, analysis, and Ethiopia submission of final design recommendation for the 80-km long Awash to Miesso Highway in the Rift Valley area of eastern Ethiopia. The road included eleven small bridges and five culverts.

Awash-Tendaho Highway Responsible for geotechnical aspects of preliminary design of the 300-km Ethiopia long Awash to Tendaho River Highway along the general alignment of the Awash River in eastern Ethiopia. The work included a detailed airphoto interpretation (terrain analysis) along the road corridor and sinking of boreholes and test pits within this corridor. Preliminary recommendations were made on the geotechnical aspects of road location and design.

Don Mills Road Provided geotechnical investigation and design recommendations for a 2.5- Toronto, ON km extension to Don Mills Road in Toronto.

Grimshire Road Bridge Provided geotechnical investigation, analysis, and foundation Merritt, BC recommendations for the Grimshire Road Bridge over the Coquihalla Highway near Merritt, in south-central British Columbia.

Hetanda-Narayangarth Highway Provided specialist geotechnical review and input to the 80-km long Nepal Hetanda Narayangarth Highway in southern Nepal. Forty kilometres of the road are in the flatlands of the Terai, and 40 km are in the hills of the Siwalik range. The road included four minor and four major bridges.

Bridge B1/40 Provided specialist geotechnical review of bridge B1/40 in eastern Trinidad. Trinidad Soft clay deposits underlie this river bridge and its earthfill approaches.

Kathmandu-Hetanda Road Provided specialist geotechnical review of the slope stability of cuts and fills Nepal along a 107-km section of this road following a particularly severe monsoon in 1993.

Access Roads Conducted a geotechnical assessment of a number of access roads to Greece potential hydroelectric schemes in Greece.

Cerro Colorado Road Conducted a preliminary geotechnical review, including air photo Panama interpretation and site visit, for a proposed road between the Cerro Colorado copper mining prospect and the Pacific Coast near David in western Panama.

Chilliwack Bridge Responsible for the detailed geotechnical investigation, analysis, and Chilliwack, BC formulation of recommendations for the foundation of design of the bridge, including earthquake considerations. Field geotechnical services provided during construction of the bridge foundations and approach embankments including vibro-densification of subsoil. The project was for an overpass to provide a four lane, seven-span road bridge into Chilliwack, over the CN Rail mainline.

Loop Road Responsible for geotechnical investigation, design recommendations, and Queensborough, BC monitoring of road settlement and subsoil porewater pressures for a loop road on peat and soft soils in Queensborough.

Feeder Road to Dang Valley Provided specialist geotechnical review of a feeder road from the main east-Nepal west highway to the Dang Valley in western Nepal. This section of road included one bridge over a river.

Sea to Sky Highway Input into the geotechnical aspects of widening the present Sea to Sky Sea to Sky Highway Highway from two to four lanes adjacent to Howe Sound near Porteau Cove. This section of highway has steep rocky mountain slopes on one side and deep fjord water on the other side.

Road Upgrades Site reconnaissance and geotechnical appraisal of proposed upgrades to 5 Trinidad and Tobago, WI sections of existing roads ranging in length from 5 to 12 km on the island of Trinidad, and 2 sections of roads of 1 and 5 km long on the adjacent. In addition to the above, Mr. McCammon was a member of two technical sub committees (foundations and seismicity) for the development of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code CAN/USA-S6-00, published in 2001.
