The Snake and the Little Girl The Snake and the Little Girl The Snake and the Little Girl The Snake and the Little Girl A young girl was trudging along a mountain path, trying to reach her grandmother's house. It was bitter cold, and the wind cut through her like a knife. When she was within sight of her destination, she heard a rustle at her feet. Looking down, she saw a snake. Before she could move, the snake spoke to her. He said, "I am about to die. It is too cold for me up here, and I am freezing. There is no food in these mountains, and I am starving. Please put me under your coat, and take me with you." "No," replied the girl. "I know your kind. You are a rattlesnake. If I pick you up, you will bite me, and your bite is poisonous." "No, no," said the snake. "If you help me, you will be my best friend. I will treat you differently." The little girl sat down on a rock for a moment to rest and think things over. She looked at the beautiful markings on the snake and had to admit that it was the most beautiful snake she had ever seen. Suddenly, she said, "I believe you. I will save you. All living things deserve to be treated with kindness." The little girl reached over, put the snake gently under her coat and pro-ceeded toward her grandmother's house. Within a moment, she felt a sharp pain in her side. The snake had bitten her. "How could you do this to me?" she cried. "You promised that you would not bite me, and I trusted you!" "You knew what I was when you picked me up," hissed the snake as he slithered away. You can make your own application here, but obviously this is just like sa-tan. He will lie and connive and sweet-talk us any way he can so that we give in to his suggestions. And if we do, well - how many of you, like me, have fig-ured out that you'll get bit every time? We need to be on guard. The devil knows our weaknesses and he knows what lines work with us. It's time we start catching on to his deceptions! "Be sober-minded; be watchful. Cathy Taylor is asking for your prayers in behalf of her friend, Marsha Russel. Marsha is undergoing chemo for breast cancer. Amon’s aunt Tamatha Simmons is having some health issues and would like your prayers. Kristen Rudd has a friend asking for prayers for her baby Haskell, with RSV and is in the hospital. Leslie and Cathy’s sister-in-law, Debby Jones continues

to have health problems. Please pray for her and her family. Mary Evelyn is slowly recovering from surgery and bone graft in her jaw and has been in a lot of pain and discomfort since. Bonnie is recovering from surgery a few weeks ago to repair fractures in her spine. Sergio would appreciate your prayers for his financial situation. We are in the process of ordering shirts and hats embroidered with our new updated church logo. The new logo will comprise a navy and light blue thread composite, modeled after the symbol on the website. We invite all interested members to participate and repre-sent our congregation, especially when vising other congregations, by purchasing and giv-ing your shirt of choice (dress, polo, sweat, and T-Shirts), and payment of $10.50 per shirt/item to Travis Ashley, who will deliver them to the embroiderer. There is no quanti-ty limit. Our deadline to submit your preferred embroidered item is 2/29/20. There is a 10-business day turnaround; so we estimate having all the shirts back in-hand by 3/16/20. Thank you in advance for your interest, participation, and support.

If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great for-est is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a rest-less evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's like-ness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water." Not only do we harm others with our tongues, but notice that verse 6 says that we also hurt ourselves. The honey bee is a curious creature. When made angry, it stings, bur-ying its stinger in the flesh of its victim. When it does, however, it inflicts a two-fold injury: to its victim and on itself. Shortly after it stings a per-son, the insect dies. You see, the bee really hurts itself worse than it hurts its victim. What are some ways that a person can hurt himself by saying evil things with his mouth? How does it hurt you when you "sting" another person with your words?
