Dear Colleagues,
I receive so many notes of appreciation for the PERG from massage therapists and bodyworkers, and I am pleased that the PERG fulfi lls your continuing education needs.
All of the advertisers in the PERG are approved by the National Certifi cation Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) to provide continuing education for massage therapists and bodyworkers. Both North Carolina and South Carolina State Boards accept CE hours from NCBTMB Approved Providers for license renewal (as do 27 state boards across the US.) So while anyone is free to teach what they know, not all courses meet the standards for professional continuing education. The relevance of course topics to our profession, the quality of the instruction, the knowledge and experience of the instructor, are all subjected to a rigorous evaluation process before being approved by the NCBTMB. Approved Providers must also adhere to a Code of Conduct including ethical standards and record keeping. And just as you, the therapist, renew your license periodically, the Approved CE Provider must also renew their certifi cation as a CE provider periodically.
How else does the NCBTMB ensure ongoing quality in continuing education? Much like your state board, they rely on you, the therapist, to let them know if anything is amiss. If you have a bad experience in a CE class, complaints against NCBTMB Approved Providers should be marked PERSONAL & CONFIDENTIAL and sent to:
