Why North Douglas Elementary?
We believe North Douglas Elementary is an environment where children are safe, treated fairly, and prepared for the future through quality instruction. Decisions are based on student needs and what is best for students. All students at North Douglas can and will learn, but not at the same rate and with the same teaching methods. Inside the Classroom North Douglas Elementary provides a strong core instructional program guided
by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). By emphasizing active learning
through the workshop model and Learning Focused Schools (LFS) strategies,
teachers provide a common framework of rigorous instruction. Students are
actively engaged in the learning process by reading, writing and doing. Students
have ample opportunity to develop technology-based skills through frequent
use of computers thanks to a 2:1 student to device ratio.
“Specials” classes afford students the opportunity for higher level thinking and
application of what they learn in their core classes. All students have weekly
courses in physical education, music, art, and STEM.
To promote success for all students, North Douglas Stingrays receive
individualized instruction based on their needs. Students who qualify for
additional assistance in reading or math receive extra help from Title I tutors.
Students identified as academically gifted are enrolled in program challenge
classes where they are able to extend and apply their understanding of the
standards. Resource instruction and co-taught classes are available to serve
students who have Individualized Education Plans. At North Douglas, we expect
ALL students to succeed!

Beyond the Classroom
North Douglas students have multiple opportunities to grow
through extracurricular activities. Students who enjoy running can
compete in the Road Runners club. Students who like team sports
can play intramural football or basketball or participate in the
intramural cheerleading squad. Academically-inclined students with
a competitive edge may want to participate in TOME Society, Chess
Club, Math Competition Team, or the Georgia Gravity Games Crew.
Go Stingrays!
North Douglas also provides activities for those students who prefer
the arts. The musically inclined may join the North Douglas Chorus
or North Dougie Drum Corp. The North Douglas Stingray News Crew
delivers school news every morning via closed circuit television. At
NDES, opportunities abound for ALL students to thrive.
