Once again we are happy to offer a convenient payment plan which requires 20% down and a debit/credit card. The remaining balance will be deducted monthly in four equal installments on January 1, February 1, March 1, and April 1. A $25 service fee (per semester) is applied to cover associated costs with the payment plan option.

This class covers the history of the United States from the Age of Discovery through the Civil War. A survey of U.S. History to the post-Civil War period. This is an overview of American Sign Language (ASL), its basic vocabulary, structure, syntax and grammar. Students will focus on mastering the basics of fingerspelling, numbers, colors, facial grammar and sentence structure; students will also learn conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation in ASL, with deaf/hard-of-hearing native users of the language. Introductory information about deaf culture will also be presented, along with deaf humor, to provide students with a broad picture of language and culture.

Studying the various art movements throughout time gives us a well-rounded way of looking at events, situations and people. It also helps us advance as artists.

This class provides historical and cultural background while allowing students to personally explore the varied use of color, lines, shape, composition and media in each period/culture. Projects center on works by da Vinci, Vermeer, Monet, Picasso, Kandinski, Matisse, Hopper and more. VISUAL ARTS

The Great Masters teach us invaluable lessons about art elements needed to be skilled artisans.

This fun and informative class develops students’ skills related to color theory, lines, shapes, texture/patterns and composition. Projects correlate with works by Matisse, Cezanne, van Gogh, Monet, O’Keefe, Picasso, Rembrandt, Hopper, Klee, Degas, Chagall and Rousseau. This is a multimedia art study which incorporates watercolor, acrylic, collage, pastel, ink, mixed media and clay.

FINE ARTS K-2 Art Is All Around Us! VISUAL ARTS

Part of developing creativity and artistic abilities is learning to see art in our daily lives! We’ll open your young artist’s creative eyes and awaken a creative spirit in this 16 week session.

We’ll be focusing on projects based on works from the great art masters (Seurat, van Gogh, Matisse, Monet, Chagall, da Vinci and more). Students will creatively explore art in the garden, at the grocery store, at the beach, at the zoo, on a farm, at the dinner table, in the city, in the mall, and in the woods. We introduce art elements and history through fun projects that utilize watercolor, acrylic, collage, clay, pastel and mixed media.

There is an amazing opportunity through youth sports to teach kids how to succeed in life. We strive to challenge and redefine society’s mainstream ideas of what it means to be successful (i.e. wealth, fame, etc) and establish more value based aspirations, standards, and life principles. In the process, students will also receive the training to become better basketball players, regardless of skill level. Anyone who enjoys the game or could benefit from building life skills is encouraged to participate.

In addition to learning key basketball skills, Basketball and Beyond! teaches kids how to:

S.T.E.A.M. HS Biology SCIENCE

In this comprehensive course, students investigate the chemistry of living things: the cell, genetics, the structure and function of living things, and ecology. The program consists of in-depth lessons including extensive animations, an associated reference book, collaborative explorations, virtual laboratories, and hands-on laboratory experiments students can conduct at home.

Topics include the scientific method, characteristics of living things, energy, organic compounds, and water. Students review the structure and function of living things, the cell, genetics, DNA, RNA, and proteins. They review digestive, respiratory, nervous, reproductive, and muscular systems; and ecology and the environment. Prepare yourself for the changing economy and learn about the skills you can focus on. With cloud computing, big data and automation set to completely disrupt the job landscape we will explore how you can make an impact on your generation in the business and technology fields.

Topics included in the curriculum: current markets/emerging markets, market segments, next gen career skills and compensation models, collaboration, presentation skills, entrepreneur/start-up risk and rewards, work/life balance and maintaining peace and joy in a sea of sharks.

S.T.E.A.M. 5-12 CAD Design & 3D Printing CIS/TECH

This is a continuation class from the first semester and builds upon skills developed in the first 16 weeks. Students should have completed the Fall Semester session as a prerequisite for Spring.This class will empower your child to learn more about the exciting world of 3D design & printing; from the design stage to a finished object. We will design, model and print their ideas and creations. We will be learning about designs concepts while navigating 3d software. The skills gained in this class will teach the student to quickly design, develop and test new ideas. Many industries already utilize 3d printing including: engineering , prototyping, doctors, dentists, biomedical companies and artists. Join us as we get a head start on the future.

S.T.E.A.M. 6-12 Chefmaster! ARTS:CULINARY

In Chefmaster!, we focus on “why” foods are prepared the way they are, what history may exist behind the food or method of cooking and begin creating associations to which the children may relate. The two-hour long class delves into the science of cooking, we teach why food reacts the way it does it different situations and what the best approach is to obtaining the desired results.

While continuing to stress kitchen safety and healthy choices, we will challenge math skills by measurement (weight and volume), reading and understanding directions. Basic chemistry and biology of food reaction will begin to be introduced, such as what makes bread rise or why we choose different temperatures for different foods or methods of cooking.

Many opportunities for experimentation are offered at this level. Children are encouraged to experience different flavor and texture combinations and put their own spin on recipes. Advanced cutting (including knives suitable for purpose). Chefmaster Jr. is a hands-on cooking and nutrition class for 3rd-5th grade. Our kids cooking classes introduce youth to the pleasures of preparing and enjoying "real food" that is both nutritious and delicious - an essential step toward health and well-being. Think about it…what if you found a mysteriously stinky box under your bed? How would you persuade a magic chef dragon to bake you a cake? If you could have any superpower, what would it be – and why? This middle school writing course is all about communication, inspiration, expression, creativity, weirdness and fun. We will practice writing from many different angles, while learning how to make our pieces POP! We may even absorb a few grammar, spelling, and style tips along the way. Each week we will write (in class and at home), edit, share ideas, and encourage each other’s efforts. This course builds on skills learned in Creative Writing Fall 2015, but new students are welcome.

As we all know, kids like to jump, squat, push, pull, run and climb as a part of their everyday life. These activities are a part of a “typical” child’s movement patterns. Just watch them play! It requires that they execute these movements quickly and efficiently regardless of their physical capacity.

CrossFit Kidz is a program that is designed with this specific function in mind. It is a program aimed at developing children’s fitness levels to optimize the enjoyment of their lives. To put it more simply, CrossFit Kidz helps kids to grow healthy and strong and through that, to love every minute of the day.

The program is also a great way to develop general athletic skills as a means of generating improvement in other sports. Classes are designed to incorporate elements of gymnastics, body weight movements, running and jumping to ensure that kids develop overall improvement in and a love for fitness. This type of advancement transfers over to all sports!

FINE ARTS 1-8 Dance: Hip Hop DANCE

This introductory-level Hip Hop class provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment, and offers a new set of combinations and routines every time. Be reassured that your little ones can learn fun and inventive dance in an “age-appropriate” setting without the worry of inappropriate music or costumes.

From R&B and House to Club and Pop, Hip Hop classes utilize upbeat music from various genres, in addition to the latest Hip Hop hits!

No prior dance experience necessary.

S.T.E.A.M. 9-12 Design by Nature ENGINEERING

Students will develop and build a project based on a design found in nature. For example, they may develop a bridge based on how a leaf is structured, or a flying maching based upon "helicopters". This course will cover STEAM principles as part of developing their project. Please note this is a highly self directed project and will require home based work assignments. The course will culminate with a competition on best design with a certificate awarded to the top achiever.PREREQUISITE: Students will need to be able to perform self-directed and self-motivated work to accomplish their project.

Cinematography VIDEO PRODUCTION

Students should have basic computer knowledge. Software knowledge not required. Students can sign up as film makers and/ or actors. Students will create professional short film or tv show with a story idea of their choosing. Film makers will learn the full production pipeline from start to finish such as script writing, storyboard artist, camera operator, director, and video editors.

Actors will gain skills for collaborating in performances based upon shot size and angle, emotional and physical continuity, strength, hitting marks, and crew skills (participating in film duties) to help finish the team project. This class is great for any student who wants to take a class on film making and/or acting to broaden their knowledge in this field of study.

Students must bring own laptop or rent from the teacher for $10 per month.

LIBERAL ARTS 5-12 Digital Video

EditingVIDEO PRODUCTION

Digital Video Editing is designed to introduce NGHE Students to the world of video production and digital video editing. As much as possible, the class is structured like a real world work environment where students are expected to work individually or in teams, meet deadlines and put forth their best efforts. Some of the skills taught in this class will be title effects, CG basics, compositing, sound effects, and much more. Students will learn these skills on programs that many professionals use like Adobe Premier and After Effects. Some of the lessons will trickle down to using fantastic free programs, like iMovie & Windows Movie Maker, found on many PCs today.Students will be required to invest significant out of class time to complete course requirements. By the end of the course, students will have some of their work posted online for others to see and share! This class, when taken in conjunction with the Digital Cinematography class, is a wonderful complement to their education in Film & Video!Students must bring own laptop or rent from the teacher for $10 per month.

Drawing Currents: Intro to Circuitry and Drawing Currents Jr: Intro to Circuitry

ENGINEERING

In this class, students will gain skills and knowledge through classroom instruction and lab activities in the areas of basic circuits, circuit components, testing, electromagnetism and inductance, capacitance, power supplies, power generation and distribution, amplification, and digital circuits. Students will learn the safe use of the tools, test instruments, equipment and supplies used in this course plus information on career opportunities in this field. One of the materials used during teaching time is a pen using a non-toxic silver conductive ink. No need for wiring, just drawing!

Hands-on and problem solving activities will expose students to areas of Ohm’s Law, insulators, conductors, electronic components, audio system, microcomputers, and electronic fabrication, and more. Not only will they develop their understanding and appreciation of electronics and circuitry, but they will also develop skills in collaboration, deductive reasoning, experimentation, and fun!

Welcome to Fun With Español!, where children learn Spanish in a fun and exciting way. We believe in music and laughter as the most effective ways for kids to learn and grow especially when learning another language.Fun With Español! is designed to provide your student with plenty of movement, music, and fun. Our approach to teaching Spanish mimics native language acquisition – children have fun interacting with other kids while creating arts and crafts or singing along with their teacher! This is a natural process of learning, and it works for the second language as well as it works for native language learning.

By simply being immersed and consistently talking, playing, singing and having lots of fun in Spanish, it has resulted in a rapid language learning program that kids love. With a no pressure environment, children love learning Spanish and feel comfortable using it. Fun With Español! provides children a foundation for learning a second language in a fun positive way.

DESIGN

Over the past decade, board games have gained increased prominence within the game industry. With the growing popularity of Euro-style board games, such as Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, and Dominion, board games have seen an unexpected resurgence among gamers of all kinds. Designing for board games brings about different challenges than designing for video games, but the skills can be applied universally to make all of your games better.

Game On! is designed to teach you the fundamental philosophies of game design and apply them in a hands-on manner using a step-by-step process that develops your ‘game design muscles.’ The tips, tools, and techniques taught in this course exist to provide the practical resources needed for your game design. In addition, the information this course provides is a grounded study for any real life application where inspiration must combine with perspiration to create a marketable product of art, craft, and science (all of which apply to making games).

Extended Play DESIGN

Game On! Extended Play is a rich and in-depth complement to the Game On! Board GameDesign class, and for anyone who is interested in discovering more of the history and current culture of board games. The “Game Design Muscles” of the brain will be challenged even more when students are introduced to the collection of over 2500+ board games in “Mike the Game Guy’s” arsenal, many of which are considered the best in German/Eurogame genres. Week-by-week, Mr. Mike will introduce a different set of games categorized by strategy, theme, goal, focus, interaction, immersion and so much more!

Open to all students who breathe, have vocal cords and beating hearts!

Singing in a group shouldn't be intimidating. Our 16-week musical journey will begin with the importance of ear training and basic skills of singing. Economic literacy is important because economics is such an integral part of daily existence. Individuals who understands basic economic concepts will be better equipped to make the important decisions that every citizen requires. The curriculum is designed for elementary and middle school students. Each lesson introduces an economic concepts such as: goods and services; production; scarcity; consumer; producer; trade; money; specialization; capital; saving and investing; market price; cost and profit; inflation; and gross national product. The unique feature of these lessons is the use of modeling clay in each lesson. This is not only motivating, but it also provides concrete learning experiences that promote learning for most elementary and middle school students.

Faith FAITH

This is a continuation of Heroes of the Faith - Fall Semester. But you can still join the class if you did not take the class in the Fall. There are plenty of new things to learn!Students will learn about famous missionaries, such as William Carey, David Livingston, Amy Carmichael, Mary Slessor, and Eric Liddell. We will discuss where they lived, who they served, what it was like to do missions in other countries/ other cultures. We will delve into those other cultures and other time periods and discuss how these famous people were just ordinary people that felt the call of God and acted upon it. We will also discuss modern missionaries and why it is important to "go into all the world and share the gospel of Jesus Christ" - whether it be in your neighborhood or on the other side of the world.

Emphasizes helping the beginning actor and non-theater student create believable characters using subtext through concentration, imagination and observation in non-scripted scenes. Exercises provide a foundation for using subtext, playing in the moment, and creating truthful relationships in scripted and non-scripted scenes, and the use of the body and voice as communicative agents. Many of the exercises used in TVs “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” will be implemented to develop razor-sharp and thoughtful team members.

Our enthusiastic & caring teachers take the students through a thoughtful and carefully planned trek of unit lessons. “Unit studies” is learning multiple subjects through a central theme. These themes are based in literary classics like Paul Revere’s Ride, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and The Story of Ferdinand. The day of learning is set by reading the story aloud. The book is discussed as a group, and then they venture to different topics of art, social studies, geography, history, music, science, and so much more! They move from one classroom to the next learning a little bit more and growing deeper in understanding.

Unit studies is a great way hold their attention for longer periods of time. That concentration helps them focus on the teacher, in turn, helping them understand how life connects one area of life to another. Kickboxing provides is a high-energy class that allows the students to have fun while working out. Each class differs and we will focus on strengthening a different set of muscles, either abdominal, arms, or legs during each class. All of our kickboxing classes include cardio-vascular training, stretching, and resistance training ending with a focus on deep breathing and stretching. We will also utilize plyometric exercises, basic calisthenics, and we will be sure to throw several rounds of combinations of kicks and punches on our targets.

Welcome to the magical world of Narnia!

In this class we will be reading the first three books in the Narnia series, The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy. We will eat some of the food from the books, play games, and work on some cool projects! All of this while learning valuable life lessons from these fantastic heroes that have stood the test of time.

Can math feel fragmented? The Math Mosaics class (no relation to the Math Mosaics Curriculum) builds a solid foundation by taking the math concept pieces, putting them together, and filling in the gaps to create a clear picture and understanding of these math concepts.

There are pieces relating percents to decimals and fractions, comparing and ordering, solving multistep practical problems and determining the percent of increase or decrease for a give situation. Students are expected to understand the relationship between fractions, decimals and percents and that rational numbers can be expressed as fractions, decimals and percents.

This class is great as a stand-alone, or supplemental class, for the developing student prior to taking Pre-Algebra/Algebra. Give your student “the edge” in Middle/High School math! Supply fee includes all student curriculum needed for this class.

Are you ready to take your basic Minecraft skills to the next level and become a true Minecraft wizard? Imagine creating a lightning strike at any location of your choice? Ever wondered how to create an entire structure your own design with a single click of the mouse? This fun program focuses on learning how to extend Minecraft creating your own custom worlds through programming. Working in the environment LearnToMod, students will conquer a number of preset challenges to extend Minecraft while mastering the javascript based Blockly visual programming language. At the end of the week students design their own mods and present their creations to the group on the last day. No previous programming experience is required although students should have basic Minecraft familiarity. Students must bring own laptop.

This exciting class will teach you how to create completely original games and applications without typing a single line of code through the use of logic and assets. Even if you have never programmed before or built apps before, by the end of this course you will be capable of building apps and submitting them to an online app store.

Before you even start building an app, we take you through what makes a good app, and the limitations you might face during development. You will learn how to design a good user interface, and how an app runs. The ubiquity of cell phone photography has had a widespread impact on the tradition, practice, and purposes of photography, as well as concepts of art and what art should be for.

In this class, we discuss the growing need of cell phone photography, It is a great tool for all of us to visually document life events and celebrations. We will study the basics of photography through the cell phone discussing phone/camera basics, composition, lighting, and so much more. We will also touch the subjects of creative effects and editing to share the final product with friends and family. Alongside these discussions, students will create works of art utilizing the experimental, documentary, and social potentials of cell phone photography.

It is recommended that your student have a cell phone with an 8-megapixel (min.) camera for class use. They will also need the ability to download and install a free camera app onto their phone to learn how to control when the camera is in a manual settings mode. FINE ARTS 1-8 On Pointe! Ballet ARTS:DANCE

Balance, hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping (basic locomotor movements), age appropriate stretches, basic positions of the feet and arms, the concept of parallel vs. turned out legs and feet, and ballet class etiquette are part of the curriculum. Students learn ballet terminology, the names of composers of classical ballet music, and the stories of famous ballets. On Pointe! will incorporate key concepts used in modern ballet. A choreographed final performance will be at the end of the semester.

During this course students will learn about flight - including the history and biographies about pioneers in this exciting field. Through this study we will get to build aircraft that have made a great impact on our world, as well as partake in exciting activities that have to do with aerospace! With great attendance students may qualify for an official AEX (Aerospace Education Excellence) award. Don’t let paper fool you — it isn’t just for drawing and writing. Paper is flexible and easy to cut, and it can be surprisingly strong when you fold it. Those qualities make paper a great building material for all kinds of design/engineering projects. And yes, you can still decorate the surface of your paper projects, even though a lot of them look good in white. Paper engineering and making pop-ups is a skill that anyone can take part in. The skills are easy to pick up, and the tools you need are inexpensive and easy to get hold of.

This class introduces major aspects of paper engineering, including making simple pop-up cards, designing storybooks using pop-ups, and making kinetic models. Your child will learn basic concepts and techniques of paper engineering, along with completing projects. Students go thru the design process itself. They will be moved to seek inspiration and getting your ideas down on paper to making the transition from sketch to completed model.

Join us for this unique journey around the world based on languages. Opening with an account of the tower of Babel where the world's one and only language was split into a wide variety of language families, we will go on to cover one language and a focus country for many letters of the alphabet. This will include a "real" passport to stamp with each country's seal and lots of hands on fun as we sample foods, play games and make crafts from each country. Optional homework for your own lapbook to extend the study will be provided each week.If your child took the cultural/geographic study “Soup Around the World” in the Fall, don’t fret! Students with experience playing instruments and/or who enjoy singing delve into the craft and artistry of songwriting and composition. Students will focus on the core song elements in both traditional and contemporary form. From pop to hip-hop, from country to jazz, much of contemporary music is drawn from these styles. Students listen to and study great songs from these traditions as they create and then record their own compositions. Students perform their own or one another’s work for the entire community. Each day there will be writing time with the instructor giving individual guidance to students on varying days.

Experience in songwriting is not required; students should, however, be able to play a piano/keyboard or chordal instrument and be familiar in traditional music notation or tablature.

This fun, interactive course for students is filled with diverse, multimedia language activities, supplemented with Visual Link Spanish lessons. Students begin their introduction to Spanish by focusing on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course represents an ideal blend of language learning pedagogy and online learning. If you haven’t joined the current class, it’s not too late! Over the course of the 2015-2016 school year, students in 3th-12th grade have been working on a vibrant & enjoyable final performance for everyone to enjoy!NGHE drama classes develop, in students, an appreciation and understanding of theater and acting, allowing them to glorify God through their abilities. Numerous opportunities are available for students to learn acting techniques and apply that knowledge.

Our drama program is better than ever! Students will develop their drama techniques that they will use in their roles for their final performance. Rehearsals include training in the fine detail of dramatic, musical, and media performing. Vocal training includes warm-ups, exercises, and working in a group.

NGHE drama teachers are comprised of practicing professionals, vocalists, and choreographers, who will work with the cast to help them discover their God-given gifts! This is a 2-hour long class.

Over the past few years, maker spaces have been popping up in many cities over country! Their popularity has grown with people desiring to understand how things work and to make things with their own hands.

TinkerTime! is a great way to introduce your student to the basic skills of the Maker Space. Class time will be dedicated not only to structured instruction in using making tools and materials, but we will also get into hands-on projects walking through the thought process that gets from a concept to completion.

Some popular discussion & projects will include paper engineering, electronics, e-textiles, and fabrication!


FINE ARTS 3-12 Ukulele Orchestra MUSIC

People of all ages can learn to play the ukulele and discover the fun of group singing and playing ... ukuleles are much easier to learn than other stringed instruments, thereby allowing you to start playing songs right away! We'll learn to play and sing songs from many traditions... rock, blues, folk, classical, jazz and more! Joining students must provide their own ukulele for class.


S.T.E.A.M. 6-12Video Game Design - Advanced

This is a continuation class. Students will use Autodesk Maya and Unity for Video Game Design. Students will create 3D Models, 3D Animations, and Game Assets for Unity Game Engine. Autodesk Maya is used to sharpen the students skills in making custom made props for students levels. Also, animation skills are essential for making characters walk, run, jump, crawl, and idle in place. Unity Game Engine will be used to import in all the custom made props to create the students level.

North Georgia Homeschool Enrichment2014-2015 School Guidelines

At NGHE we are striving to provide each child with an excellent learning experience while they are on our campus. We are asking each student to abide by these basic guidelines while they attend our classes this year. Any student that does not meet these guidelines will be given a warning on the first offense. After the second offense we will be contacting the parents to assist us with their child. NGHE does not have a principal and will not be dealing with serious behavior issues during our classes. We will always contact parents directly to take care of behavior or dress code violations.

Conduct

1. Students will show respect to teachers and all adults while on campus.

2. Students will show respect to other students. This includes keeping their hands to themselves at all times. This includes boy/girl relationships.

3. Students will be quiet and not run while in hallways.

4. Students will show respect for the campus by throwing away all trash and not destroying any property.

5. All students must be in a supervised setting while on campus. Only students 5th grade and up may leave the building at the end of the day without a parent.

6. No cell phone/texting at all during classes. Please use them during breaks only.

Discipline

North Georgia Home School Enrichment are committed to helping each student reach their full potential in each class. It is because of this goal that we need to set up some guidelines to follow for students that are disruptive in nature. We want each parent and student to be fully aware of our intentions so there is no confusion during our time together.

Our guidelines are fairly simple. The first time a student acts disruptively, the teacher will give them a verbal warning. The second time the student acts out, in the same disruptive way, the teacher will share this with the parent. If a child continues to be disruptive after two warnings we will ask a parent to accompany the students to class or ask that the student be removed from the class.

It is unlikely that we will ever have to remove a students from class but in the rare chance that we do we will not be able to refund the tuition for that session.

Dress Code

1. We are asking all students to dress appropriately and modestly. This means that girls may not wear tank tops or spaghetti strapped tops and that shorts must be at finger tip length while standing. Please no shirts with crude or violent sayings on them. Boys must wear their pants/shorts high enough that undergarments cannot be seen.

2. No hats can be worn in class.

3. No rolling shoes allowed.

4. Shoes must be worn at all times. Please wear appropriate shoes for the activities of the day.
