HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL!
The December meeting was very interesting. A lot of you will recall that the Steelers had an evening game that night and the weather was not really nice (a lot of fog in many areas). Now I want to tell you that no one in the club should ever say their vote does not count!! We had a total of 24 members including the Club Officers, show up for the December meeting when we were to have our election of Officers and a Board of Directors seat that will be vacant January 1st. The By-Laws tell us you need a quorum which is defined as a minimum of 30 members. S0, after consulting the Board members present, (5) it was decided, the election would be held in January to meet the guidelines set forth in the By-Laws. Since Joe and I have belonged to the Club, some 5 years now, I have never seen so few members at a meeting! I wish to thank the people who did give up the game and come out on a not very nice evening. However, if there were 6 more people there we could have held the election. With our usual meeting attendance being anywhere from 60 and above, this attendance was a surprise! In 2008 I suggest that we may want to check the Steeler schedule as soon as it is released. . I was told by a long time member that this is the first time in the Club History that the elections did not take place as scheduled at the December meeting. So please come out for the January meeting so we can get this piece of business taken care of and move ahead for 2008.
LET’S GET STARTED ON ANOTHER FUN FILLED YEAR OF CAR STUFF AND EVENTS AND TOURING.
SEE YOU AT THE MEETING !!!!

Minutes of the December 9, 2007 NHHAC Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Clara Dresbach with 26 members in attendance. The November 11th minutes stand approved as written in the November newsletter. Treasurer Jack Swaney reported a balance of $3437.72 as of December 9, 2007. The treasurer’s report stands approved as read. We had one guest, Alexander “Sandy” Bennett for his first review for membership. Sandy gave a brief run down of the 8 antique vehicles he and his wife Betty own. They have a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible and 7 Franklins in their automobile stable. There were some amusing and interesting facts as to how most of the Franklins came into their possession. Frank Pribanic reported that Mark Malchano was recuperating from recent surgery. No other members were hospitalized or ill that Frank was aware of. Old Business: President Dresbach reported that she had spoken to Mike Quinn regarding the February 24 Flea Market at Krebs Dodge on Route 8. Mike will need volunteers to help set up and clean up. Please contact Mike who is recovering from hip surgery. More information will be available at the January 13th meeting. New Business: Jackie Sheerer informed the membership that the March 7-9 Winter Get-A-Way to Blackwater Falls is set. The cost is $68.00 per night. 10 non-smoking and 5 smoking rooms are reserved. There is a swimming pool, game room and a hospitality room will be available for socializing. If you make your reservation, please let Jackie and/or Bill know that you did. If you charge the reservation, it will not be on your account until you actually arrive in Blackwater Falls. The after Christmas party is scheduled for February 16, 2008. Pat O’Neill will have more details at the January meeting. Due to the fact that the club did not have a quorum in attendance, the election of officers could not be held. Instead the members will vote at the January 13th meeting. Nominations from the floor for candidates were closed at the December meeting. There being no other business to attend to, several members engaged in various discussions. Steve Illsley brought an Old Cars Weekly magazine with an article expressing a valid reason to not mount radial tires on old rims/wheels as they would be damaged. The Sheerer’s informed us that Al Zamba, Peter Grant and Bill Swaney had their Packards on display at the Frick Museum and that there was no charge for admission to the Car and Carriage House. Steve Illsley made the motion to adjourn The next meeting will be January 13, 2008, 7:00 P.M. @ St. Alphonsus Church Respectfully submitted, Loretta Fusco Secretary

Karl Mueller
This month we feature member Karl Mueller. Karl and his
wife Debby live in Sewickley and are very active members of this club.
Karl owns a gorgeous black 1936 Graham Supercharged 6 Sedan which has
been a familiar sight at numerous club events.
I asked Karl how he got into the old car hobby. He said it seems like
he has always been interested in old cars. He can remember sitting in
the grocery store reading Hot Rod Magazine while his mother was shop-
ping, dreaming of the day he would finally own a car. Karl and his
brother would ride around
going to dealerships looking
at new and used cars.
Karl got into the NHHAC on
his own about 4 years ago
after attending our car
shows since 1975. He said he
thinks he has attended
almost every car show we
have had. About 8 years ago,
he took a car restoration
class at Community College
taught by club member Bill
Artzberger. It was Bill who
encouraged Karl to restore
his Graham and told him that
it was the first car he ever
rode in going 100 miles an
hour. Karl was inspired by Bill and began the long
restoration project on his Graham. It was also Bill who talked Karl
into finally joining the NHHAC.
Karl admits that he actually got interested in the Graham Automobile
only by accident. His brother knew he wanted an old car to hot rod and
his new brother-in-law had a car he wanted to get rid of. They went to
look at it and found out it was all in parts. The body was just sitting
on the frame and completely covered with surface rust. Karl asked what
it was and he was told it was a 1936 Graham. He said, "What the heck is
a Graham?"
So he bought it for $450 in 1975, not knowing for sure what it even
looked like as a whole car! He and his brother towed it home behind his
brother’s pickup truck with a piece of chain, and a pipe in between,
and all of the parts in the truck bed.
DROVE TOO LONG
Karl decided to keep
the original drive train,
thinking it was very
unusual. He reassembled the
car and put Cragar Mag
wheels on it. (after all,
he was only 18 years old)
And that's the way it
stayed until 1995 when he
decided to do a full body
off restoration on the car.
As might be expected,
he did a great amount of
research on his car
restoration project. He
learned that the Graham
brothers were in the truck business since the teens and were making
truck body conversion kits for people who wanted to make a truck out of
a passenger car. It wasn't
until 1928 that the three Graham brothers came out with their first
Graham passenger car manufactured in Detroit. He further learned that
his Graham manufactured in 1936 had a Supercharged 217 Cubic inch 6
cylinder engine that sported
116 horsepower. His car was
built on a 116" wheel base
and weighed 3000 pounds. The
cost new for his Graham Sedan
in 1936 was $900.00.
His very first car was a
1961 Chevrolet. He bought it
from his uncle at the age of
14. It took him 2 years to
get that car on the road. He
has had many cars since, but
the Graham somehow has man-
aged to stay around.
Karl enjoys restoration,
showing and driving the car
on tours, but most of all, being with friends in the car hobby. He is a
machinist by trade, so enjoys making and
repairing parts for his car. He enjoys any mechanical things and is al-
ways amazed at the technology in use 50 to 100 years ago.
He has made many good friends in the NHHAC. One of those couples was
Michael and Antoinette Quinn. At a meeting after Karl had been in the
club for about a year, they brought a friend with them by the name of
Debby. Karl and Debby became good friends and a year later began dat-
ing. On May 13 of 2006, they were married. When Karl joined the club,
he never thought he would meet his best friend and the love of his
life, his wife Debby, because of some car no one ever heard of!

We’ve all heard the famous words,
“They can have any color they want, as long as it’s black,” attributed to Henry Ford
in reference to the first Ford automobiles. However, three other colors were offered
from 1908 to 1914. What were they?
Thanks to Roy Kennedy for this one!

Starting at St Barnabas and end at the winery.
Music by Jan and possibly a live band Pre-registers will only have to check in and not complete any other paperwork.
We will also be using a food vendor that normally provides food for winery functions. Anyone wanting to go straight to the winery may do so.
In an effort to give single hand purchasers a better chance we will be asking all participants to
declare the hand they are playing before the card is selected. That will insure random deals.
More to come, if you have any suggestions or questions feel free to call or email me.
