The Arashi technique involves twisting, wrapping and binding of the cloth around wooden or copper poles while Itajime is a shape resistant technique where fabric can be molded between two pieces of wood.

The water crisis tested Redman's creativity and made her realize how precious it is. She also learned to make more with less when it came to dying techniques. 8Grand Canyon National Geographic Visitor Center 450 State Route 64 Grand Canyon, AZ, 86023 Phone: 928-638-2468

When Redman begins dying material for the quilts she primarily uses cotton fabric, however, she plans to use silk while at the Canyon, since silk absorbs less water than cotton.9Grand Canyon National Geographic Visitor Center 450 State Route 64 Grand Canyon, AZ, 86023 Phone: 928-638-2468

Redman also plans to make a three-day hiking trip into the Canyon, to photograph the landscape and colors of the Canyon. She will use these pictures for future reference to finding the perfect dye recipe for 2D and 3D wall quilts.
