MIRACLE LEAGUE PLANS IMPROVEMENTS AT
THE MUNICIPAL PARK PLAYGROUNDThe Miracle League of Northampton Township PA and Northampton Township
have embarked on a new journey which involves making improvements to the
already popular playground at the Municipal Park on Hatboro and Bristol Roads in
Churchville. The mission of The Miracle League of Northampton Township PA, a non-
profit organization, is to enrich the community by providing education and social
development through high quality recreation facilities and programs for individuals
with special needs and their families.
In April 2012, the community celebrated the grand
opening of a baseball field and a multi-purpose field both uniquely designed with
special playing surfaces. The fields are located in the Municipal Park, adjacent to
the softball fields that are used by the Northampton Girls Softball Association. This
location helps create a feeling of inclusion for Miracle League athletes, who enjoy
participating in a sport just like every other kid.
This all volunteer organization once again is ready to make a miracle happen
and create an all-inclusive playground by enhancing the existing playground at
the Northampton Township Municipal Park. Working with Landscape Structures,
playground experts in Inclusive Play, the Miracle League Board of Directors has strategically planned improvements
that will welcome children and families of all abilities to learn, play and grow together.
Northampton Township applied for and received a $270,500 grant from the PA
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation
Partnership Program and another $50,000 grant from the Department of
Community Economic Development to assist in the funding of this $500,000+
project. The remainder of the funds will be matched through fundraising efforts.
If you would like additional information and a list
of all the equipment planned for the playground
or are interested in making a donation to support
the purchase and installation of new equipment
so that children can play together without experiencing physical or social barriers
visit the website at www.miracleleaguenhpa.org, or mail a check to Miracle League of
Northampton Township PA P.O. Box 453 Richboro, PA 18954-0453.
Questions? Call Nancy Opalka, Director of Parks and Recreation at 215-357-6800.
A miracle is often considered an extraordinary event in human affairs; a league is an association of persons brought together by a common interest, goal or cause. By definition the Miracle League is an association of people brought together to take part in extraordinary events in human affairs. This rationale rings true when speaking of the Miracle League of Northampton Township, PA.
