Dr. Rice, originally from Horton, Kan., attended Kansas State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. While at K-State, Rice worked in the athletic department and served as athletic trainer for the football program. She then enrolled at the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, and earned a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree and graduated magna cum laude. After serving two internships, attending many advanced seminars outside the classroom as well as becoming a certificated practitioner in Advanced Activator Methods she felt it was time to open her own practice. Dr. Rice contacted Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitation (NKEF) for help to start her business. The facilitator for NEKEF, Teresa McAnerney, met with Dr. Rice and they discussed the details of opening a business and putting a team in place. The NEKEF board members brainstormed ideas for Dr. Rice that gave her valuable input and contacts to help in launching the new business.

“ Dr. Rice is very well trained in best practices for Chiropractic and we were

happy to help her connect the dots with business resources,” says McAnerney.

Growing up an athlete and being involved in a variety of sports, Dr. Rice encountered some sports-related injuries. It was the treatment she received that led her into the chiropractic field. She realized the benefits of Chiropractic at an early age when severe knee injuries from skiing and basketball sidelined her from sporting activities, but she was able to fully rehabilitate through chiropractic treatment.

adjustments to keep pain free and active and I now enter marathons,” says Dr. Rice with a big smile.

Dr. Rice’s goal is to allow patients to return to their active lifestyles in the shortest timeframe through the most beneficial treatment. Her priority is for individuals to enjoy playing sports and everyday activities free of pain. By utilizing Dr. Rice’s chiropractic treatment, she can address the source of movement that is resulting in pain and through adjustments remove the interference and allow the body to optimally function without pain.

Sunrice Chiropractic utilizes the gentle and effective Activator Methods evaluation and Chiropractic Cranial Connection techniques. These techniques are a blend of new technology and old school philosophy. This

technology allows Dr. Rice to treat patients of all ages, from an infant to the elderly. Since this method allows precise accuracy, the treatment can be very specific allowing her to treat anything including: tip of a finger, earache, jaw issues, knee, hip, shoulder, neck and back. Activator is one of the most thoroughly researched techniques in Chiropractic. Dr. Rice also offers Kinesio Taping in conjunction with the adjustment to allow for a quicker improvement time. Kinesio Taping is one of the newest and most advanced therapy methods, and was recently highlighted at the Olympics as a treatment being used by many of the athletes. Taping offers many benefits, including supporting muscles, removing swelling (inflammation) and bruising and stabilizing joint problems.

“Kinesio Taping allows the body to heal itself more quickly,” adds Dr. Rice.

Enterprise Facilitation™ projects from Wales UK, Canada, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Ohio and Oregon gathered in Atchison, KS September 12-14, for a three-day Fall Forum workshop to discuss best practices, brainstorm about potential business funding streams, and learn new techniques for helping en-trepreneurs. Led by Linda McCowan of the Sirolli Institute, and hosted by Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitation, the forum was held at the Sophia Center, operated by the Sisters of the Benedictine Order.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Ernesto Sirolli, kicked off the event with a rousing speech delivered at the Benedictine College Ferrell Academic Center. Dr. Si-rolli is the creator of the Enterprise Facilitation™ model for rural economic development and business sustainability and the founder and director of the

Sirolli Institute. The presentation outlined the underpinnings of the Enterprise Facilitation™ model as responsive to the needs of each community and how the model and it’s philosophy was developed based on his colorful experienc-es abroad.

Founded on the Sirolli method of entrepreneurial manage-ment, these enterprise projects offer free, confidential busi-ness consulting to anyone who wants to start a business or has an existing business wishing to improve, expand or diversify. The facilitators and board members emphasize that entrepre-neurs are not alone, that it takes a competent team to grow and sustain a business. “Business is a team sport” says Sirolli.

“This was a lively group who are all passionate about helping entrepreneurs,” says David Key, Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitation board chair. “It’s rewarding to help people put a solid foundation under their business vision so that they can grow and sustain,” adds Key.

Moe Forouzan, facilitator attending the conference from the United Kingdom commented, “It’s amazing that there are such similar issues facing small businesses whether they are in Wales or rural Kansas! This has given us all a chance to share infor-mation and networking resources to accomplish what needs to be done to help entrepreneurs.”

The event was made possible by many sponsors including, Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitation, the Sirolli Insti-tute, the Cray Center for Entrepreneurial Services, Benedictine College, Betty and Gary Lortscher, Patsy Porter CPA, PA, Bank of Atchison, United Missouri Bank, Exchange Bank, United Country Realty, the City of Atchison, Atchison Chamber of Commerce, Country Memories Soap, Meadowlark K-State Extension District and the Sophia Retreat Cen-ter. A special thanks to an anonymous donor who generously stepped forward to pay the fees for keynote speaker, Dr. Sirolli.
