Welcome from Bouchard livestock Welcome to the 10TH Annual Northern Classic Simmental and Charolais Bull Sale. The two families involved in the Northern Classic are true family agriculture operations with every member of these families involved in one way or another. Simmental op-erations that exhibit at major and local shows and and down the road. They also consign to major front-end sales, such as Checkers where they have consigned front-end females repeatedly over the years. On offer is a group of bulls, both Charolais and Simmental, befitting a 10th Anniversary celebration. JayDawn has brought a group of very strong, meat machine Charolais bulls sired by Playboy, Sweet Gee, Royal Flush, and Kaboom. The Simmental bulls on offer for 2013 are a cross section of Red and Black Purebreds as well as a group of Fullbloods. Bulls that possess adequate mus-cle, top, performance and great hair coat. These individuals have been raised in the north and ideally suited to work in the climate. Both of these operations have operated in the cattle business in Valleyview and Grande Prairie region for a number of years. There will be bulls capable of filling a role in both purebred and commercial herds, certainly future herdsires that are bred to increase traits like performance, calving ease and maternal, depending on your individual needs. The sale has seen some changes over the last few years with KimLake Farms and Ken Edey Simmentals taking on new chapters in their lives and Willow Creek Simmentals stepping into the sale to round out the offering. I must say that we have had a lot of fun working together to bring this sale to where it is today. With that said we have remained committed to you our customers with supplying sound functional seed stock that will help you reach your goals in the livestock industry. We are constantly searching for new genetics to enhance our programs which in turn will be passed onto your programs. We continue to offer our payment plan of half down sale day with the other half not due until November 1st 2013. We continue to of-fer Free Delivery in the Peace Country and do our utmost to get them delivered right to your door. We continue to offer sight unseen purchases and work very closely with you to find a bull that will meet your needs. Bulls have all been semen tested and inspected by a licenced veterinarian. We guarantee that you will have a bull to use if a problem should arise as we keep a number of spare bulls at home. Payment TermsPay 1/2 on sale day and the balance due November 1 with post-dated cheque. Bulls become the risk of the purchaser as soon as they are sold and must carry insurance to qualify for Terms. All bulls must have their registration papers transferred to same owner.

Health and FertilityAll bulls will be scrotal measured and vet examined. All bulls over 12 months of age will be semen tested. All bulls were treated with Ivomec and such products and have received all their vaccinations. Contact seller for details on programs.

100% GuaranteeAll bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA and CCA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows.

Homozygous TestingMany bulls have been Homo Polled and Homo Black tested. Results will be available prior to the sale.

Heated Sales BarnAttend the Northern Classic and take advantage of the sale, the 4H show and all the festivities involved with the trade show. Remember to show your catalogue at the gate in order to park next to the Drys-dale Centre.

Bull Developement OptionThe Northern Classic consignors will keep the bulls free of charge until the early part of April. Bull buyers need to insure the bulls while cared for by the consignors.Delivery Option ABulls can be picked up at Evergreen Park on sale day and a $50 dis-count will be deducted from purchased price.Delivery Option BAt the buyer’s option and risk the bull can return home and be delivered anywhere in the Peace Region and to central locations free of charge. Anywhere outside of this will be shared costs of the buyer and seller. We will do our utmost to deliver them right to your yard. Heifer ApprovedThroughout the catalogue you will see bulls pointed out as individuals that could be used on heifers with minimal or no calving troubles.

EPD ExplanationEPDs are “Expected Progeny Difference”. They are a useful tool in se-lection EPD incorporate the individual animal with its anestry perfor-mance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds. They are individual based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. The accuracy of EPDs for calendar year bull calves is generally about 20% (one out of five times) so use it cautiously. One of several selection tools.

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releas-ing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. The $36,000 Gunner bull has sur-passed all of our expectations with his 3rd calf crop hitting the ground as we print this catalogue. He calves super easy and patterns them all the same. “Easily a pen favorite” explains 52Z. This February born bull is really easy doing and has a ton of middle to him. His dam is a cow we got from Moose Creek Simmentals, has been a top-end producer year after year, and has the fleck influence in her pedigree. BuckEye continues to work well in our program, giving us calves that are born easy and grow well. We use him on clean up on the heifer pen and on the cows as well. 4Z and 5Z are twins, they are larger framed bulls of the Buck-Eye group and they get their frame from their dam. She is a large broody Inferno that has a perfect udder and a ton of milk. Great cow family that knows how to produce as she raised both these bulls on her own and bred back and calved in January this year.

These two bulls very well could have started off the catalogue. Out of our calving ease sire Brave who has been very consistent at Jay-Dawn both in the heifer pen and on the cow herd. 16X is just a small made black baldy 2 year old that weighs about 1200 lbs. She raised both these bulls thru to weaning with a combined weight at just under 1500 lbs and bred back for an early February baby. She has a perfect udder with lots of milk and is gaining early respect here at JayDawn. Both bulls are very moderate made, are very stout and have a ton of hair. Wallbanger is a bull that created quite a stir since he was born, selling for half interest in 2010 for $45,000 to Robb Farms and the Semen Syndicate. He is a super soggy stout made bull that gets out and moves freely on a tremendous set of feet and legs. Measured 39cm and froze semen at just 11 months old. A few of the first females out of Wallbanger sold last fall and topped the sales. His replacement females are standouts in the pen. The first set of Wallbanger bulls are set to sell this spring. He stamps them all the same born easy, grow rapidly and all have that herdbull look to them with lots of hair. The 2nd set of Wallbanger calves are hitting the ground at JayDawn and look great we will be using him very heavy in our A.I program this spring.

Here is a home grown bull that we sold to Don Grant a few years back, then bought a share back in to be able to use in our pro-gram. PlayBoy is a calving ease bull that we used with great suc-cess in the heifer pen and is out of the Blue Grass bull who is also a heifer bull. PlayBoys dam was our son Jordan’s first 4H cow and has been a foundation female for us and always hits a homerun no matter what she is mated to. She is a large volume female with a beautiful front end. She has a ton of milk and has a dis-position that is second to none. Royal Flush is now owned by Alan Landaker and we were lucky enough to get Royal Flush bull back to use in our program. This is a very deep made calf. Smooth Talker is extremely clean fronted, a trait that Surge has passed on to all his sons. He has been a standout right from the start and that is why he was part of our show string. Third in his class at Dawson Fall Fair and a member of the reserve Pen of 3 bulls at PCBC. A real good calf that we have a lot of good things to say about. He may not be big-framed but he makes up for that in his stout-ness and rib shape. You will find that he may be one of the thick-est made bulls in the entire pen, and his weight shows it . This may be as good of a calving ease bull as you will find anywhere. Well, Colt’s old Porter cow has done it again, out-producing herself year after year. At the age of 12 she still looks and pro-duces like a young cow. She has solid feet that we have never touched and a picture perfect udder. She truly is an ideal cow in our minds. We used NLC Upgrade on some of our thickest cows. This calf of Colby’s is long-spined, wide-topped, carrying tremendous mus-cle and extremely clean through the front end. He was showed at Dawson Creek (where he was bull calf Champion), Farmfair and he was Reserve Cattlemens Choice Bull at the Peace Coun-try Beef Congress. He comes from a tremendous producing cow. This calf may have the most potential of any calf we have on offer, you would never believe that he was born March 18th. He fits in with all the January calves and thats why he was chosen as the third member of our champion pen of 3. The females this guy will produce are going to be second to none. His dam is one of our most powerful cows when it comes to capacity and ud-der quality. Kyle selected her out of Porters Reduction Sale and she has shown she can produce as good as any. You will see how consistent she produces as her son from 2011 will be our lone 2yr old entry into the sale this year (Lot 73). She also has a son working at Matt Hedge’s great herd. Here is our only IPU Exciter son this year. We lost Exciter two years ago and were able to retain a little semen to AI in the heifer pen. He may be the darkest red calf in our offering and has a great hair coat. This guy weaned off his first-calf mother at over 800lbs. That goes to show the production this little cow has and we’re pretty happy with how she has produced in her first outing. She has a perfect udder and excellent feet. She is also a maternal sister to the 18Z (Lot 67) black bull calf. This guy is a real smooth, deep made bull that is going to make a consis-tent set of calves.

This dark red, goggle-eyed calf has been a standout from the beginning, and still catches your eye when you walk through the bulls. He may not be the biggest bull in the pen but carries a lot of muscle shape and stoutness over the top. The lone son in this year’s sale off of the Fired up bull that was a feature in last year’s sale going to Double RN Ranching, Tyler Farms and Pat Mckinnon. We kept some semen on him and he’ll be seeing more use this year in the AI pen. The few daughters off Fired Up are beautiful heifers and at the top of the pen. The Grand champion 4H steer at PCBC was also a Fired Up son, pretty good on his first year. And watch for a feature red son off Fired Up in next year’s sale, he is one of the stoutest we have raised. 21Z is a highly fleck influenced bull that is going to add some pigment to his calves. Another one of those dark red factor Thunderheart calves that will turn heads. This guy is most likely the deepest made of the Thunder-hearts and will make a lot of friends. His maternal brother from last year was the lead off and a high seller at $8000 to Fallen Timber Farms. The Velocity calf from last year made quite of few friends this past show season at Dawson Creek and Farm Fair. Ask Chet and Jamie how he has turned out for them, and I am sure you will hear nothing but good. The mother of these two bulls is extremely clean-fronted and is real long -bodied. She really knows how to milk as this guy is just an end of Feb-ruary calf and looks like a January. He has a lot of performance and will make you a sweet looking set of steers. Polled and half fleck, can it get much better than that from a commercial guy’s standpoint?
