Program Policies: Registration is only open to participants in a Cooperative Extension Service Master Gardener Program (one guest permitted). Enrollment will be limited to 25 total (Master Gardeners and guests), available on a first come basis with a $500 deposit required, beginning November 11, 2014. Advanced Master Gardener Training hours will be credited to those Purdue University Master Gardeners who complete the required reading assignments and quizzes. Master Gardener participants may also earn volunteer service hours upon their return by sharing what they’ve learned with others. Mike also leads an undergrad summer course on History, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture in England. Rosie has led several gardening-related tours to Europe and in the US. introduction to the course, we’ll board our motorcoach and head north to Chatsworth, a landscape representing the styles of three centuries. Later, we continue on to Harrogate in North Yorkshire. (B,D)

Thursday, July 9 - The scenic and rugged Lakes District is our destination for this day, including a visit to the world famous topiary garden at Levens Hall. We’ll enjoy lunch overlooking Coniston Water. (B,L)

Friday, July 10 - A contemporary garden designed by Piet Oudolf, located in a historic context at Scampston Hall, is our morning’s activity. Later, we’ll enjoy a completely new garden creation at the Breezy Knees Nursery which will immerse us in a luxurious plant palette. (B,L)

Saturday, July 11 - Studley Royal is one of the 17th century’s fi nest English Landscape Gardens, with its strong emphasis on formalized water. Our morning visit will include exploring the ruins of an 11th century Cistercian monastery, Fountains Abbey, that serves as a terminating focal element in the garden plan. Later, you’ll have free time to explore Harrogate. Perhaps visit, on your own, the nearby RHS Harlow-Carr or the Valley Gardens. (B)

Sunday, July 12 - Today, we’ll experience Castle Howard, a seminal example of the evolution of landscape style on a grand scale at the end of the 16th century featuring design work by the architect Vanbrugh and implementation by the builder Hawksmoor. Later, we pay a visit to York Gate Garden, a petite gem of a late 20th century residential garden. (B,D)

Monday, July 13 - We say farewell to Yorkshire and as we move toward Wales, we’ll have fun at the eclectic, Victorian-era Biddulph Grange Garden, including visits to “China” and “Egypt” and the “stumpery”, followed by a stop at David Austin Roses, home of the modern English rose. Our country hotel near Shrewsbury is our evening’s destination. (B, D)

Tuesday, July 14 - After several days of “go-going” we’ll have this day to rest, walk the countryside, and explore Shrewsbury, a medieval town that is Darwin’s birthplace. (B,D)

Wednesday, July 15 - Bodnant Garden, in northwest Wales is our destination on this day. Its robust plant collections, deep cool valley and trails, and the beautiful views of Snowdonia will give us a full day of feast for the eyes. (B,L)

Thursday, July 16 - On the border between England and Wales is Powis Castle, our day’s destination. Well known for its plant-rich terraces and informal mounded yew hedges, it holds much more in store for the garden lover and historian. Later, we’ll move over to our new hotel near Coventry. (B,D)

Friday, July 17 - On this day, we step way back in history to Tudor times as we enjoy Robert Dudley’s garden made for the fi rst Queen Elizabeth, authentically re-created at Kenilworth Castle, set amid the castle ruins. Then, to conclude our garden adventure, we leap forward to modern organic gardening at Ryton Gardens where we enjoy our farewell meal together. Later, we’ll return to our Heathrow hotel to prepare for tomorrow’s fl ight home or a continuation of travels. (B,L)

Single Travelers:We strongly encourage participants to travel with a

companion.If you are a single traveler and interested in sharing a room, at your request we will share your contact information with others looking for a roommate. We cannot guarantee availability of a roommate; single supplement will apply if a roommate is not available.

Payment Schedule & Refund Policy: A $500 per person deposit is required to reserve space in the class. The fi nal balance will be due in full on March 15, 2015. Once the course reaches the enrollment limit of 25, a waiting list will be maintained. Although fees are generally non-refundable after Jan. 15, 2015, a refund MAY be issued IF a replacement from the waiting list is available to take your spot.

How to Register For This Course: Reservations will accepted on a fi rst come/fi rst served basis on-line or by telephone. Registration is open only to Master Gardeners or MG interns (one guest permitted, MG and guest registeration must be coordinated.) A $500 per person deposit is required to complete each registration. Registration will begin at 1:30 pm EST on November 11, 2014. .

link to complete the registration form. A “time stamp” will be af-fi xed when you hit the “submit” button to indicate your registra-tion priority. Do not begin fi lling out the on-line form until 1:30 pm on November 11. Any entries befofre that time will be lost.

Your registration priority will be time-stamped once you have completed provid-ing your registration details.
