The Spring Tour is now behind us; what a memorable event! I heard a lot of positive comments. Thanks to all the volunteers and participants that helped make it a success.

We have a variety of events coming up, so please check the schedule in this is-sue.

The Hale Farm and Village Car Show, scheduled for 8/23, will have a new look. The cars will be displayed within the village and a swap meet will be added. Therefore additional volunteers are needed. If you can help, please con-tact Dave Heinrichs, show Chairman.

We also need to think about next year’s election of officers. The positions open for next year include President, Vice

President and Trustee. I am presently finishing my third term as President. Since it’s only fair to share, I extend the invitation so that others can experience the joy of this office. Should you be in-terested, please inform Judith Bender of our nominating committee. Or just call me.

As always, thank you for the opportu-nity to be part of this organization.

Friday evening the men learned the history of the Stearns and Stearns-Knight automobiles. The ladies enjoyed Donna Cardwell’s col-lection of antique silk embroidered linens and table-cloths. There was so much to enjoy and learn that her program eagerly lasted 1 & 3/4 hours.

Saturday Morning we headed to Crawford Maintenance Facility in Macedonia for a guided tour by Al Unrein. There was so much to see and enjoy (especially for the men). Refreshments were served. Next, we traveled to the Kent University Museum. Fascinating and beauti-ful fashion, embroidered gowns and ethnic apparel, and

Special Report: Northern Chapter Club History Sought

Page 5 Nor thern Exposure I ssue 3

Dear Region President: Next year is a historical year for AACA as we will be celebrating out 75th Anniversary! The history of our club along with our region and chapters should make an interesting story to tell and we want to do just that! However, we want to make our past come alive in a unique way. As such, the contemplated book we will be doing will have a twist in the story telling. Here is where you come in. We want a story about your region or chapter. However, you have the free-dom to tell us the most interesting things about your group whether it is a special event you did, a regular event you hold, a special character in your club, the unique history or anything else that you think might be of interest to our readers.

Put yourself in their place and think about what YOU would enjoy reading. Give us some great pictures to go along with the story. Be creative! Tell us your story in your way. Please send your information to [email protected] WE NEED THIS INFOR-MATION BY JUNE 30TH…IMPORTANT DEADLINE. Contact Steve Moskowitz at [email protected] if you have any questions or call 717-534-1910 Thanks, Steve

As part of the AACA’s 75th Anniversary celebration in 2010, each Region and Club is asked to submit a history

of its founding, key events and notable milestones.

Club members are invited to contact the Editor with information—big or small—to contribute to completing the Club’s his-tory. We especially would appreciate pictures of early Club events.

Some questions we seek to answer include:

Who were the founding members of the Northern Chapter?

What year was the Chapter formed?

How many members were in the Chapter at the end of the first year?

In what year was the first chapter-organized car show or tour?

Who are the Chapter’s longest-standing mem-bers?

What members have served as the Club’s Presi-dents?

Spring Tour (continued)

antique glass were especially appreciated by the ladies. Twin Lakes Country Club was our lunch stop with a lovely view of the lake and golf course. We then traveled to down-town Akron. There we experienced the unique huge collec-tion of Bob Jones from antique auto-mobiles to signs, gas pumps, and memorabilia, etc. Refreshments again were served. The day ended with our banquet. We enjoyed delicious food, wonderful big band sound entertainment, door prize raffle, 50/50 raffle and brief business meeting.

Our own John Gerken received his 50 Year Membership Pin at the banquet. Joe Gagliano, representing the Na-

tional An-tique Auto-mobile Club of America, presented John his pin. His wife, Emily, and his son, Jack, were in atten-dance to help John celebrate this special award.

Sunday morning many of our members traveled to Hud-son before heading home to visit Bill and Rosalind Tecco’s home. There we enjoyed his car collection, his new machine shop and new car repair building. This is an interesting and convenient set-up for his antique car hobby.

The Northern Chapter Officers want to thank all of our members for their help and support and for their door prize donations and hospitality room snacks.

Make sure you and your region/chapter members have your

email addresses on file to receive our new monthly publication

the AACA Speedster. In January we will publish our 3rd edi-

tion and it appears that our members are really enjoying it. We

are able to give you important information on a very timely

basis. Make sure you open these emails and click on all the

links. Also, this is not spam so make sure you are getting it!

The club has lots of new merchandise so check out our store

on the website. www.aaca.org continues to be one of the

best kept secrets in our club. There is a wealth of news, fun on

the forums and information about the club. Hopefully in 2009

we will complete an “extreme makeover” of the site as well.

Speaking of merchandise, please let us know if there is some-

thing you would really like to see us produce. We have some

new signs and new clothing items we think you really will like.

We have run into a serious roadblock on our AACA author-

ized Revell model car kits but hope to resolve that as well. We

are looking at a collector series of jigsaw puzzles of Antique

Automobile covers and are already gearing up for 75th anni-

versary merchandise.

If you have not seen two special offerings you really should.

Go to www.mycarfever to purchase a great CD of this year’s

“Hershey”. You will really enjoy this lengthy video and will

probably see a few of your friends throughout the show. Also,

the jacket offered at www.hotrodjacket.com is nothing short

of phenomenal. It is a bit pricey but be assured that you will

not find a better quality letterman jacket anywhere and it is

handmade in the USA!

Make sure you keep up with all the changes in our Library and

Museum. We have new leadership at the top and they will be

bringing fresh ideas to the AACA family. We will miss Kim

dearly but Chris Ritter, our new librarian, brings a youthful

mind set to how we operate and he has some exciting plans.

Holly Bedsole at the museum is a real “car guy” and she, as

well, has a huge “can do” spirit so we can expect our museum

to move forward in some exciting ways.

We have a unique perspective at headquarters as most every-

thing club related eventually passes through our office. One

thing is very obvious to us. Those regions who really want to

grow and add membership find ways to do so! Inspired leader-

ship all around the country have proven that clubs can grow

even if they have been stagnant in the past. With the four free

memberships provided each year, a new half year membership

and a benefit package that is not remotely matched by any car

club in the country there is no reason for AACA not to be

increasing our ranks in large chunks. Just yesterday we heard

of the possibility of a club gaining 100 new members by join-

ing forces with a non-AACA club. Obviously the member-

ships of both of those clubs are very progressive. Your region

and AACA need an aggressive campaign to grow and provide

activities to keep the enjoyment of our hobby at a high level.

Make a personal commitment to make this happen in 2009!

As always, we are only a phone call, letter or email away if you

need anything or have any ideas for us. Thanks and have a

happy and healthy new year!

Hale Farm Car Show

Each member of the Northern Chapter

can help us obtain sponsors for the

Hale Farm Car Show. Please mention

the show to all of the car related

businesses with whom you deal. That

could include mechanics, parts

stores, dealerships, as well as

other members of the car hobby. The

cost of a sponsorship is a minimum

of $50 (some generous sponsors give

more). For a sponsorship the donor

gets a listing in the program and we

place his advertising material in

the registration package. This

gives instant exposure to all the

dedicated car nuts who register for

the show.

If you know someone who might be in-

terested in being a sponsor, contact

Robert Dreifort at 216-514-8840 or

[email protected].
