Who are we? Northwest Datsun Enthusiasts (NWDE—pronounced

‘nude’) is an organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment

of all Datsun/Nissan vehicles. We meet monthly and try to schedule

automotive/social activities on a monthly basis (see Calendar of Upcom-

ing events). We are members of the Western Washington Sports Car

Council (WWSCC). NWDE is not affiliated with Nissan Motor Compa-

ny, Ltd.

NWDE at Return to Renton. 7-8-18

Good turnout of 8 Datsuns today for the Re-

turn to Renton car show.

4 roadsters, 2 trucks, a Z and a 510.

Lots of attention to our Datsuns. The NWDE

banners were effective.

Over 400 cars. Weather was perfect.

Thanks to Don, Antonio, Lachlan, John V, Jex,

Mike, Ted

and Z guy Steve for attending and supporting

NWDE.

FINE Mt Shasta Datsun Roadster Meet July 12-14 2018

The Thursday night ice cream social was well attended with 10000

calorie

ice cream hand made by SU carb GURU, Keith Williams.

Great turnout of 15 roadsters for the Friday morning drive. Mid 90's

F.

Did a short drive due to the heat. Up the road to 8000' and cooler

temp on Mt Shasta.

Large turnout of 30 roadsters at the Friday night welcome recep-

tion.

Great Mt Shasta roadster meet in downtown Mt Shasta on Saturday.

Hot. 94F.

2 new restorations were the highlight of the Meet.

A just completed low windshield restoration (red) and a sora blue

67.5 2000 .

The only early Datsun was the cute 63 312 wagon.

Turnout was a little light. 35 roadsters and 6 other Datsuns on the

street.

Thanks to NWDE and DROPS Roadster owners for attending and

supporting the show.

Mt Shasta Datsun Roadster Meet 7-14-18


Dan R Swims and drives to Shasta.

Packed and ready for a 9 day road and swim trip.

Travel tonneau on and Red Bull ready

for the drive to Portland.

Tomorrow am swimming the 11 mile Portland Bridges

swim.

Sunday was a success. Placed 18 overall out of 86.

Won 60-64 age group by 24 minutes.

Quick drive to Hood River with a couple of stops.

Morning stop complete lunch at Burgerville.

Then south to John Day

Just after taking the attached picture the car wouldn't run.

Tried calling AAA but cell service was too weak.

Parked the car in a farmstead drive and walked down the

drive

to ask to use the phone. Got a hold of AAA and spent an

hour

and a half talking to the lady who owned the farmstead.

Once I was talked out I went to the car.

It was now in the shade.

So I tried to start it and it started on the 2nd try.

When AAA arrive I ask them to follow me to John Day.

He said it was 98 today.

Dan R Swims and drives to Shasta.

Car ran fine and I arrived just before the restaurants closed.

Called Ted while I waited for my dinner

and I have instructions to remedy to the problem.

No issue today and about 10-15 degrees cooler.

Easier day today. Made it to Madras by 3:45 and temps

in 80s. Visisited the John Day fossil beds visitor center

and then the painted hills.

Madras to Sweet Home for Foster Lake 2 mile swim.

Day started with a visit to Erikson Aircraft Collection

at the Madras Airport. Afterwards a drive to Sisters

and over McKenzie Pass to Sweet Home.

Just got home, another 12 hour drive. 5 am to 5 pm.

Beat the Oregon heat wave, thus no fuel issues.

Diverted at Chehalis, no great traffic issues,

but extra distance and time.

I prefer moving vs stop and go traffic for 60 miles.

From Renton took Rainer ave and MLK to Madison & a

drive thru the arboretum.

Great week and a new list of things to fix.

1672 miles total with 563 on the return home.


Dan R drives and swims to Shasta

Tech Department.

Dan R experience vapor lock on his Shasta

Tour..

He has been driving his roadster for 3 years

without this problem but his trip was

through HOT (high 90’s) central Oregon.

He was unable to continue to John Day with

the roadster stuttering, running poorly and

finally stalling and not restarting. After the

roadster and driver cooled down the road-

ster started and drove ok.. To reduce heat on

the rubber fuel lines he bought some heat

reflective tape and wrapped the lines above

the exhaust manifold. This appeared to help

but the weather got cooler and he had a re-

occurrence of the problem near Mt Shasta

When it was hot and was stuck behind slow

trucks up a long hill. The problem did not oc-

cur at Shasta or on the way home.

Dan is getting some better heat reflective

sleeves for new fuel lines, Fuel pump rebuild

kit and a new carb heat shield to attempt to

resolve the problem.


Here is a link to the Heat reflective tape that Dan

R purchased.

Bought the Velcro seam version because it is

listed to fit 1/4"ID-1/2" OD hose.

Also got some 3/4" for the 5/16" ID bypass hose.

U20 Cam cover. Rivet in the "C". Solex

Sound Uncracked Excellent condition desira-

ble early rare U20 cam cover.

NO vacuum line clip hole. Early short vent

hose mount.

Throttle cable clip.NO cracks around the

mounting bolt

holes or oil filler hole.

Some minor scratches. 4 minor dings/gouges

from the

throttle cable etc. Not cleaned or polished.
