TODAY: May 17, 2012 Young Writers Conference Winner On April 4, 2012, the School Based Health Center (SBHC) launched here at Northwest! Applications were to be submitted to Ms. Portley in order to participate. The SBHC operates every other Wednesday in the conference room (12) from 12:30 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. It is run like a portable clinic. Some items are stored here in the building. The remaining dates we have for the year will be May 16, May 30 and June 6. There is a new mentoring program here at Northwest that meets every Tuesday. S.N.A.P.B.A.C.K CONQUERS (Support Nurturing & Assistance, Promoting Behavior & Attitude Change in Kansas) is a program that is sponsored by New Bethel Church's After School Program & Bodylicious Fitness Center. The mission is to promote behavioral, emotional and social growth in youth by providing knowledge through the introduction of the latest psychological, research studies and finding. There are still spots available. If you have not turned in your application, it’s not too late! If you need a new application, please see Ms. Portley in room 12 for more information.

Recently, Mrs. Vaverka received brand new books for the library and they are continually coming. They are ready and available for checkout! Books can be checked out manually in the library or on an iPad by going to the eReader and going to the library page. If there is a book in the library that you would like to check out, but don’t see, please let Mrs. Vaverka know and she would be happy to order it for you! The best time to let her know is during book fair week.

The highly anticipated, second annual Northwest staff/student talent show is on its way! This year, the show is comprised of 19 acts, ranging from song and dance, to magic tricks and comedy. There will even be poetry as well as a step team. On Friday, May 25

th,

this show will prove to be the highlight of the year, as staff and students showcase their talents. Remaining rehearsal dates are as follows: Thursday, May 17, Tuesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 24. All practices and the actual show will be held in the auditorium.
