With the 2014-2015 lineup, the Norton Center continues to present top artists fromaround the globe. From award winners, celebrities, and virtuosic performers to innovators and Broadway’s best, our aim is to ensure that the programmatic varietyon our stages is always as strong as the artistic quality.
WelcOmeAll live performing arts venues have three things in common: an area where peopleperform, an area where people watch, and the space surrounding the two. Your experience at the Norton Center is different because we make every effort to bringyou as close to the stage as possible! How do we do it?
Our theatres are intimate spaces. With only about 1,470 seats in Newlin Hall and 370seats in Weisiger Theatre, world-class artistry is literally at your fingertips. The acousticsin both theatres (with much thanks to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s incrediblearchitecture) consistently provide clear sound, whether acoustic or amplified, spokenword or music. Newlin Hall’s Orchestra level has only nine rows, making it and muchof the Grand Tier balcony feel like front-row seats. With the Weisiger Theatre’s structuraldesign, its eight rows wrap around three quarters of the performance space and audience members are practically on stage with the artists.
Our artists interact with the campus and community. The Norton Center makesevery effort to encourage visiting artists to participate in engagement activitiessuch as post-show talk-backs, lecture/demonstrations, workshops and masterclasses, panel discussions with Centre faculty and community leaders, and mini-performances at venues outside of the Norton Center such as the Boyle County Public Library or McDowell Place Senior Center.
From the front row to the last, our hope is that these uniquely Norton Center featuresresult in a stronger and more memorable performance experience.
We hope to see you at many of this season’s Norton Center performances!

For two centuries, the United States
Marine Band has been present for
those events which have shaped our
national heritage. Its omnipresent role
in events of national importance have
made it part of the fabric of American
life. Established by an act of Congress
on July 11, 1798, the Marine Band’s
primary mission has remained to
provide music for the President of the
United States and the Commandant of
the Marine Corps. As the only musical
organization with that mission, the
Marine Band looks to the future,
viewing its history and traditions as
foundations on which to build into
its third century of bringing music to
the White House and to America.
The Marine Band travels across the
country each year during its fall
concert tour, a tradition that began in
1891 under its most famous director,
composer John Philip Sousa.

Straight from the Las Vegas strip and smash hit performances on NBC’s
America’s Got Talent, Recycled Percussion is taking the Newlin Hall
stage by storm, defining a new genre of music called ‘Junk Rock’ by
making catchy beats on bizarre, everyday objects. Formed in 1995
by band leader Justin Spencer, Recycled Percussion combines
extreme percussion, engaging humor, and extraordinary
athleticism similar to that of STOMP and Blue Man Group. The
band has played over 4,000 shows in more than 15 countries, and
also done guest appearances on Carson Daly, The Today Show,
and the Latin Grammy Awards. After being featured on the front
page of USA Today and being voted National Act of the Year
a record-breaking six times, the band gained
worldwide recognition. The show has been rocking
audiences for over two years in Las Vegas, and
will embark on its first U.S. tour this fall.
Whether they’re playing on buckets,
ladders, grinders or sinks, Recycled
Percussion’s boundless energy
and creativity will blow you away.
Audience members will be given
instruments and encouraged to

Bassist/composer Edgar Meyer and
mandolinist/composer Chris Thile return
to the Norton Center—this time as a
duo, crossing traditional boundaries
in a diverse program of largely
original music. These two MacArthur
Fellows have collaborated on several
critically acclaimed projects including
their 2014 duo recording; Yo-Yo
Ma’s Grammy®-winning Goat Rodeo
Sessions; a 2008 recording of original
compositions; and, most recently,
Chris Thile’s 2013 solo recording,
Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1,
produced by Meyer. A child prodigy,
Thile first rose to fame as a member of
the Grammy® Award-winning trio
Nickel Creek, with whom he released
four albums and sold two million records.
Mr. Meyer’s previous performing and
recording collaborations include a duo
with Béla Fleck; a quartet with Joshua
Bell, Sam Bush and Mike Marshall; a
trio with Béla Fleck and Mike Marshall;
and a duo with Mark O’Connor for the
1996 Appalachia Waltz release. Meyer
previously performed at the Norton
Center with the Chamber Music
Society of Lincoln Center, and Thile
with his band, Punch Brothers.

The sharp-dressed men of legendary rock band ZZ Top are
bringing their signature mix of Southern rock, blues and
boogie, to the Norton Center this fall. Guitarist Billy F.
Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard are
currently touring the country in support of their first studio
album in nine years, La Futura. ZZ TOP’s music is always
instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly
soulful, and 100% Texas American in derivation. They’ve
been thrilling audiences since the group’s inception in
1969 and can lay the undisputed claim to being the
longest running major rock band with original members
intact. Their unmistakable sound and attitude have
garnered them legions of fans and cemented their status
as cultural icons with popular hits including, “Sharp Dressed
Man,” “La Grange,” “Legs,” “Gimme All your Lovin’,” and
“Tube Snake Boogie.” These Rock and Roll Hall of Famers
have sold millions of records over the course of their
career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The
State of Texas, have been referenced in countless cartoons
and sitcoms and are true rock icons but, against all odds,
they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. They’re
real and they’re surreal and they’re ZZ Top.

The Russian State Symphony Orchestra (RSSO),
known in Russia as the State Symphony Capella
of Russia, was established in 1991. Its founding
followed a merge of the State Symphony
Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture and the
USSR State Chamber Choir. Under the direction of
Music Director Valeri Polyansky, the RSSO is now
most known for its strict discipline of the ensemble,
the warmth of its timbre, and excellent balance
between sections, as well as the subtlety of
nuance evident in its performances. In their
Central-Kentucky debut, the Orchestra will be
joined by one of the most versatile musicians
of our time: pianist Vladimir Feltsman, who
has performed at Carnegie Hall and the White
House and worked with the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of
Lincoln Center, and the Moscow Philharmonic.
The program will include: Tchaikovsky’s
Slavonic March, Op. 3; Rachmaninoff’s Piano
Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18; and
Prokofieff’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major,
Op. 100.

Celebrating its 60th
season, the Paul Taylor Dance Company,
directed by the greatest living pioneer of
American modern dance, visits the Norton
Center for the first time ever this season.
Extolled as “a marvel” and “the center
of American modern dance” (New York Times),
the iconic Paul Taylor produces dances consistently
regarded as masterpieces. His prodigious output
includes more than 140 works over the course of six
decades, with choreography that runs the gamut—
lyrical, dark, ironic, silly, nostalgic, and outright
funny—but each piece is always a journey
orchestrated by genius. Paul Taylor’s primary
company’s performance on the Newlin Hall
stage will feature the Kentucky premiere of
American Dreamer, a brand new work
created in 2013 set to the music of
Kentucky’s own, Stephen Foster, as
well as classic and entertaining Taylor

As the first organist ever nominated
for a Grammy® Award for a solo
album, Cameron Carpenter is
shattering boundaries in new
music. He is a virtuoso composer-
performer whose approach to the
organ is virtually unprecedented,
and his repertoire—from the
complete works of J. S. Bach and
Cesar Franck to his hundreds of
transcriptions of non-organ works,
his original compositions and his
collaborations with jazz and pop
artists—is perhaps the largest and
most diverse of any organist. As a
keyboard prodigy, he performed
Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at
age 11 and now holds a master’s
degree from The Juilliard School.
Cameron’s goals are anything but
modest: the brash, outspoken, and
phenomenally talented musician
and composer wants the organ
recognized as a premier recital
instrument on par with violins and
pianos. As with most trailblazers,
Carpenter has energy and vision
equal to his talent and a knack
for engaging audiences of all
ages that simply underscores his
commitment and passion for
his work. Cameron will perform a
mixed repertoire of traditional
classical music, original compositions
and arrangements, and other
selected works on the Norton Center’s
very own pipe organ as well as on
his newly created International
Touring Organ.

Bringing its signature style and dynamic
approach, Aquila re-imagines one of
the most famous love stories ever told
with this heart-wrenching new production.
Set on the wild, windswept Yorkshire
moors, Emily Brontë’sWuthering Heights
is the story of free-spirited Catherine and
dark, brooding Heathcliff. As children,
they are inseparable and, with time, their
affection deepens into a passionate
love. But Catherine lets her head rule
her heart as she chooses to marry the
wealthy Edgar Linton. Heathcliff flees the
moors broken-hearted only to return
years later as a wealthy man, but is it too
late for them? Over a century and a half
after it was published, Brontë’s magnum
opus remains an incredibly moving
and classic tale of love, passion, and
revenge. Impeccable design and a
unique physical style combine with a
marvelous cast to make Wuthering
Heights an exquisite and captivating
theatrical experience.
