NORWICH ARTS EVENTS COMMITTEE DRAFT Strategic Plan 4.22.2015

MISSION     Utilize  the  rich  arts  and  cultural  assets  to  provide  positive  economic  impact  for  the  City  of  Norwich

VISION   Norwich  is  a  community  where  the  arts  are  an  easily  recognizable  part  of  the  community,  with  well-‐communicated  programs  and  where  arts  feel  welcome  to  present  their  work.

GOALS Norwich  has  formed  an  Arts  Events  Committee,  which  has  identified  and  prioritized  the  following  issues  and  goals  to  satisfy  the  mission  and  vision.

ISSUE GOAL

There  is  a  need  to  have  an  organization  take  a  leadership  role  in  administering  the  strategic  plan  to  ensure  that  all  groups  remain  focused  on  the  objectives  of  the  plan.   1. Develop  arts-‐based  beautification  projects

There  is  a  lot  to  do  in  Norwich  but  it  is  not  always  well  communicated.  There  is  a  need  for  a  purposeful  commitment  to  marketing  of  arts,  cultural  and  heritage  events  and  activities.

2. Manage  perception  of  Norwich  Promote  arts,  cultural  and  heritage  events  and  activities

Norwich  has  a  history  of  arts  programs  and  places  with  great  art.  However,  there  are  places  in  the  City  that  look  vacant  and  neglected.  Art  should  be  utilized  to  beautify  the  city.

3. Promote  arts,  cultural  and  heritage  events  and  activities

Norwich  has  several  perception  problems,  which  include  lack  of  parking,  that  the  city  is  dirty,  etc.  There  is  a  need  to  address  the  issues  that  are  commonly  referenced.   4. Create  program  with  staff  and  volunteers

Arts  are  a  known  economic  engine.  Norwich  arts  programs  are  not  being  fully  utilized.  Norwich  lacks  a  coordinated  approach  for  the  arts.  Such  approach  is  needed.

5. Identify  organization  to  be  project  administrator
