NOTES FROM FATHER CHUCK
Saint Peter’s Catholic Church HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY May 27, 2018
MEMORIAL DAY MASS This a reminder that the Memorial Day mass will be held at St. Joseph’s cemetery on this Monday, May 28 at 9:00 a.m. If there is rain the mass will be held at St. Peter’s at 9:00 a.m. This mass is a won-derful celebration for the Council Bluffs Catholic community. Please plan to attend so that we can remember all of our loved ones who have gone be-fore us to heaven. This also is an opportunity for us to honor all those who have served our country in the military. Please remember the cemetery collec-tion. Last year we were very blest to have a gener-ous collection to help with the upkeep of the ceme-tery. St. Joseph’s is one of the holiest places in Council Bluffs.
FATHER MONAHAN Father Monahan has had his faculties as a priest restored. What this means is that he is once again able to celebrate all the sacraments and especially to celebrate the Eucharist. It is wonderful to have Father Monahan celebrating mass again. These past two years have been difficult for Father and for the entire Catholic community. Thank you for all your prayers for Father. It is a great blessing that justice has been served for Father Monahan.
BIBLE QUESTION ANSWERS 1. When Jesus broke a few loaves of bread and a few fish to feed the 5,000 men not counting women and children there were five barley loaves, which was the bread of the poor, and two fish. I think the fish were walleyes. 2. The way that Judas identified Jesus was with a kiss. The reason that he kissed Jesus was to distin-guish Jesus from James since they were similar in appearance. 3. The reason why Pilate chose to condemn Jesus to death was because the high priests told the crowd to ask for his crucifixion. 4. The language that the bible was written in was Greek.
MAY CROWNING We celebrate May Crowning at all the weekend masses. May Crowning is one of the great tradi-tions of the Catholic church. I always think about the May Crowning from many years ago. One girl was always chosen to crown the Blessed Virgin Mary. The problem with that was that too often girls felt left out of the May Crowning. At our May Crown-ing we honor all the ladies of parish. As all the la-dies honor the Blessed Virgin Mary at all the masses.
PARISH COUNCIL
I still need two more people to serve on the parish council. The time is getting short to have new mem-bers as the parish council membership changes af-ter the June meeting. If you wish to enrich your life with God’s grace, serve on the parish council. Please contact me if you are interested.
A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING One of the most rewarding things about being at St. Peter’s is to celebrate a wedding of one of the girls who have grown up in the parish. This past Satur-day I celebrated the wedding of Kayla Beck and Bryan Cunningham. What makes this wedding so special is that the first baptism that I ever cele-brated was Kayla’s baptism. This is the first time that I celebrated the baptism, first communion, con-firmation and wedding of one of the members of our church. To complete the cycle I hope one day to baptize Bryan’s and Kayla’s children.
RUMMAGE SALE
The Altar Society rummage sale is one of the most enjoyable times at the church. I am always amazed at all of the things that people bring for the sale. I did find a treasure. I found a horse to match the one I had so now I have a team of white horses.
A THOUGHT I read this and it is a beautiful insight to our life in heaven. Prayer is a great way for us to understand what our life in the kingdom of heaven will be like. So I encourage everyone to spend some time this weekend in prayer as a preparation for our life in heaven.

☺CHRISTIAN HUMOR☺ There was an engineer who had an exceptional gift for fixing all things mechanical. After serving his company over 30 years, he retired. Several years later the company contacted him with a problem they were having with one of their multi-million dollar machines. They had tried eve-rything and everyone else to get the machine fixed, but to no avail. In desperation, they called on the retired engi-neer who had solved so many of their problems in the past. The engineer reluctantly took the challenge. He spent a day studying the huge machine. At the end of the day, he marked a small "x" in chalk on a particular compo-nent of the machine and proudly stated, "This is where your problem is." The part was replaced and the machine worked perfectly again. The company received a bill for $50,000 from the engineer for his service. They de-manded an itemized accounting of his charges. The engi-neer responded with the following account: Chalk: $1.00; Knowing where to put the 'X': $49,999.00.
