Problem Cause Solution

Paper jam occurs repeatedly atthe paper entrance of thefinisher.

A paper jam may occur whenpaper smaller than A4 andheavier than 348 g/m2 is fedinto the finisher in the verticalorientation.

When feeding paper smallerthan A4 and heavier than 348g/m2 into the finisher, load thepaper in the horizontalorientation to reduce the risk ofa paper jam. Also, change theoutput destination to the stackerto prevent paper jam fromoccurring when the paper size issmaller than B5.

Preprinted Paper

If you want to print on preprinted paper on which a frame or company name is printed, consult your sales representative or service representative.

When printing on preprinted paper, note the following:

• Toner may not adhere to preprinted images as well as it does to plain white paper.Check the print quality in advance.

• Before using preprinted paper, check that the ink is completely dry. Also, make sure thatthe ink does not transfer to the rollers and make the inside of the machine dirty.

• Before using preprinted paper, check that the inside of the machine is not smeared withpowder, which is used to prevent ink set-off or blocking.

• The machine does not support preprinted paper on which images and/or text areprinted using toner. However, you can use paper preprinted by a machine that uses thesame toner.

• To print on paper on which a frame is printed, print in an area 2.5 mm (0.10 inches) ormore from the frame.

• If the sheets stick together, fan the stack of sheets, and then load it in the paper tray. Fordetails about how to fan paper, see page 15 "Loading Paper".

1. Notes for Users

16

Page 19: Notes for Users - Ricoh

Major precautions about ink used for preprinted paper are as follows:

• Use a non-volatile oil based and heat resistant ink for preprinted paper. Do not use inkthat melts, vaporizes, dissolves, or delaminates when exposed to heat. For details, seepage 6 "Resistance to Heat".

• Use the minimum amount of ink on preprinted paper. Use screen printing to print on largeareas.

• Do not use powders, such as corn starch, rosin, or talc, to dry ink on preprinted paper.

• Do not use the following types of ink on preprinted paper:

• Rapid binding ink

• Evaporative drying ink

• Low-temperature fixing ink

• Precipitation drying ink

• Penetration drying ink

• Soy ink

<Correction>

Preprinted Paper

When printing onto preprinted media from Offset or any Press that uses Anti-Offset Powder,Ricoh recommends using RT5100 Vacuum feed A3/LCIT for feeding of this media. Othermedia feeding systems may result in poor system performance due to contamination causedby use of Anti-Offset Powder. Consult your sales or service representative.

When printing on preprinted paper, note the following:

• Toner may not adhere to preprinted images as well as it does to plain white paper.Check the print quality in advance.

• Before using preprinted paper, check that the ink is completely dry.

• Preprinted media should use ink that is heat resistant* and designed for paper used inhigh-speed copy machines and laser printers.

• The machine does not support prints using toner. However, prints created on the samemodel can be used.

• Fan media thoroughly before loading into Paper drawers. page 6 "Resistance to Heat".

• Printing on colored paper or preprinted media may result in problems that may cause apaper jam. If this is the case, consult your service representative.

• We recommend using a print environment where the temperature is between 20 and 25°C and the relative humidity (RH) is between 40 and 50 %.

• We recommend storing paper in an environment where the temperature is between 20and 25 °C and the relative humidity (RH) is between 40 and 50 %.

Major precautions about ink used for preprinted paper are as follows:

• Minimize the use of ink for preprints (we recommend Coverage of 30% or lower). Usescreen printing to print on large areas.

• Minimize the use of powder to prevent offset of ink or blocking.

• Do not use the following types of ink on preprinted paper:
