T oday we begin the new church year as we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. The Gospel con nues the theme of the end mes, yet the first reading and the second speak of a new beginning. The

prophet Jeremiah tells us the day is coming when Judah and Jerusalem will be safe and all will dwell secure. In Paul’s le er to the Thessalonians we are told how we can make that new world dawn. Paul tells us, “conduct yourselves in ways pleasing to God”. When we do a new world of peace and jus ce will arise. Fear crushes our willingness to work for jus ce. This is the result of the a acks in Paris. We feel now that we need to separate ourselves from others rather than build bridges. The terrorists will have succeeded if we believe that all people who are different from us are evil. We are called to conduct ourselves in ways pleasing to the one God who is God over Chris ans, Muslims, Jews, etc. One way to confront our fear is to pray and ask God to open our hearts to his will. During Advent we invite you to join us for evening prayer on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM. This me of peaceful wai ng can lead us to service for others. I also would encourage you to join us for morning mass. The morning mass is now celebrated at 8:00AM at St. Kieran Church. This mass is celebrated Tuesday through Friday. We also do have a morning mass at St. Agnes on

Thursdays at 8:15 AM. This mass is celebrated with our school children and is a must if you want to experience the hope for the future which is our children. Please join us for these celebra ons. As we begin this year dedicated to God’s love and mercy, the sacrament of reconcilia on is the perfect way to embrace that love. Every Saturday we celebrate the Sacrament of Reconcilia on at 4:00 PM. Later in the month we will be celebra ng the sacrament of Reconcilia on with the parish as well. Now is the me to think about those we need to forgive and those we need to ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness strengthens the bonds that hold us together as families, coworkers, and parishioners. This Tuesday the St. Kieran Women’s club invites all the woman of the parish to their holiday party. The party begins at 7:00 PM and will include home baked goods and trivia games. “What reindeer had a shiny red nose?” If you can answer that you are ready for the party. Please bring an unwrapped toy to the party for one of our local chari es. Next Sunday is the recycling rally as well as the St. Kieran Coffee Shop. Last month I was able to stop by a er the 10:00 AM mass and was pleased by the tasty treats, coffee and most importantly all the parishioners who took me to relax and visit a er mass. Thanks to Ma Gornick and his commi ees who keep both the recycle rally and coffee shop going. Thanks to everyone who also donate treats to the coffee shop.

The St. Kieran Arts & Environment Committee has once again organized a means for the parish to be involved in decorating our church for Christmas.
