Notes from the Field: August-September, 2016 As the days grow shorter and the weather cools down, Heroes from all over the country are enjoying WWIA events in the great outdoors. During the August- September season, Purple Heart recipients have enjoyed dozens of world-class outdoor sporting events, from fly fishing in Montana, to upland bird hunting in Pennsylvania, to hunting gator at night down in the Florida swamps. WWIA has also held many successful fundraisers thanks to the generosity of communities who care. Read on to check out the amazing adventures our Heroes have enjoyed leading up to our fall season. Notes from the Field: August-September, 2016

As the days grow shorter and the weather cools down, Heroes from all over thecountry are enjoying WWIA events in the great outdoors. During the August-September season, Purple Heart recipients have enjoyed dozens of world-classoutdoor sporting events, from fly fishing in Montana, to upland bird hunting inPennsylvania, to hunting gator at night down in the Florida swamps. WWIA hasalso held many successful fundraisers thanks to the generosity of communitieswho care. Read on to check out the amazing adventures our Heroes have enjoyedleading up to our fall season.

CFC Campaign Kickoff

The Combined Federal Campaign, orCFC, held its first kickoff events inSeptember. CFC is the nation's largestemployee giving campaign for federalworkers and WWIA receives much of itssupport from this outstanding program.

WWIA Outreach Coordinators from all over the country have been speakingto US federal employees about our mission to heal combat-wounded veteransthrough the power of the great outdoors. If you are participating in this year'sCFC, don't forget to support WWIA, #94512!

Events and Fundraisers

5th Annual CampStillwater Bear HuntJuly 31-August 6The 5th Annual Camp Stillwater BlackBear Hunt gave four Heroes anopportunity to embark on a greatadventure in beautiful WashingtonState. In addition to connecting withnature, these Warriors were able tospend their downtime bonding and

creating lifelong friendships. Big thank you to hosts John and Dawn Koenig andguide Brian Bennett for making it happen. New friendships were created andmemories of a lifetime were made.

5th Annual Lake ErieTrophy WalleyeFishing August 5-8Hosted by Larry Fielder and theAmerican Legion Post 103, a smallgroup of Purple Heart veteransexperienced two full days of guidedfishing for walleye with local guides inAshtabula, Ohio. Before the fishingevent, these Heroes were escorted through Lake Shore Park led by a motorcycledriven by Capt. Gerald Cornelius of the Ashtabula Police Department, who servedas an Army Ranger in the Vietnam War. Members of the American Legion handedout American flags to spectators and supporters so they could display theirappreciation and wave to the veterans as they pass by. Events like this help ourAmerican Heroes connect with thankful and caring communities.

"This is a great organization doing a great thing for guys who don't get enough recognition for theirsacrifices. We all had a great weekend! Keep up the good work, WWIA."

2nd Annual N-BarRanch Fly FishingAugust 5-8The 2nd annual WWIA fly fishingevent at the N Bar Ranch in Montanawas an amazing trip where the guyscaught every species of trout possiblein this great state! They also wereable to enjoy some sight seeingwhich included a black bear visitoralong the Smith River. All the Heroeswere able to enjoy just abouteverything the great outdoors inMontana had to offer! Our sincerestthanks to the hosts at the N Bar

Ranch for this amazing opportunity.

"I want to provide a sincere thank you not just to the Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation, but to

all the individuals involved. Your generosity was simply remarkable. Land stretched over Gods Earth in

the World's best country managed and preserved with helping hands provided beautiful scenery,

A&W Free Float DayFundraiserAugust 6

A big thank you to Joan & Mike Reed andeveryone who donated at A&W in Phillipsfor Root Beer Float Day! On August 6,patrons received a free root beer floatand were able to donate to WoundedWarriors in Action and our Purple HeartHeroes, resulting in over $1,000 ofdonations! All proceeds raised will benefit WWIA operations at Camp Hackett inthe great state of Wisconsin

8th Annual Kipper Tool GolfTournament: Birdies forthe BraveAugust 18The Kipper Tool company invited WWIA toparticipate in their 8th annual charity golftournament. Our combat-wounded Heroesthoroughly enjoyed spending time with the

tremendous employees and friends of Kipper Tool for a great day on the course.After the tournament, Kipper Tool presented WWIA with a very generous $5,000donation! Pictured here is Lead Associate and Purple Heart recipient John Keeneyaccepting this wonderful gift. Thanks to these true Patriots, we can continue ourmission of providing world-class outdoor sporting activities to our Purple Heartveterans.

8th Annual FloridaGator HuntAugust 19-22Hosted in part by the Brevard CountyAirboat Association, American LegionRiders Post #81, and their friends, sixWounded Warriors had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to hunt gator at nightfrom airboats on the St. Johns River inMelbourne. The annual alligator huntis one of WWIA's most anticipatedhunts due to the unusual challengesthis type of stealth hunting offers. Inaddition to the hunt itself, the Heroes down in Melbourne were met by a thankfuland caring community of supporters. Brevard County Airboat Association, AmericanLegion and American Legion Riders Post 81, Brevard Country Sherriff's Departmentmotorcade, Hollywood Limousine of Brevard County, Boy Scout Troop #365, andOperation Outdoor Freedom are all to thank for donating their services andwelcoming the Heroes with open arms.

"The alligator hunt is great for bonding with other Warriors. It's all-weather, in the dark with primitiveweapons and airboats, stalking, sneaking under the cover of darkness-that's what we're used to.Before even 24 hours on an event, these guys are fighting together as a team."

Phillips Chain of LakesMusky Tournament August 19-21Mid-August saw the Phillips WI Steve SchneiderMemorial Tournament, with proceedsbenefitting WWIA. In addition to the tournamentitself, participants were welcome to join the funat Harbor View all day for great prizes andraffles. Special thanks to John Carlson from

Ross's Sports Shop and Guide Service, Birch Island Resort, Harbor View, St CroixRods and of course Bob Bolz for all his hard work and dedication to the Foundation.

2nd Annual GalvestonFishing Event August 26-29The 2nd Annual Galveston fishing tripwas a great success, due to the hardwork and dedication of hosts Brad andJulie Boisen, Buck, Marti, Kathy and allthose who helped put this eventtogether. Thanks to these incrediblehosts and volunteers, WWIA was ableto serve three deserving Heroes withtwo full days of guided fishing in theGulf of Mexico. As always, the greatstate of Texas provided world-class fishing and scenery. The weekend may be overbut a lot of good relationships have only begun.

"When you leave the fury and violence of the combat zone, it never really leaves you in your mind.Being able to participate in events like these WWIA fishing trips allows you to forget those times ofwar. Without question, the staff of WWIA are committed to helping wounded warriors cope with theburdens of war through recreational activities (hunting/fishing). I'll never forget the WWIA staff andtheir sincerity of heart and mind, and the renewed hope they have given me and other WoundedWarriors."

Arca Midwest Tour 100 September 3The Arca Midwest Tour was packed with high speedexcitement for two Purple Heart Heroes. MikeLichtfeld, driver of the WWIA car, had the secondfastest qualifying time out of 29 cars and at the endof the night, he brought his car home in 12th place.A huge thanks to the race team and Ed Schell for allof their support. Mike Lichtfeld Racing's #44 had

the best looking hood at the ARCA Midwest Tour race at Dells Raceway Park. In

addition to the race, there was a 50/50 raffle benefiting WWIA, which raised$1,000 for the Foundation! Thanks to everyone involved for providing this greatopportunity.

Botten's Green Acres Golf TournamentSeptember 3The 2nd Annual WWIAWisconsin Golf Tournamentat Botten's Green Acres GolfCourse was a great success.Hosted by our Bayfieldchapter, this event raisednearly $12,000! All proceedswill support the upcoming4th Annual Bayfield Castand Blast. Special thanks tosupporters andsponsors Grizz Works, Scottand Shawn O'Brien, Wayne Swanson, Mary L. Inaugural Purple Heartof the Bay CharityFishing Tournament September 10WWIA held its Inaugural Purple Heartof the Bay Charity Fishing Tournamentthe weekend of September 11th.Thanks to our sponsors and amazingvolunteers, this was an incredibleevent for everyone involved.

4th Annual PA Cast andBlast September 9-12Hosted by Sandy Deveney, inpartnership with Gravel Spring Lodgeand Fox Gap Rod and Gun Club, the 4thAnnual PA Cast & Blast was held nearRebersburg, PA. The Heroes on thisevent started their weekend with some

trap shooting on Friday, and had aspecial guest for Friday's dinner - JoshHull, former Penn State and St. LouisRams linebacker. Saturday morning,Congressman Glenn "GT" Thompsonmade a Capitol flag presentation toeach attendee before a day of uplandbird hunting. On Sunday, the Heroesrounded out the weekend with someworld-class fly fishing. Thanks toeveryone involved for providing a once-in-a-lifetime event for our Wounded Warriors in beautiful Pennsylvania.

Kuneytown Golf and Corn HoleFundraiser September 10-11In honor of 9/11, our Kuneytown partners held theKuneytown Charity Golf Tournament in the beautifulFinger Lakes of New York. All proceeds raised at thistournament and the related Corn Hole Fundraiser willsupport the 3rd Annual Kuneytown Ducks and Bucksevent in November. Thanks to the Boathouse BeerGarden for hosting and a big thank you to Keith andMoira Tidball and their team for making events likethis possible and for supporting our mission at

2nd Annual EagleRiver Muskie Chal-Lunge September 23-25All the heroes and their guideshad a blast taking in the beautifulscenery and catching somemonsters at the 2nd Annual EagleRiver Muskie Chal-Lunge. Thebiggest fish caught was 46 inches on a Joe Bucher Top Raider! WWIA would like tothank Scott Samuels, Eagle Waters Resort, Joe Bucher Outdoors, the All AmericansKids Club and all the awesome sponsors like St. Croix Rods, Daiwa, People's StateBank and many more for their support!
