Healing with Authenticityby Dee Wallace

It’s time. It’s time to claim our authenticity without apology. It’s time to give ourselves permission to be ok with us; unapologetically accepting who we are, how we think, what we want and how we look. To bravely, and joyfully, claim: This is me! This is my Bright Light. If I don’t claim it, I can’t be it, and I can’t shine it!

We are being challenged to release ourselves from the rules, regulations, and confines of a world that explicitly taught us to live within its definitions to be accepted. Those beliefs and rules were put into unwritten energetic law so long ago that no one really knows the origins anymore. We simply know the restrictions of joy and authenticity they placed us under and within. They are the rules that keep that still small voice within announcing, “be careful…are they watching? Are you doing what they think is right? Maybe I should monitor my joy and true feelings…etc. Not a very harmonious atmosphere for breeding authenticity.

Most of us don’t even know who we are authentically anymore. We haven’t been there, back to our Bright Light of Us, in a very long time. I think we stop being that full, unapologetic “us” around 3-4 years of age when the good old socialization process overcomes us and then…becomes us. The time when we knew what we wanted, when we wanted it, and asked for it suddenly wasn’t ok. And so we adjusted who we were to make “them” happy. We decided to become someone we really weren’t to please “them.” And then they convinced us that we had to please everyone by being someone different than who we were.

Authentically, I am a healer and a spiritual being. I am also a woman who loves sex, a glass of wine,

and occasionally lets rip from these very beautiful, dainty little lips a few choice words that would make my grandmother blush. I bet, authentically, she wanted to let them rip on occasion herself. I am now proud to proclaim all that I am. I suppose that comes with age and the experience that no matter what happens in life, you survive. It also comes from watching Cher and Donald Trump and Mother Teresa and Barack Obama and Charlie Sheen have the guts to be their authentic selves and win even when I am watching my own judgment around them doing it. Wow. I am watching them and judging just like I was being watched and judged. It’s contagious!

But I think we all know that we have a quiet honor for those who are fearless of what might happen if they did what they wanted. I want to give myself permission to be fearless in my truth, and not worry if someone agrees with my truth or not. Of course, it goes without saying that the reverse must be in place, also. That it is ok with me if I don’t believe in their truth. Then everybody gets to be authentic.

Authentically, I am a very Bright Light. My light was so bright that it challenged people as I got older. And I learned to “turn me down”. So did you. And now, authentically, I am turning me on again, baby! I am shining my truth. I am allowing me to break out of the fear of the rules and regulations of acceptance.

These are the rules that force young gay men to jump off bridges to escape ridicule. These are the rules that commit people to lives of unhappiness with partners that misuse them. These are the rules that demand we overachieve and become neurotic, obsessed people fighting nervous breakdowns.

These are the rules of the old energy. The new energy rule, if you will, is freedom from rules. It is the freedom to love ourselves just the way we are without apology or excuse. It is the power to stand by the claim, “I am awesome and magnificent and I love myself. Just the way I am.” And because I love myself unconditionally, I can love and accept you just the way you are, too. Because if I demand that you conform to “the rules” then I am not free to release my own judgment that binds me to them, also.

It’s really all about control. If there are enough rules and regulations in place we feel safer. We know what to expect and what is expected of us. The problem here is that it limits creativity, which limits creation, and ultimately limits the creation of us. We hold our personal creation within the limited old thought confines that created unauthentic lives in the first place. Any creative person will tell you that lack of freedom in acting, writing, dance, music, etc..; is death. If you cannot use the entire instrument of you the creative process becomes more mundane and unoriginal and, well, a lot less joyful to the creator. And that applies most assuredly to life.

Let us choose a new way. Let us think new unlimited thoughts that dare us to courageously be who we are, and proud of it. To stop in every moment and ask, “Is this the authentic me? Or the me I was told to limit in some way?” If we don’t step out in fearless authority in this claim of our real selves, we will never be able to replace the limiting thought that when we do live our true self, the world disapproves and we lose. When we step into our authentic selves knowing and believing that we always win in every way, quite possibly we will. Because the basic rule of life

is: As you believe, it will be delivered to you. I choose to believe I win when I am authentic. I invite you to do the same. If not now, when? And if not us, who?

The whole time I was ill I knew that the person acting in that strange way wasn’t really me. The real me wasn’t depressed, angry, manic or suicidal. The real me would never act in that horrible way, say those bizarre things, or hurt anyone or anything. The real me watched everything I did from above, aloof. And in the midst of manic episodes or the confusion of psychosis, some part of my consciousness would find that real me and go and be there, with that silent observer, strong, loving, detached, untouched.

In January 1999, after a several year struggle with depression and mania that culminated in a suicide attempt, I was diagnosed as Bipolar I with Severe Psychotic Effects. Wanting nothing more than to be better, to be truly me again and not a diagnosis, I religiously followed the advice of my doctors and counselors and began taking a cocktail of medications.

According to current Psychology, recovery from a mental illness means that the person, although still suffering psychosis, manias, and depressions, is taking their medications and able to go to work or school and lead a semi-productive life. That wasn’t good enough for me. I knew that the real me wasn’t full of manic energy or stuck deep in the depths of severe depression. I knew that the real me was loving, stable, and brilliant with so much to offer the world. And I knew

that, despite the best intentions of my doctors, the course of treatment I was on was not going to be enough. It was treating the symptoms (only semi-successfully) and not curing the illness. The thing is, I knew that my real self was not ill at all and I was determined to surpass the state of ‘recovered’ to the state of ‘healed’.

In 2004, with the guidance, if not the blessing, of my Psychiatrist I began tapering off the drugs. By March 2006 I was ready to take another step. I stopped taking the last medication I was on and did a ten-day Master Cleanse. This was my opportunity to prove my sanity and move beyond the labels that this illness brought with it.

Feeling like a child taking her first steps, I was shaky and unsure about how I would be able to function in the world and how I would act and react to what life had in store for me without the safety net of medication. But I was sure of one thing: no matter what anyone tried to tell me, I was certain that I was NOT crazy. I remembered how far away from the real me I felt when I was having episodes. I remembered my conviction in my darkest moments that the real me, the fabulous me, existed beyond all of this, and I wanted nothing more than to find and become only that real self. I finally felt strong enough to begin that adventure in earnest.

The next couple of months were amazing. Steadily building confidence in myself, I was working a regular job and got an apartment of my own. However, there were still moments when I would get overwhelmed. Anger, sadness, anxiety, elation, and growing confidence all left me wondering if I might back-slide into unstable places, places where I wasn’t in control, even though they were just fading shadows of their former monster shapes.

Then, in June 2006, I got initiated into Kriya Yoga and began practicing meditation.

When I was crazy, it was like my mind was drunk and restless, but still in control, precariously driving my body. Meditation helped me see the mind. Meditation helped me identify more with the Self, which allowed the mind to offer helpful, timely hints and loving reminders. It became my secret weapon, so that the day-to-day no longer had the power to throw me off balance. Now, I’m back in the driver’s seat.

Meditation helps me be in the world, and not of the world. It helps me focus, channel, and disengage the mind just enough to hear the loving guidance, the ever-expanding consciousness

Whenever, I feel myself slipping into even the most subtle negative thought patterns, if I meditate, even for a few minutes, my equilibrium is regained, and whatever was bothering me is put in perspective. Meditation continues to help me heal and remain balanced and productive. It facilitates understanding of my mind and tremendously helps me control my actions and reactions.

Recently, I met someone at a meditation retreat. She is not only a deeply committed Psychologist but an avid meditator. When I shared my old diagnosis with her, her jaw dropped, “But you aren’t ill at all. You aren’t even close.” The proof is in the pudding: meditation, not medication.

Erin Jay has a BA in English from the University of North Texas. She meditates, writes, illustrates and goes on adventures.

best activity into obsessive behavior.

Take health and wellness for example. You may wonder how such a positive and productive subject could possibly hold a negative tone, yet if our interpretation of our reality comes from a dark place, then fitness and nutrition can become addictive and unpleasant. We may become obsessed with specific diets and cause injury to ourselves due to overtraining. This extreme feeling is in direct opposition from balance. How can we manifest well-being coming from such a dark place?

On the other hand, when we feel a sense of enthusiasm toward the wellness we are creating with our habits, suddenly fruits and vegetables become welcome nourishment and exercise transforms into a way to stay fit, agile and energized. We are in no hurry and we remain calm and focused. Our routine makes perfect sense this way because we are aligned with positive direction and our bodies follow suit!

Do you see how this works? Two of the same activities coming from two completely different perceptions change the outcome. Feeling unworthy can lead to desperation. With fitness, this causes animosity, laziness and injury. With nutrition, this feeling leads to disordered eating and yo-yo dieting which may even change fat distribution. This can become dangerous. Guilt, worry and envy live here and I don’t know about you, but I would want to move…A.S.A.P.!

Now, imagine YOU ARE ALREADY PERFECT! You understand on a heart level that eating fruits and vegetables provides you with the colors, vitamins and nutrient dense foods our bodies crave. You feel a sense of pride at mealtime because

Think Your Way Fitby Dana Gore

I was over 200 pounds, out of shape and feeling rather desperate many years ago. I had no idea how to create a fit physique out of a weak and overweight body. I was desperate and miserable and it showed! After stepping back and reevaluating my life, I discovered how my thoughts influenced my behavior toward my body and that is when things finally changed. I am now lean, healthy and excited to be in a position to share some powerful information on how what we think about health and fitness determines our success!

Nowadays we live in a world full of extremes, information and speed. We get up every day and try to squeeze in as much as we can with the limited amount of time we have at our disposal, hoping to make each and every moment count. Fast food, quick weight loss plans…even speed dating have become typical of how we live our lives!

Our slow, yet noticeable advances toward extreme thoughts and

behaviors have become normal. Things change so much that it’s no wonder we sometimes tend to forget who we are and where we come from. We’re busy and have so much information coming at us from multiple directions that we have lost touch with how to be mindful in our decisions. As a result, we look to make up for lost time by rushing our goals along, leading us toward extreme thoughts and behaviors.

Extreme thinking can lead to addiction, anxiety and an attachment to the goal rather than the process. It’s the “all or nothing” perspective that can take a positive idea or behavior and enable it to work against us. Whenever extreme thinking is in play, we are being reminded that we aren’t content with ourselves at the moment and this causes us to look for a way to “fix” things. While setting a goal to record and celebrate our accomplishments can be motivating, relying on the outcome for an increase in our self-worth is what transforms even the

it’s your opportunity to fuel yourself based on mindful eating. When you work-out, you envision a life filled with ease in your everyday movements. Your attention is toward connecting to the muscles you’re building while relishing in your quick and efficient metabolism due to the lean and healthy mass you’re creating. You’re delighted that you can do push-ups alongside your 18 year old nephew because you are strong and fit. You always look young and fabulous for any event that pops up at the last minute. When I finally took this approach, I got exactly what I desired!

Coming from a place of wanting to escape from our reality, WE CREATE MORE OF IT! The desire for positive change comes to fruition only when we feel inspired (in spirit)

and enthusiastic about what we are accomplishing. By including the practice of wellness in our daily activities, we are aligned with our desire to look and feel our best. We connect with our goals for a fit and agile life and maintain them from a healthy perspective rather than suffering through punishment to be thin. Which would you prefer?

Wellness Through Passionby Bobby Donohue

Wellness may not be a focus of my business, but it certainly is a focus of my life. My wife and I take our family’s wellness seriously: buying organic food, exercising regularly, making healthier choices for meals, and using cleaning products made from natural ingredients like tea tree oil instead of chemicals.

There is one major aspect of my business, however, that I feel has a direct correlation to my own wellness, and offers a lesson for any entrepreneur. I’ve realized I am contributing to my own wellness by building a business based on my passions and my purpose in life.

My story is probably similar to many entrepreneurs out there. I started a graphic design studio about 15 years ago because I could. I had a degree in graphic design, and a desire to be an entrepreneur, so the business model seemed obvious. I focused on web site design because the web was brand new and web sites were in high demand. I saw the need and offered my services as a solution. It seemed ingenious!

However, there was one slight problem. I had very little passion for this business. Sure, it drew upon my creative talents for art and design, but there were many drawbacks. I often felt my creativity was constrained by the less creative eye of most clients. Also, I was completely ignoring several other creative passions I had: specifically singing, songwriting, writing and drawing.

Since learning about and implementing the Law of Attraction into my life, I’ve come to think of happiness and wellness as going hand in hand. I certainly could not say that I was very happy with my old design studio business. In fact, looking back I can see that just about every year since starting it there was always a side project or two going on. These were my outlets for my neglected passions.

It wasn’t until I made the conscious choice to merge my passions into my business that I started to see real wellness emerge.

Physically, I could see I was getting more fit, and making healthier food choices. I tend to “stress eat” at times, and neglecting my passions in my work was certainly a powerful cause of stress. By bringing my passions into my business, I felt my stress levels decrease, and my overall wellness and happiness increase.

Mentally, I became more engaged. With no passion for my work, my mental engagement was minimal. I would feel little inspiration on certain projects, and simply go through the motions to get things done. But by including my passions into my work, I became mentally invested in each project, which did wonders to increase my wellness.

Emotionally, I just became a happier person. It makes perfect sense to me now that by including more of my passions into my work I would be happier.

Socially, I began to see remarkable differences as well. By incorporating my passions into my brand image and message, I began to attract more people to my business and life that were interested in me, as well as interesting to me. I quickly began making a name and reputation for myself and my companies.

I wish I could say that incorporating my passions into my work was an easy task and took only a few days. Truth is, I struggled for years to get to where I am now, suffering many setbacks along the way. There were several times I thought to myself it would be easier – not to mention

more lucrative – to simply give up on my passions, work on and market my design studio business, and make a comfortable living.

In my mind, I thought I looked ridiculous every time I would announce some new version of Be A Rock Star I dreamed up, or some new endeavor I was undertaking with Planet Bonehead. Certainly it would have been easier to just forget those “pipe dreams” and work on my “real” business – you know, the one that pays the bills.

But I was never looking for comfort. I was never looking for security. I was never looking for approval. I was never looking for “just getting the bills paid.”

I want it all.

I want to love every minute of everyday. I want to love every aspect of my work. I want to feel the flow of financial abundance and prosperity as a result of my talents. I want to truly entertain people with my tv shows and music. I want to touch people’s Souls and inspire them not just to push on the leading edge, but to get on the outside with me and pull!

And that’s why I continue creating Be A Rock Star and Planet Bonehead. I don’t need to have and achieve all those things in order to experience wellness. I just have to want them and be moving toward them.

Ask a person on the street what they think “wellness” means and they will probably say it’s simply “not being sick”. They will tell you “wellness” is the absence of any illness or disease, the absence of a “health condition”. However, that’s not really true wellness. That’s just the lack of an illness affecting you at a given point in time – a little snapshot of your health at a single moment or period in your life.

Wellness is not limited to concepts of physical disease and illness. There is also spiritual wellness, social wellness, emotional wellness, and financial wellness. Therefore, we can say that wellness is a multidimensional state of wellbeing – a multidimensional weaving of various aspects of our life that manifest as a delicate balance of textures, experiences, and emotions.

When we are troubled in any area of our wellness, we generally become uneasy and are naturally prompted to search for the positive changes and solutions that will benefit and nourish our physical, emotional, and spiritual body. However, the solution can sometimes be a

bit complicated.

The first problem is that if our physical wellness is deficient, then we are in no position to work on our spiritual, social, emotional, and financial wellness. Likewise, if our spiritual, social, emotional, and financial wellness are deficient, then we are not in a good position to work on our physical wellness. Therefore, it would be fair to say that wellness is a multidimensional state of wellbeing, which is dependent on all of the varied dimensions of wellness. It is interdependent. One-dimensional wellness is rarely found flourishing and we really need to address all areas of wellness to reach our potential.

It’s also important that we understand that wellness is not a “negative state”. Wellness is not the “absence” of illness but a state of vibrancy created in our lives through daily habits that promote superb physical, spiritual, social, emotional, and financial wellbeing. In addition, you really need a “Wellness Toolbox”; tools of support that enable you on our path of wellness and a better life need to be readily available to you.

A “cool tool” for your “Wellness Toolbox” is meditation, which is essential to stress reduction. Get yourself centered and become the eye in the center of the hurricane. It’s not the stress you’re carrying that gets to you, it’s how you carry it. Meditation is a great stress carrying tool.

I practice and teach Primordial Sound Meditation as developed by Deepak Chopra. Meditation can and will change your life. As my friend Max Simon says, “How do you expect to do anything well, if you can’t do nothing well?”

Throw in some sort of activity in your toolbox. You don’t need to hit the gym everyday. Perhaps you like gardening, tennis, or dancing. Find something that gets you to move and embrace it. When you love it, you’ll do it and it will love you back.

Also be sure to include some culture in that toolbox. Try going to the theater, a concert, an opera, an art show, or a comedy club. Get out there and live a little. Remember what we said earlier? Wellness is a state of vibrancy created in our lives.

The Wellness Toolbox(continued)

Let’s crank up the vibration.

There are also several great “Swiss Army Knives” that you might wish to acquire and use. One is Yoga. Yoga is Sanskrit for union and it’s the union of mind, body, and spirit. Now that covers quite a bit.

I would be negligent if I didn’t mention the main “Swiss Army Knife” I use daily. Like many tools these days it was made in China; acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine have been practiced around the world for thousands of years. There’s a reason they have been popular for thousands of years. They

work. They are not just about treating health conditions: they are about preventing illness. They promote your “qi”. Simply put, “qi” is the energy of our body. It energizes and nourishes, us allowing us to perform our activities and live. Qi nourishes our muscles and tendons. It helps our immune system. Qi can be weak, stuck, or misdirected. Qi is our life essence and when it runs out, well… we have a problem at mission control. Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are your “Qi Vitamin” and every Wellness Toolbox needs a great Qi Vitamin that will open blockages and balance the body’s energy.

So remember, “wellness” is not

the absence of an illness; it’s a multidimensional weaving of various aspects of our life that promote wellness now and into the future.

Search for the positive changes that will nourish your physical, emotional, and spiritual body. Build your “Wellness Toolbox” and if wellness is lacking in your life, just get a few more tools and a bigger box!

Meet Doris Muscarella. Doris is a divorced mom of two girls that she’s putting through college. Like most, Doris has struggled through life; money, health, spirituality. But Doris has a huge goal. Her goal in life is to help other women; to make a difference in the world and to leave behind a legacy of connection, love and inspiration. That’s no small feat. “I just feel that we all need to help each other. Not only spiritually and financially, but I felt I needed to help other women who were in the same situation.” Doris set out to do just that. She founded an exclusive women’s networking group in Florida; The Women of the Roundtable. Their mission: to

inspire, empower and improve the lives of women entrepreneurs and professionals. Doris says, “Sure we’re out to make money, but our main focus is on building relationships and connections

with each other first…then business referrals.”An avid philanthropist herself, Doris set up The Women of the Roundtable Charitable Foundation. Each year, two charities are selected for the Foundation to fund and sponsor. But Doris isn’t stopping there. As a result of her success in marketing The Women of the Roundtable, (which has been featured on the radio, in the news and this past May, on CNN in Espanol) Doris was approached by many to manage their marketing efforts. This had led Doris down the path to create Set Me Free Marketing. Using her marketing talents, Doris can take a business to the next level by promoting and marketing it for her clients. She goes to networking events, markets online using social media, advertising boards and so on. “I named the company Set Me Free Marketing Co. because it enables me to alleviate all of the stresses that

come with marketing a company. I do all the hard work for my clients.” How does Doris balance everything she has on her plate? She says, “When you have a passion for something like I do; when you live and breathe it, time management is of course a key element, but it doesn’t feel like a job when it’s something you love to do. It’s just something I’m very passionate about.”

Doris has hit the nail on the head. She knows the key to success is to be passionate about what you are doing. Doris is a living testimony that you can do anything you want if you set your mind to it. I for one, am looking forward to seeing what Doris brings us in the future. Who loves to hear the word diet? Anyone? Well friends, if you answered “no”, you’re among the vast majority. Most people picture dieting as eating boiled, unseasoned salmon, bland veggies, and choking down raw celery sticks; hating life and the size of their pants. The truth is, unless you’re training for the Olympic Games, there is no need to torture yourself with said cuisine. What most people don’t understand is, you can eat (pretty much) what you want; it’s just a matter of when and how you eat it. I’m here to give you a few tips on how to eat food that doesn’t require you to hold your nose while you chew it, enjoy your life, and still manage to look fabulous!

First off, if you want to lose weight; eat. Sound crazy? It’s not. Here’s how it works. Basically by eating 5-6 small nutritious meals a day, your metabolism stays balanced; the more level you can keep your blood sugar, the better. If you eat 3 meals a day, chances are by the time you get to

those meals, you’re starving. This causes one to over-eat (usually things that aren’t good for you like bread, chips, and cookies; anything that you can get to quickly). These unhealthy choices cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop, resulting in a sugar crash, and thus perpetuating the vicious cycle. I’m sure you’ve heard that “grazing” isn’t good, and eating constantly certainly isn’t, but to be honest my friends, eating every few hours (aka grazing) is the best thing you can do for your body. Should you eat when you’re not hungry, just because it’s been 3 hours? No way. But listen to your body, and when you’re hungry, eat. It’s just that simple.

Let us talk about these small meals. Should they be comprised of Cheetos and Snickers? No. Try eating a couple of eggs and some multigrain toast for breakfast; give oatmeal with fresh bananas or strawberries a whirl. Not a breakfast person? Become one! Your mom was right when she told you

that breakfast is the most important meal of the day; it kick starts that metabolism and gears you up for the challenges of the day. Make sure that you eat something that fuels your body though, a cup of coffee and a toaster strudel isn’t going to cut it.

Nuts like almonds and pistachios are a great snack and also a great source of protein and good fat(yes good fat is a real thing), which will both fill you up and keep you alert and focused between meals. For lunch, I suggest a crowd favorite; carbs. Unfortunately, you’re not going to be able to eat a loaded baked potato. Instead, try some whole grain rice or whole wheat pasta with a piece of fish or chicken breast and as many veggies as you want. Whole grains are both high in fiber and in protein, once again keeping you full.

As a pre dinner snack, try some cottage cheese and some berries; strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, anything fresh and bright. A good rule of thumb about food is that the brighter in color it is, the better it is for you, so go ahead and taste the rainbow!

Many people wonder what to eat for dinner. Should I eat a lot or a little? What time should I eat? Can I eat carbs? What if I get hungry right before bed? As a general rule, you shouldn’t eat a huge meal before bed because your body isn’t given the opportunity to burn off those calories. It is literally the same as duct taping mashed potatoes around your hips. Not a pretty picture. I’m a firm believer in eating balanced meals, so be a rebel and eat carbs for dinner, but fill up on a huge (brightly colored) salad, a lean meat, and a good carb like whole grain brown rice or red potatoes. Skip the bread.

Maybe your schedule doesn’t allow

you to be home at normal dinner hours. Fear not, I have a solution for you too. As a Jack (or Jill?) of all trades, I work in a restaurant a few nights a week, and let me tell you, there is nothing tougher than watching people enjoy food and wine whilst you’re starving your guts out. Many of my colleagues grab a rogue French fry or sneak some bread and butter when nobody’s looking, but not I. Here’s how yours truly battles the bulge.

First off, I eat a big bowl of oatmeal or multi-grain cereal with fruit before work, then I pack a ½ turkey sandwich on multi-grain bread with a little bit of

light mayo. Then, when I get home, I eat a (you guessed it) brightly colored salad about an hour before bed. Is eating at 10-11 at night ideal? No. But if you have to eat something, a salad is the way to go.

Now, we all know the difference between being hungry and being bored. Sitting on the couch for hours at night, unwinding from a long day’s work can get boring by say…..10pm. Find a way to divert your mind from eating out of boredom. Play a game, take a walk, reorganize your closet, whatever floats your boat. The bottom line is, if you’re hungry, eat, and if you’re bored find something to do!

I’m so excited to begin this column as both a health nut and a natural born foodie. I can’t wait to share my love of food and nutrition with you, and to give you fun ideas and tips for entertaining along the way! A Few Simple Steps TowardsPeace of Mindby Hank Eder

Wherever I go these days there’s someone talking about how bad everything has become. High gas prices, high food prices, unemployment, stock market volatility – small wonder so many people seem to walk around in a state of low-grade emergency. News outlets, from traditional print to cyberspace, are spewing a 24/7 stream of paralyzing limitations. The prevailing message seems to be, “We live in a universe of lack. There’s not enough to go around.” Depressing, isn’t it? But (watch my lips on this one) it’s all an illusion done with proverbial smoke and mirrors. We live in a Universe of limitless abundance. With a few simple steps, you can learn to see past the haze.

First, a Blinding Flash of the Obvious (BFO): Remember the old joke, where the woman goes to the doctor and says, “Doc, it hurts when I do this?” The doctor replies, “Don’t do that!” So if all the noise distracts or depresses you, just change the channel or hit the “off” button. What reason is there to focus on something that reinforces lack or a feeling of helplessness? No reason at all! So stop doing it. Start right now. You’re already a step ahead – after all, you’re reading Nothing But Good News Magazine. Filling yourself with uplifting and inspiring thoughts and imagery goes a long way toward creating the world you want to see. However, if you insist on keeping up with current events, find a neutral source that just reports the facts without all the drama. There are

still some of those left on public TV and radio. Shut the rest off and don’t look back.

Next comes another BFO. I first heard this from Esther Hicks in her book, “Ask And It Is Given.” It’s a profoundly simple statement, and it can be used as a mantra. Are you ready for this? Here it is: “Think about what you want, not what you don’t want.” It’s almost too good to be true. I can hear some of you saying, “Why didn’t I think of that?” At least, that’s what came to my mind when I first read the statement. Want to be more confident? More successful? Think of yourself that way. Don’t think about all the ways you can fail. That will only draw these things right to you. Think about what you want. See what you want to be. Even if you can’t take the total leap of faith and say, “I AM prosperity NOW,” you can acknowledge your pride about where you are on your journey. Try saying, “I AM building prosperity NOW.” Or for health and wellness, try, “I AM building health and wellness NOW.” In this way, you allow yourself to acknowledge that yes, you still have a way to go, but you are actively “walking the walk.” Then pat yourself on the back and find a way to celebrate each successful step along the way.

A third step in your quest to take control of your sense of well-being is – are you ready? –another BFO. It goes like this: Surround yourself with people who support you and make you feel good about yourself. Let the others fall away, even if they have been lifelong friends or acquaintances. We all know people we can only describe as “energy

vampires.” If we allow them to, they will suck us dry of all our enthusiasm. Put the brakes on such relationships. Even with family we can draw acceptable boundaries, for example, “If you want me to continue visiting you, you must stop walking all over my hopes and dreams.” Be sure you show them you mean business. Spend time with people who inspire you, people who nurture your journey toward self-discovery and wellness. See them in your life and you will draw them to you.

Do these BFOs relate to the area of health? They sure do. If you want vibrant health and energy, you don’t get it by worrying about illness. See yourself filled with energy, health, and limitless vitality. Does that mean never see a doctor or health professional? Of course not. But remember this: You are the key to your own health and well-being. Health professionals can guide you, but they are no replacement for your own unlimited power.

Here’s a quick prescription for well-being from Dr. Universe: Live vibrantly, embrace love in its many forms, and be sure to laugh as often as possible (frequently at yourself). Lessen the “noise,” fill your thoughts with your highest dreams, and spend time with people who inspire you, You’re already on your way.

Belly fat is not a laughing matter. Fat and jolly is a myth. Secretly most people whose midlines are soft and puffy are not exactly happy about it and secretly wish for abs of steel.

The sad truth is that no matter how many sit-ups, crunches, bicycles or leg lifts you do, your belly fat will not go away until you change some fundamental things – the foods you put in your mouth , the thoughts you think in your head and the emotions you feel in your heart!.

One of my relatives once told me she had six pack abs...except no one could see them because they were covered by fat! She’d been working out for months and her abs were indeed impressively strong. The only problem was, her dietary choices were hiding what could have been a prize winning midline.

Does that mean that ab exercises are of no use? Absolutely not. Exercise is critical to reducing your girth. Unfortunately it’s not enough.Excess belly fat generally results from a metabolic condition called insulin resistance.

The good news is that insulin resistance responds very well to a COMBINATION of diet, exercise and stress reduction in as little as a week in some cases, and certainly within a month in most cases …if you’re diligent and follow the “rules”.

If you incorporate a cleanse within that month, you just may speed up the process. …dramatically! I’ve had participants in my seven day green cleanse drop as much as 13 pounds and most experience a noticeable difference in the size of their waistline.

Perhaps you’ve heard the term insulin resistance before; maybe not.

Insulin is a hormone that’s produced by your pancreas in response to an increase in the sugar level in your blood. After you eat a meal, whether it’s a doughnut, a salad or a piece of steak, your blood sugar level increases. Clearly, the doughnut will cause the most dramatic rise in blood sugar. Insulin comes to the rescue, attaches itself to your cell membranes and escorts the sugar into your cells – when everything is working normally, that is. The result is your blood sugar quickly returns to normal, the level it was before you ate.

Once the sugar enters your cells, the magic happens and that sugar gets converted into energy so you can exercise, think, work and play. The magic is performed by your mitochondria which reside in each and every cell in your body.

Unfortunately, the picture I painted just doesn’t happen for many people. Many foods and chemicals damage the insulin receptors on your cells and consistent intake of high sugar and processed carbohydrate foods results in a consistently high level of insulin in your bloodstream, and the insulin receptors get tired out and lose their sensitivity.

When your insulin receptors become damaged or overwhelmed, that’s when the sequence of events that expands your midline begins to happen.

Insulin has a job description. Its role is to reduce your blood sugar to a normal healthy level. When it can’t do its job properly, by escorting the sugar into your cells so you can benefit from it, it turns to a different mechanism for reducing your blood sugar. It converts the sugar to fat and stores it. The particular type of fat it converts the sugar into is called white adipose tissue, which is an easy to retrieve form of fat. Many of the receptors for this type of fat are around your belly. The irony is you eat food, you feel tired and you gain weight. The food can no longer be converted efficiently to fuel for your enjoyment. Bottom line is you feel tired and you gain weight!

Facts And Fiction About Belly Fat: (continued)

Early in the process, many people don’t feel tired, but their organs and glands slow down as a result of insufficient fuel. This can result in symptoms like dry skin, constipation, mild depression, decreased sex drive, skin breakouts and other common complaints resulting from sluggish organ and gland function.

If you eat just one doughnut on an irregular basis and your main diet is predominantly whole fresh foods, like salads, vegetables and fruits you are unlikely to develop insulin resistance. But when you eat processed, high carbohydrate foods regularly, you set yourself up for that roll around the middle you can’t exercise away AND a lot more serious complications, like increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and diabetes.

Stress has similar effects because as a result of fear, worry and anxiety, your body secretes the hormone cortisol. Cortisol prepares you for fight or flight. It mobilizes your fat stores and increases your blood sugar so you have the energy to get out of danger. Unfortunately most of our modern day stresses don’t require us to fight or run away from a hungry tiger, so the extra sugar in the blood triggers insulin and over time, you develop insulin resistance and all the fat that was mobilized from various places in your body gets stored back around your midline.

That may be a good idea for protecting your organs from hungry tigers but it does nothing to protect us from the angry boss, rush hour traffic or the demands of parenthood.

So what should you do to get rid of your persistent belly fat?

I take my patients and students through a 5 step process.

1) Decrease your body’s need for insulin by avoiding sugar and processed carbohydrate foods. This includes breads, pasta and crackers, even the whole grain kind.

2) Stop damaging your insulin receptors and teach your cells to become sensitive to insulin once again by avoiding processed fats, chemical additives and artificial flavorings and colorings and by using herbs, specific nutrients, like chromium and magnesium and foods like blueberries and cinnamon.

3) Reduce the antigenic load on your body and decrease inflammation. Certain foods, like gluten and dairy products, can create an immune attack on your insulin receptors and your insulin producing cells.

4) Improve your body’s ability to make growth hormone, which burns fat and increases muscle, vigorous exercise and proper timing of your meals. Avoid eating within three hours of bedtime so you can have a growth hormone surge during the night. If you eat too close to bedtime, you get an influx of insulin, and growth hormone stays away from insulin. It’s also best to space your meals during the day by 4-6 hours to maximize growth hormone and minimize insulin.

5) Manage your stress and avoid cortisol surges. Techniques like Heart Math, The Sedona Method, Yoga, Meditation and Emotional Freedom Technique are very helpful.

By following this 5 step plan for 30 days, you’ll notice a surge of energy, a

flattening of your belly and increased mental clarity.

The entire program is laid out in a webinar series available at http://www.drritamarie.com/tameyourmidline

and in a soon to be launched 30 day coaching program.

I ask you to honestly look at your current state of health and ask: “What choices can I make on a moment to moment basis that will bring me closer to the health and joy I desire ...and deserve?”

In 1975, the doctors at Kaiser Hospital in Hollywood, California gave me two years to live. Although I was only 25 years old, the doctor said my body was equal to a 75-year-old man. I had such a serious heart condition that the doctors advised me to do no exercise and no work of any kind; then, maybe, my life could be extended for two years.

As a teenager, in the 1960s, I began taking dangerous drugs. I used drugs regularly for seven years. I found my best friend overdosed and dead from taking the same drugs we had taken the night before. He died and I lived.

I knew my life had to change, and I knew I was going to be the next to die. In desperation, I called out to God to help me, and deliver me from my addictions.

Within a short time I was able to stop taking drugs altogether. However, I still had serious heart problems.

I told many people about my heart problems, and asked nearly everyone I met to pray for me. I was 25 years old, had two young children, and didn’t want to die.

At night, in my dreams, I would see myself dead. I would see myself in my casket at my funeral, with my friends and family present and crying over my dead body. Soon that image occupied my thought life, even while I was awake.

As the symptoms continued, I became obsessed with the thought that I was soon going to die. I’d visualized my death. I visualized my mother and father, my wife and children, crying at my funeral. I was living a nightmare.

One day somebody told me about the importance of visualizing, not what you have, but what you desire. My life was about to change.

I soon began to understand that visualization is a “key” that will help us create the future we desire and deserve.

Visualization has to do with “seeing” or “visualizing” things and events in our life the way we want them to be, not the way they appear right now. My goal was to change my visualization and start seeing myself alive instead of dead.

Visualization is an act of the will that enables you, through focus and concentration, to create a mental image of yourself that would exemplify everything you want to be.

It also enables you to see yourself doing what you want to do and possessing the things you want to have and enjoy.

Visualization has to do with using your thoughts, imagination and faith to change your current conditions.

Visualization is not to be confused with daydreaming!

Visualization is the ability of the mind to see things in pictures. (I pictured myself dead.) The goal of positive visualization is to hold a desired thought in your mind long enough to produce a vivid picture of what you desire. I needed to picture myself living a long, healthy and happy life, which was contrary to what I was experiencing.

You are then to view your desired picture as your reality (real in your

life) and before long, events will transpire that create what you visualized in reality. This process has worked for you (or against you) your entire life. Now, we want to start using this process “On Purpose” to become who we desire to be, and obtain what we desire to have in life. When you know clearly what you desire, (for me it was to live and not die) you must then visualize yourself in possession of that desire. You must maintain this mental discipline until the thing you desire is fully manifested.

You must internally take possession of what you desire through maintained visualization, even to the point of feeling the happiness and gratitude you will experience once your desire is fully manifested.

Every day was a struggle to visualize myself living. My thoughts continually gravitated back to the picture of myself in the casket. Over time my visualization of life became more vivid. Even though my circumstances shouted DEATH, the picture of my mind was shouting LIFE.

When done properly, you will live in your dream house, travel to your dream destination, drive your desired car, and live a healthy, abundant life in your thought life until it takes form around you.

What Should You Visualize?

Visualize the skill level, the characteristics, and the qualities you want to express.

Visualize the success, wealth, excellent health, and accomplishments you want to

experience. See yourself with the very best things life has to offer.

Soon you will act like and actually possess what you visualize and desire. You must possess what you desire in your mind before you can ever possess it in your experience.

Remember, the Empire State Building had to be visualized before it could be materialized. It existed in someone’s mind before it ever existed in New York City. In like manner, my health and healing had to exist in my mind before it ever existed in my body.

Many people ask themselves: “Why is my life not what I want it to be?” Today millions of Americans are trapped in the claws of depression, poverty, lack, and sickness. Many Americans have given up all hope on what is commonly known as the “American Dream” and choose to live a life of day by day work, to get in return a meager check which barely makes ends meet. That life of lack and poverty can change. People (like yourself) have the power to change all circumstances in life by simply choosing who they associate themselves with.

One single factor which affects wellness is something that many people do not understand; the power of association. From celebrities and politicians to ordinary people, who we associate ourselves with is who we become. This does not only go for association at a social level but also the media we choose to intake on a daily basis.

To give you a clear illustration of association, imagine you are a flower and someone gives the flower (you) water which has been modified with red food coloring. The red food coloring will represent the media you see and listen to, which is passed on by the influence of those you associate yourself with. The person pouring the water can represent an association or even yourself. When the red water is applied to the soil, eventually the physical appearance of the flower will change. The pedals of the flower will become the color of the water. The physical appearance will echo that of the water taken in by the flower. The same applies for us as we live our lives. The root to all problems and successes are the associations we choose.

Around the world we see businesses, governments, politicians, and citizens collapsing. Why? Because of the people they choose to associate themselves with. The type of information people see, hear, then choose to implement, have a direct impact on their success and failure.

Today in America many teens are faced with challenges; going to college, graduating, and making it through college life. Yes, there are many economic factors, but it all starts based on what and who people choose to associate themselves with. Teenagers and college students many times choose friends that will provide absolutely no benefit to their growth and maturity in the real world. All over America teens are infatuated with television shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, and other various “reality” junk that promote nothing but lifestyles of drama that will guarantee failure. What many people fail to realize is that the lifestyles depicted on these shows will rub off on them the more they watch them. People, especially teens, begin to associate what they see on television as normal and thus try to replicate it.

The greatest example of negative media is the news. Most of the time, the news covers stories about death and tragedy, focusing very little attention on the good things communities have created. One of the most common subjects on the news is economic crisis. The news usually reports on how unemployment continues to rise and the stock market continues to plummet. When a person hears this, they develop a sense of fear and anxiety that causes their mind to think that life will never be anything but a constant struggle. When the mind begins to develop the belief that poverty and crisis are imminent, the body will develop actions that will restrict a happy and prosperous life.

To make matters worse, many people will watch the worrisome things in the media, then go out and talk to friends and acquaintances about it, thus perpetuating the cycle of negativity, anxiety and doubt. After all of these negative thoughts are programmed into people’s heads, it’s not surprising that most people only think of the world and their situations as downright hopeless. Why? Because of their associations and what they have chosen to absorb in their lives.

If someone wants to be a business person, chances are you won’t find them hanging around a bunch of people collecting welfare. He or she will go and seek mentorship and people who are involved in the activity they want to pursue. The same goes for all people. If you want wellness in all areas of your life, you must associate yourself with people, media, and positive influences that will direct you on that path.

If you feel your dreams of wealth, success, good health, and happiness are long gone, think again. Your dreams are manifesting themselves before your very eyes, but you must take the blinders off and allow the illumination of your desires to wash over you, influencing you to take action. This all begins with changing the water you allow other people to pour into your soil. Once you find people to enrich your soil with rich and clean water, you will begin to reap a harvest of wellness and prosperity.

This Thing Called Successimo by Erin Crowe

Today I had the pleasure of speaking to Dr. Stan Harris aka Dr. Breakthrough. Dr. Harris is not only a renowned speaker and author, but has his Doctorate in Divinity and a PHD in Martial Arts. In addition, Dr. Breakthrough is the spokesperson for an exciting new program called Successimo, a wonderful online tool that enables users to learn valuable, life enriching lessons from successful mentors, speakers and life coaches. The best part is, Successimo is absolutely free!

When I asked Dr. Harris to explain the program to me, he started with the question; “In these times of economic difficulties, what would you invest in?” When I had no answer, he laughed and said, “Invest in yourself.” Successimo is basically based entirely on word of mouth, and is a concept based on investing in one’s own education and general betterment as a person. A wise man once said: “Put your wallet into your mind and your mind will fill your wallet”. What’s great about Successimo is that it’s free, no wallet required.

Here’s how it works. Basically Successimo.com is filled with free audio and video from renowned speakers, authors, and coaches, like Les Brown, Dr. Stan Harris, and soon to be Kandee G. herself. These many members are all experts in their field of over 100 categories. All you have to do is listen to the “lessons” you wish to learn about and answer a few simple questions afterward. It’s just that simple. By answering said questions, you are able to earn points, redeemable for prizes, merchandise and even cold, hard cash.

Dr. Harris actually walked me through the whole process while we were

speaking. Basically, you can earn points a number of ways. The first is probably the most beneficial; listen to the lessons, learn something, get motivated, get inspired and go out and tackle the day. Another way to earn points is to refer your friends. Everyone you refer earns you points and then everyone they refer, earns them points and you points. Not only do you get points for referring people, the more lessons they complete, the more points you BOTH get! So the more people you sign up, the more points you can earn just for referring them.

I know you’ve heard of programs like this, and most people are wary of them, always wondering what the catch is, but Dr. Harris assured me that this is all absolutely free. The intention of the Successimo program is to help people help themselves, help them help each other, and to provide free, easily accessible access to a myriad of speakers and mentors, who are there when you need them.

Let’s talk about these prizes you can win. If you go to the “SHOPPING MALL” tab on Successimo.com, there are a number of vendors involved with the program. When he asked me what I might want, I told him I’d really enjoy a new pair of heels (yes I know, I’m a walking cliché) and he helped me navigate my way to the shoe tab. All I had to do was put in the price of the shoe I wanted in the box at the bottom of the screen and click “calculate points”. The program does the math for you and tells you how many points you need to acquire your new pair of shoes FOR FREE.

Say you’re more interested in perhaps something more meaningful than a pair of high heels. If you go to the “SHOPPING MALL” tab, then click on

the link that says “The Success Coach Store”, you will find a number of books and learning materials from some of the world’s most renowned speakers. Dr. Harris’ book “Your Break Through Is Guaranteed” is only $25, so do your lessons and you can have some great material in your hands just for taking 5 minutes out of your day to do something good for yourself. You can cash out your points each month for cash or you can save them up to buy a big ticket item like a kindle, a golf club, or even a laptop.

Successimo even has chat capabilities. You are able to talk to other members via the small box on the bottom right corner of the screen labeled “Who’s Online”. You can even share a chat screen with members that are new to the program, making it easy to show them all of the cool features and great content.

All you have to do to stay an active member with the Successimo program is to complete one activity a month. Your points don’t ever disappear or expire. So many people claim to be “too busy” for anything extra in their lives, but with Successimo, you get quick and easy rewards, all while educating yourself and becoming a more well rounded person. Dr Harris says, “College will help you make a living, but self education will help make you a fortune.”

Ready to get started? Head to Successimo.com and click “sign up now” on the right hand side of the top toolbar. When the screen comes up, type in the “sponsor email”[email protected]. Breakthrough referred me so by signing up under me, Dr. Breakthrough, myself, and of course you benefit! Go team!

The Power Of Gratitudeby Emma Beck

As humans, it’s easy to steer off course. We’re quick to dwell on the murky, gray clouds. The absent silver lining. The gloom present in everyday life. It’s under these circumstances that our positive psychological wellbeing is kept from flourishing.

But as humans, we also posses an essential gift… the power to color our clouds blue and etch out the silver border. We have the power, the free- will to push away the storm and to focus on the rays of sunlight ahead.

And this is where the gratitude journal comes in.

I began my gratitude journal last January. The assignment had been listed as an option for my Psychology of Wellbeing course, a part of a self- change extra credit assignment. A mandated routine of gratitude… couldn’t be too awful for a 19- year- old whose life had recently veered off path. It’s been seven months since I began;

I look back at my decision with a slight shake of my head, a peak of a knowing smile curling the corners of my lips. I really had no way of knowing the tremendous affect my journal would have on shaping my perspective, helping me handle challenges and steering me to discover a new way of living that maximized my capability to reach my potential.

I assume there’s many a way to write a gratitude journal. I had a psychology professor who deemed five statements of gratitude as the key number. I disagree, believing five should be a minimum. Never ending is your limit. I find it best to write each night prior to falling asleep. When I first began the exercise, I wrote page long entries, providing a thorough account of my day in order for me to highlight the moments for which I was grateful. I approach the task differently, seven months later. Nowadays, I go through my day automatically noticing the good. And should a negative occur, I

naturally snap to a positive, a thought of gratitude out of what, to the ordinary eye, could seem upsetting.

My past semester had been a strange one; I was recently single, after a year and a half of a serious, long distance relationship. The breakup, as breakups typically do, shook me; only so much ice cream was going to help my cause. I turned to my gratitude journal, a task that forced me to focus on the good of my recent decision and the light ahead within the months post. After a few weeks of jotting down my feelings and pinpointing my observations of gratefulness, a realization dwelled on me: had I stayed in the relationship, a relationship which I knew wasn’t where I saw future me going, I would have stayed on the simple road- the road of comfort. A dead end as comfort rarely brings about change. And no change equates no potential for the greatness I could achieve.

Writing a gratitude journal challenges you to alter your assessment of your days (and as you progress, your life), guiding you to seek out the positive, disregarding or reformatting your perception of the negative. A gratitude journal arms you with the power to paint your world in colors. The exercise is anything but the ordinary… it’s life changing. Your wellbeing will thank you in the end.

Emma Beck is a junior at the American University in Washington DC. She is majoring in Journalism with minors in International Studies and Psychology. Emma aspires to write professionally in the future. When not playing tourist in the city she goes to school, she’s working on her life goal to travel the world.

We have all experienced that slight feeling of ap-prehension as we step onto the scale to check our weight. We get that

uneasy feeling in the pit of our stomachs before the scale reveals to us that num-ber we are dreading to see. Then there are those feelings of failure that begin to creep in, because we have been trying so hard to stick to a diet that makes us feel tired and hungry. Even though we don’t see the number on the scale we want, we still cling to hopes of losing weight, only to become more frustrated. For many of us, this may be our sec-ond or third diet where we have lost 10 lbs, 20 lbs or more, only to gain back the weight we lost in a rather short period of time. Or we have lost some weight and can’t seem to lose the remaining pounds in those areas that it just seems to stick to our bodies, in places where the fat just won’t come off.

You may be a woman in your 30’s, 40’s or 50+ who has lost and gained that same ten pounds three or four times. Except each time you lose it and gain it back, you

and the fat is now in places on your body it wasn’t in before. For Men in their 40’s and over, excess fat is often stored in the belly area and no amount of dieting will help lose that fat. We all have those stub-born areas of our body’s where the fat just will not come off.

Diets Don’t Work – i t’s not Your Fault

The truth is there is a real problem with diets and it’s not your fault when your diet fails. The reason we are unable to lose weight or why we regain the weight we have already lost over and over again in a short period of time, is physiological. Diets and exercise will not release the problem area, fat reserves or reshape your body. The answer lies within a single gland in our bodies, the Hypothalamus. It is like the brain of the brain, it controls weight, hunger and metabolism. When the Hypo-thalamus is off-balance or turned-off, the fat you eat becomes stored fat in areas of

body has no access to this stored fat; it can’t be used by the body for daily energy.

-lem of an off-balance Hypothalamus, diet-ing only addresses the symptoms. unDerstan Ding the tY pes o F Fat

When trying to lose weight and keep it off, it is important to understand the differ-ent types of fat. When you diet, you loose Fat, Fluid and Muscle. With some diets you can lose both fat and too much muscle. Di-eting can starve the body; it will pull from any part of it to survive. One of the easi-est sources of energy for the body is our muscles. It is not easy to replace muscle once it is lost. The amount of muscle mass you have affects your metabolism. The more muscle mass you have, the higher you metabolism. Losing muscle is very

unhealthy to the body and can weaken your body’s structural system. The Hypothalamus controls how the fat you consume is used by the body. If the Hypothalamus is off-balance, the body is not using the fat you consume properly and you then develop too much abnormal fat (stored fat). This can lead to weight gain and obesity. What turns oFF the hYpothalamus

There are many factors that can af-fect the Hypothalamus, to cause it to be off-balance. Some of these factors are stress, pregnancy, menopause, eating cer-tain foods, food additives like MSG, high fructose sugar, and hydrogenated oils,

Hypothalamus is to reset your body’s me-tabolism. Then you can truly address the real physiological causes of weight gain, obesity and inability to lose weight. Fixing the hYpothalamus

When the Hypothalamus is functioning properly, the fat you eat is kept in the body as normal fat “good fat” and burned off as energy. The only way to lose abnormal fat (stored fat) is to reset your metabolism so your body will function effectively. You will then lose abnormal fat, reshape your body, are less hungry, and have more every-day

energy. Your body will then burn stored fat as energy and reset your body’s metabo-lism to a more well-balanced healthy sys-tem. Consider your body to be like a ther-mostat, where you set your weight similar to setting the temperature in a room. Let’s say your thermostat is set at 75 degrees and it is cold outside. The temperature in the room will drop to 65 degrees because of the cold. When the room gets cold the thermostat “resets” and will warm the room back up to 75 degrees because that is where the thermostat is set originally. So when you diet, initially it is like being cold, you will lose weight, but because your Hy-pothalamus has not been reset, eventually you will regain the weight you lost or even more. To lose weight and make it a per-manent weight loss, you must reset your Hypothalamus.

You Can aChieve permanent Weighloss

Achieving permanent weightloss is not as impossible as you may have once be-lieved. First you need to reset your Hypo-thalamus, which requires the use of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) and then couple it with a diet protocol for a period of no less than 3 weeks. HCG is a natural water based hormone that helps the Hy-pothalamus gland control your metabolic rate. Once you reset your Hypothalamus, you will then be able to eat moderately without feeling the need to over eat. Your Hypothalamus will no longer be off-bal-ance and your body will function normally, burning normal fat as energy. And as a re-sult, you will then be able to maintain your new healthier weight.

The Truth is

When YourDiet Fails

ITS NOT YOUR FAULT

There are Three differen T Types of body f a T:

Good Fat Normal Fat a bNormal Fat

goo D Fat supports the body’s structure, organs and skin. normal Fat is “good fat” which is needed by the body to be burned and released into the body’s system to provide daily energy.

abnormal Fat is stored fat and found on the body in areas of the body where fat should not be stored. This fat is not easily ac-cessed by the body to be burned or released into the body for use as energy like “normal fat.”

The answer lies within a single gland in our bodies, the hypothalamus. It is like the brain of the brain, it controls weight, hunger and metabolism. When the hypothalamus is off balance or turned off, the fat you eat becomes stored fat in areas of the body you find hard to lose. Also, your body has no access to this stored fat; it can’t be used by the body for daily energy. Dieting does not address or fix the problem of an off balance hypothalamus, dieting only addresses the symptoms.

UNDERSTANDING THE TYPES OF FATWhen trying to lose weight and keep it off, it is important to understand the different types of fat. When you diet, you loose fat, fluid and muscle. With some diets, you can lose both fat and too much muscle. Dieting can starve the body; it will pull from any part of it to survive. One of the easiest sources of energy for the body is our muscles. WHAT TURNS OFF THE HYPOTHALAMUSThere are many factors that can affect the hypothalamus, to cause it to be off balance. Some of these factors are stress, pregnancy, menopause, eating certain foods, food additives like monosodium glutamate, high fructose sugar, and hydrogenated oils, to name a few.

The only way to fix the hypothalamus is to reset your body’s metabolism. Then you can truly address the real physiological causes of weight gain, obesity and inability to lose weight.

FIXING THE HYPOTHALAMUSWhen the hypothalamus is functioning properly, the fat you eat is kept in the body as normal fat – ‘good fat’ – and burned off as energy. The only way to lose abnormal fat (stored fat) is to reset your metabolism so your body will function effectively. You will then lose abnormal fat, reshape your body, are less hungry, and have more everyday energy. Your body will then burn stored fat as energy and reset your body’s metabolism to a more well balanced healthy system. So when you diet, initially it is like being cold, you will lose weight, but because your hypothalamus has not been reset, eventually you will regain the weight you lost or even more. To make weight loss permanent, you must reset your hypothalamus.

YOU CAN ACHIEVE PERMANENT WEIGHT LOSSAchieving permanent weight loss is not as impossible as you may have

There is Always Love: An expose on a true humanitarian- Polly Wilkieby Erin Crowe

Polly Wilkie is an amazing woman. She has been in the banking business for 55 years, starting when she was just 18 years of age, and is now the Vice President of Community Relations and Business Development at the Community Bank of Broward County. More importantly however, Polly is a humanitarian and a true philanthropist. She is the president of a non-profit organization called the Prestige Club, which she founded 15 years ago based on her passion for helping those in need, especially children. She started a business group with 125 members, who meet for breakfast once a month and are able to, through hard work and dedication, raise 400,000 a year for children and people in need. She really emphasizes how important it is to have quality people on her team. She says “quality over quantity is what were

looking for, not someone who wants charity work to look good on

their resume”.

Located in Cooper City, Florida, Prestige Club resides in an office that was graciously donated to them. What makes Prestige Club different from other organizations is the fact that they don’t have a payroll, all of the members are volunteers; therefore don’t have to worry about administrative costs. Polly wants to make sure that “all of the money goes to the kids”.

When I asked Polly what kind of things Prestige Club did for the community, I was pleasantly surprised at how much she had to say. Every holiday season, just before Thanksgiving, PC throws a picnic, called the Bart Reed Love Fest in honor of Polly’s son who was killed. It takes place in CB Smith Park in Pembroke Pines and reaches

out to children and families in need. In the beginning, the turnout was around 500 people. Now it is anticipated every year by over 2,000 people; members of the Boys and Girls club, Women in Distress, Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center, Jo DiMaggio’s Kids, and many more. It is a joyous event, fueled by the efforts of the PC members and volunteers, as well as the help of 27 different agencies and 3 food pantries. The idea is for people in need to have a fun day, free from the stresses of their everyday challenges. Faces are painted, songs are sung, games are played, and every family leaves with a $25 gift card to Publix so that they are able to buy a Thanksgiving meal to share with the ones they love.

One of the Prestige Club’s most recent projects involves helping 21 homeless women and 56 children in need of housing. PC found a somewhat run-down community and convinced the owner to rent out a number of homes in need of some T.L.C., for only $900 a month. 3 families are able to live in one home, making the rent very affordable for each. Polly says that the problem was not that these women did not have jobs; they just didn’t have enough money for rent. Now that this project is in effect, these women are able to work, take care of their children and have a place to call home. “They’ve really become a tight knit community” Polly says, “they all help each other out by watching each other’s kids, carpooling to work, and working as a team.” This project has not only revitalized the lives of these grateful families, but has brought a new sense of pride to the community as a whole. With the help of Prestige Club and Broward County (who provides free

paint in 5 colors to those in need), this community has been able to re-paint, fix up, and revitalize their homes and lives.

Another exciting event hosted by the joint efforts of the Prestige Club and the Starlight Children’s Foundation is what Polly has named “Christmas in July” It’s an event where the two organizations take children who are very ill with cancer and other ailments on a field trip of sorts to have a fun day at Pompano Ice Rink. Complete with ice skating, sled rides and a cameo by Santa himself, Christmas in July is an event looked forward to by all.

Polly and the Prestige Club are very much looking forward to an upcoming gala fundraising event being held at the Signature Grand Hotel in Davie Florida, on January 28th,  2012.  This  Renaissance  Ball event is sure to be one of the most memorable of its kind! Complete with the famous stilt dancers, mimes, jugglers, fortune teller and character artists; this will surely be a “knight” to remember.

The Renaissance Ball will begin

with cocktails at 7:00 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing at 8:00 p.m. For dinner, a dual entrée will be served, as well as one free drink, an Irish coffee and an open bar of wine; a feast fit for a king!

During the event, a live and silent auction will be held and some very special people will be knighted by  the  Queen  for  their  selfless service to the community. Those being honored include Dr. George Hanbury II, Ronnie Bergeron, Ali Waldman and Doris Muscarella.

The Prestige Club hopes to earn $350,000 for the homeless and for

children in need and is looking for sponsors and contributors to the event. If you would like more information on this event or are interesting in donating, please visit: http://www.prestigeclub.org/upcoming-events/.

When I asked Polly what drives her to do these things for others, she did not hesitate to tell me that, she herself had a troubled childhood. She had a father who was plagued by addiction and her life was tumultuous to say

the least. She says that although she could have herself turned to drugs and a life of gloom and sadness, she chose to go the other way. She beams as she tells me that even at her age, she is still going strong; that her passion to help others and to be of service is what keeps her young. Excitedly, she told me that for her 75th birthday party, she and the members of the Prestige Club are going to Costa Rica to build a library for the children and people of the village. “I just love helping kids, that’s what I was born to do. God put me through all these things I went through when I was young so that I would understand and know how to help other people.”

Polly has received countless awards, including Governor’s Award and Humanitarian of the Year, but she says those things (though nice) don’t matter to her. She does things from the goodness of her heart and for the love of the children.

When I asked her what she strives to bring to the world through her work, she sounds pensively wistful as she replies: “Love. Compassion. Of every generation and nationality. There is always love.”

Beyond The 10th Element:The Secret Law That Governs Successby Don Boyer visit Don at www.donboyer.org

As I sat down to write this article, my mind raced back to 28 years ago when I was 19 years old and I bought my first copy of Think and Grow Rich at a yard sale. I took it home and began to read what was to me, the most amazing information I had ever laid my eyes on. What a fantastic journey it has been!

Since you are reading this, chances are that you are a member of the 3% of those persons who are students of personal growth, achievement and success. For this ambition I applaud and congratulate you. You are one of the few who are taking responsibility for your results in life and desire to create all the great things life has to offer.

I can also predict with almost 100% accuracy that you have attended every type of success seminar, and read/ listened to every piece of material on the market. You are well versed in all of the success strategies on the market, and are practicing most of those skills in your life. Yet, with all of this accumulated knowledge and hard work you put into practice, you still fall short from having it all.

There is no question in my mind that all of the inspirational and motivational information you have learned has made an immense impact and improvement in every area of your life, however it has failed to take you to the point of

massive success. There is nothing wrong with the success principles or system, and there is nothing wrong with you or the way you implement them into your life. These success principles you are practicing are great, but they do have a limit of how far they will take you.

There are 10 elements of success that all of the experts teach, designed to create a certain amount or level of success in one’s life. The problem begins when we don’t understand what their boundaries are or we expect them to take us beyond their capabilities. The first thing we must do is look at the 10 elements of success.

10 Elements of Success

1. Burning Desire 2. Persistence3. Self discipline4. Time management5. Communication skills6. Selling skills7. Affirmations8. Goal setting9. Taking action10. Mentorship

Using these 10 elements of success, one can reach extraordinary levels of success and achievement. Now I want to take you beyond the 10 elements of success into the law that governs all success, The Law of Spiritual Wellness. This law has been in existence since the beginning of time. Throughout the centuries, there have been pockets of people who have known about this law and chose to reveal it to just a select few. It began to get massive exposure to the general public at the turn of the century. There

were men like Charles F. Haanel who wrote the book The Master Key, which remains to this day, one of the most comprehensive books ever written on spiritual wellness. During that time, Wallace D. Wattles also wrote his classic book The Science of Getting Rich. Although these books took major strides with regard to bringing the law of wellness to the attention of the general public, they met with much resistance from those who were steeped in religious tradition.

The Law of Wellness is the fundamental law that governs life. It works through the power of our thoughts, intents, desires, and emotions. The easiest way to understand it is to understand that we attract everything into our life; good or bad, by the thoughts we think. If you told the average person, living from paycheck to paycheck, finding life a constant struggle, that if he would just sit down, take a deep breath, relax and start seeing himself as a success, in time he would become that, he would say, “That is a bunch of bull, you can’t change being broke by the power of your thoughts!”.

However, if you told the same man to sit down, relax, take a deep breath, and just think about getting a terminal disease, see himself going broke and living on skid row, he would say, “Hell no, I am going to think like that, if I think about those things they could really happen to me!” Isn’t that strange? People believe that if they think about negative things, they will happen, but somehow can’t comprehend that the law works the same way when they think about positive things. Start tapping into the Law of Wellness today by the power of your thoughts.
