For me it is nice to be feeling better and back on deck. We are in such a busy time of the year. Students reports are being completed by teachers and we are commencing planning for 2016 – yes, it’s that close! It is almost time to begin the countdown to Santa. From the Principal…

Dear Parents, Now is a good time to take some time with your families and surround them with love, support and stability. They would have heard and possibly seen the terrible things that happened to innocent people in France and I think we are all feeling a bit vulnerable. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have experienced loss and those that are suffering. We are very fortunate to live where we do but let’s never take that for granted. For me it is nice to be feeling better and back on deck. We are in such a busy time of the year. Students reports are being completed by teachers and we are commencing planning for 2016 – yes, it’s that close! It is almost time to begin the countdown to Santa. Next week years 3 – 6 will be going on their school camps and infants will be visiting the zoo. I am sure they will all have exciting stories to tell when they get back from their excursions.

Invitation to Parents to attend the Parent Helpers Morning Tea!

The staff of Merewether Heights Public School would like to say thank you to those parents and friends who have helped throughout the year.

Parents and friends have helped in many ways: such as parent assisted reading, helping in the classroom,

volunteering in the canteen, covering library books, attending excursions, organising book club, book fair,

co-ordinating the clothing pool, processing student banking and the list goes on.

The staff are putting on a morning tea and would like to invite all parents and friends who have assisted throughout 2015 to attend.

Date: Tuesday 1 December, 2015

Time: 11.15 - 12:00 in the staffroom

To assist with catering it would be appreciated if you could advise your child’s teacher if you will be attending.

Thank you all for your assistance throughout 2015

CHRISTMAS APPEAL In the tradition of Merewether Heights Public School’s end of year activities we are once again holding a Christmas Appeal of non-perishable food items. Each class will be given a box in which students can place food items that will then be donated to The Samaritans.

Suitable items include canned items, cereal, long-life milk, pasta, rice, soup, tea, coffee, children’s lunch box snacks, spreads (jam/vegemite) and pet food. Other items include toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and conditioner. As part of the Christmas Appeal this year, MHPS are also going to support the local Dog Rescue Newcastle group. Dog Rescue Newcastle area group of volunteers dedicated to the rescue of abandoned, neglected or abused companion animals. They rescue dogs and cats from local pounds and put them into loving foster homes until they can permanently rehomed. To support this self-funded group, please bring in donations of puppy, dog and cat food, flea and worm treatments, kennels, beds, blankets, leads, collars, harnesses, toys etc. It would be wonderful if each family could donate on or two items to those less fortunate. 3N NEWCASTLE JETS VISIT

3N were the lucky winners of a ‘Jets: Learn Squad’ competition. To enter the competition we had to decorate our school gate with a reference to The Greater, Newcastle Jets and NXFM. On Monday 9th November, we received an exciting visit from Leonardo, Josh Barresi and Milos Trifunovic who play for the Newcastle Jets A-League. After a quick warm-up, students participated in three different rotations, practising passing, shooting, heading and running with the ball. We then finished with a soccer game with the boys. At the end of the session students received a goody bag on behalf of The Greater and there was an opportunity for a group photograph and autographs to all of the students. 3N had a fabulous time and wrote some excellent recounts of their training sessions.
